Well done, Tom Hitchcock. A goal on your debut. It is common knowledge that I like to see youngsters given a chance. Hopefully the lad will be a starter next week. Can't even find him on team part of the offish. If Zamora is picked in preference to Hitchcock next week it will be a travesty of justice.

Quite agree done more in ten minutes than what Zamora did all game, great to see one of youngsters not only getting on the pitch but scoring the winning goal well done Tom.

Comments Email Print The Blues more than played their part in an enthralling first half in which both sides had superb chances to open the scoring. It was one-way traffic after the break though as twice the hosts hit the face of the crossbar – Charlie Austin’s attempt against the woodwork a real sitter. Town looked like they might have ridden their luck, only for sub Hitchcock – on loan at Bristol Rovers last season – to tap home after Austin had miscued Shaun Wright-Phillips’ low cross. QPR’s side may have included four England-capped players, but Ipswich made it clear early on that their game plan was not simply to park the bus at the home of the promotion-favourites. Ipswich were enjoying some good possession early on and had the hosts sweating during a period of pressure just after the 15 minute mark. First, David McGoldrick went close with an improvised attempt from a low Aaron Cresswell cross, while moments later Daryl Murphy fired over from long-range following a powerful run. QPR finally began to come to life around the half hour mark, with three excellent openings created in the space of just two minutes. After Richard Dunne had headed down Joey Barton’s corner, Shaun Wright-Phillips’ well-hit drive appeared destined for the back of the net. However, it took a deflection on its way through a crowd of players and was diverted over. Moments later, Tommy Smith produced a superb last-ditch tackle on Charlie Austin in the box as he attempted to get on the end of a Junor Hoilett cross. And the frantic spell continued when Scott Loach made a smart stop from Austin at the end of the very next attack, Danny Simpson’s cross having been perfectly-weighted. Having ridden the storm thanks to some good organisation and bravery, Town decided that the best form of defence was attack. It took a superb save from Rob Green in the 36th minute to keep the game goalless, the former Norwich keeper diving to his left and turning Daryl Murphy’s well-placed side-foot effort from eight-yards around the post. The ball had broken to him after Dunne and McGoldrick had challenged for Cresswell’s low cross at the near post. It then became an end-to-end finish to an enthralling half as Bobby Zamora fired over under pressure following Hoilett’s cut-back and Elliott Hewitt fizzed a low cross across the face of goal. Amazingly, the half-time whistle sounded with the game still goalless. Town offered very little going forward after the restart and, as the match wore on, they dropped deeper and deeper inviting pressure. Barton’s in-swinging corner was clawed out from under the bar by Loach on the hour mark. Two minutes later an unmarked Clint Hill met a superb free-kick delivery from Barton at the near post, but his header flew back off the face of the bar, Dunne firing the rebound into the side-netting. It was beginning to look like it might be Ipswich’s afternoon when Austin missed a gilt-edged chance in the 78th minute, the striker having plenty of time to steady himself after Chambers’ slip, but smashing a shot from 10 yards out against the face of the bar. Good to see we got a win from this and happy for Hitchcock getting a goal in his first appearance. Hopefully he gets another opportunity with this team, I didn't get to see or hear the game, but it sounds like he did well all around.

Hitchcock is the son of former Chelsea goalkeeper Kevin Hitchcock.[1] While attending Kingshott School in Hitchin, he was a member of the Watford F.C. academy along with classmate Ben Nugent, combining his studies and appearances for the school's first XI with his Academy commitments. When his father was appointed as goalkeeping coach at Blackburn Rovers F.C. as part of Mark Hughes' coaching team in 2004, Hitchcock and his family moved north and Tom transferred to the Blackburn youth teams. Football career[edit source] Hitchcock progressed through the youth system at Rovers academy after officially joining in 2007, after his original recommendation by his father, who was then goalkeeping coach at the club. He made his break into the Rovers reserve team in 2009, scoring his first goal that year.[2] He progressed into a team which already contained the future England centre-back Phil Jones. Hitchcock wins it for Rangers Young striker Tom Hitchcock scored a last-minute winner on his QPR debut to decide a dramatic 1-0 victory over Ipswich at Loftus Road.
Substitute Hitchcock tapped into an empty net after Charlie Austin's effort had been parried by Ipswich goalkeeper Scott Loach.
Harry Redknapp's side had already hit the bar twice, first through Clint Hill and then Austin, before the 20-year-old son of QPR goalkeeping coach Kevin Hitchcock struck.
However, Rangers will be concerned about Junior Hoilett - a reported transfer target for Stoke - after he limped off with what looked like a hamstring injury seven minutes into the second half.
But the result maintains their encouraging start to life in the Sky Bet Championship following last season's relegation from the top flight.
They enjoyed a decent spell of pressure midway through the first half, during which Shaun Wright-Phillips' deflected shot went narrowly over and Nedum Onuoha missed the target with a header.
Austin, making his full home debut for the Rs, was twice denied a goal in the space of a couple of minutes.
Hoilett found space on the left and picked out the former Burnley forward, whose first-time effort was blocked by Town defender Tommy Smith.
Then, Austin's shot from Danny Simpson's right-wing cross was well saved by Loach.
But Ipswich, who had won on four of their previous seven visits to Shepherd's Bush, had the best opportunity to go ahead before the break.
Jay Tabb sent in a cross in from the left and, after centre-back Richard Dunne challenged David McGoldrick, the loose ball fell to Daryl Murphy, whose weak attempt from eight yards out was tipped away by keeper Robert Green.
The loss of Hoilett was a blow for Rangers but they continued to press and almost went ahead shortly after the hour mark.
Joey Barton's free-kick from the right was headed against the frame of the goal by Hill, with Dunne unable to force home the rebound.
Hill twice headed over before Austin then squandered a golden chance to break the deadlock after beating the offside trap to collect Wright-Phillips' ball into the box with 13 minutes remaining.
Unmarked and with only Loach to beat, Austin opted for power and sent a ferocious shot against the underside of the bar when it seemed easier to score.
Austin was handed another chance following more good work from Wright-Phillips and was unable to beat the excellent Loach from close range - but this time Hitchcock was on hand to add the decisive touch. espnsoccernet

Last time I saw Hitchu play was in one of the streamed EDS friendlies a few weeks back, he scored a hattrick with the first goal being an overhead bicycle kick.

Couldn't go today as I travelled to Ireland today but very pleased to see we found a way to win...that's what promotion bound teams do and even if Hitchcock doesnt become a regular he can say he won QPR 3 points today.

Yeah, but even if Zamora starts, we can still give the kid half-an-hour as a sub, so he can get a run in, without being under too much pressure. I would be glad to see Mo Shariff coming on as a sub as well...

Don't destroy the kid with unrealistic expectations. He made an 8 min sub appearance and the ball fell to him. All he did was not fluff his chance. It's Encouraging that he did well but we hit the woodwork 3 times before he came on so hardly cause to rave about him in my opinion. That approach will ruin him so a few 30 min sub appearances would be better for him and us.
