My wife got a book from the library yesterday that I'm reading. In it a couple's first date is for her to take him to the Bush to see Rangers losing to Arsenal. To his question of why a girl from Oslo should support Rangers rather than Arsenal she replied "because they need me".
Now, I'm sure that this is part of the reason a lot of us chose Queens Park Rangers as our club (obviously if you were born into a Rangers family that is a different matter). Other reasons being not to be fashionable, to be part of a select number rather than a big institution etc.
The question is - Do the club feel that they still need us or that we still need them?
I would argue that the Queens Park Rangers of previous decades were a far easier club to come to love than is currently the case. What possible reason (other than promotion to the Premier) has there been for anyone to be attracted to our club since the gun in the boardroom incident?
Did we not go top of the Championship that day & then left the ground to the news that the relationship between supporters, players & club officials had just ended?
The togetherness that had been created over the previous three seasons had ended abruptly & has not come close to returning since then. Not even winning the Championship could achieve that due to the three stooges being in control.
I don't want a period of prolonged adversity to be attached to the club, but I feel this is what will be required if we are to ever become one again.
