This meaningless pre-match ritual should be scrapped altogether. Shaking hands before a ball's been kicked, should only ever be the team captains after it's been decided on the toss of a coin, which end they'll be defending/attacking.

In less than 30 mins I will be on my way to the Bush.
I didn't think it was possible to feel as strongly about todays game as I felt about it last year. I was wrong, I am more bitter about that lot than ever in my life.
The only reaction to the handshake is to let the Premier League know our feelings by booing the entire time the mascarade is taking place.

Why do players bother geeing up before a game when they then have to shake hands with the players you're trying to beat? VERY PC, but very daft. Terry very much so.

At the risk of being roasted by the message board I for one am fed up with this handshake debate crap!!! Its all that will be talked about before the match & is all that will be in the match reports which takes the success away from the team's performance against a supposed top three team in the Prem!!! I'm not even disagreeing that Terry scum didn't call Anton what he called him!!! He did but I actually don't think Terry is racist but just a thick as shit man chav with a family full of scum & plays for the ultimate scum team!!!...........However surely we can't be surprised that he got off on a technical issue in court with a W*nker of a rich lawyer backed by the Russian Mafia!! Or even believe that the FA will do anything to WOY England Managers Bum Boy!!!..............We all know what type of a scumbag Terry is!! He was before his abuse to Anton & always will be!!!.............And we aren't the only ones who know it either!!!...............Time to move on I think we are better than anything that comes out of Chelsea's direction & are at least human beings unlike there players, fans or anyone linked with that club!!!

Its not up to us to tell Anton to move on ! He was racially abused, if he wants to prove a point by not shaking that horrible C***s hand then fair play to him. Anton will probably never shake his hand again whether he's playing for us or not.His brother may well refuse to shake Terry's hand too.Again thats a personal decision ...

From Daily Mail online. Well done for supporting Anton, Park Players gang up on Terry: Park joins Ferdinand race protest by snubbing Chelsea captain By ANDREW WARSHAW PUBLISHED: 14:00 GMT, 15 September 2012 | UPDATED: 21:40 GMT, 15 September 2012 John Terry was on the receiving end of a humiliating double snub on Saturday as the festering atmosphere over the claim that he racially abused QPR defender Anton Ferdinand threatened to come to the boil all over again. Terry was cleared of the offence at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in July but still faces a Football Association charge over allegations that have hung over the 31-year-old Chelsea skipper since the two clubs met in October. On Saturday at Loftus Road, they faced each other for the first time in the Premier League since that day - and Terry found himself doubly embarrassed when he was snubbed in the pre-match handshake by both Ferdinand and, unexpectedly, QPR captain Ji-sung Park. Ashley Cole, who testified for Terry at his trial, was also blanked by Ferdinand. England full-back Cole immediately turned away from his opponent and spat. Moments later, Park pointedly ignored Terry again as the pair gathered in the centre circle to toss a coin for choice of ends. The South Korean, who joined QPR from Manchester United four days before Terry was acquitted, acknowledged the match officials but not his opposing captain. No explanation was given by QPR for Park’s behaviour but he played alongside Ferdinand’s brother, Rio, for seven years at Old Trafford and is known to be a close friend of United defender Patrice Evra, who was the victim of racial abuse from Luis Suarez, for which the Liverpool forward, who denied the charge, was banned for eight matches. QPR manager Mark Hughes, who had told his players it was up to them if they took part in the pre-match handshake, insisted that he had no warning of Park’s intentions. Hughes said: ‘The players had a discussion and I was made aware that some of them were prepared to shake and some weren’t. I didn’t know which individuals were involved. It was a personal choice of each of them.’ The debacle was watched by FA chairman David Bernstein, whose organisation has called Terry before an independent disciplinary tribunal, expected to be held on September 24, to answer a charge of abuse, which he vehemently denies. But if Bernstein hoped to see a rapprochement a year after the original incident, he must have been sorely disappointed. As the simmering dispute escalated, off the field the two sets of fans - urged beforehand to show restraint - hurled a succession of insults at the players involved. Although both sides played the goalless game in a generally fair spirit, it will be remembered more for the lack of a handshake than the lack of a goal. The tension throughout an uninspiring derby that ended Chelsea’s 100 per cent record this season was palpable. Terry did his best to set the standard by posing with the Rangers mascots but his every touch was booed except for when he pulled up with 20 minutes to go, when Rangers fans roared their approval. Hughes wants the pre-match handshake scrapped, even though it is condoned by the Premier League. ‘I’ve got the utmost respect for the Respect campaign,’ said Hughes. ‘But this element of it causes more problems than it solves.’ Ferdinand and Terry were two of the best performers on the pitch but at the final whistle they stayed clear of each other. A year ago, Chelsea ended the corresponding fixture with nine men as well as a 1-0 defeat. Manager Roberto Di Matteo, not in charge then, was keen to play down any festering resentment. ‘We offered (to shake hands) and have done our part. If other people feel differently, that’s their problem,’ he said.

Well we get the whole Premiership package down here, which includes most games, and the panel discussions before, during and after the games. In yesterday's one we had Gordon Strachan, Andy Townshend and Don Hutchinson and they were all going on about how Anton Ferdinand should be a man, accept that football is bigger than taht and shakes Terry's hand.
Well good for you guys - as usual none of them bothered to ask why we have this tradition of shaking hands before a game, only introduced 4 plus years ago mind you, as it is so mindless and pointless. More importantly nobody bothered to ask why Anton should shake those tossers hands - I mean they mentioned about the controversy last year but never actually mentioned the story behind it and at no stage did they ever mention that Terry to this date is yet to apologise for what he said that day.
Oh no it was all Naughty Mr Ferdinands fault for "not being man enough". What utter crap.
Move on takes more than one party to move on - Terry clearly hasn't yet.
Finally for the love of God please, remove Strachan from that panel whenever QPR are on TV - that pillock has yet to say a good word about the team. With him its always something negative about QPR.

Just to make sure everyone is aware I'm not saying that Anton himself shouldn't decide who he shakes hands with & I maintain that Terry is a 100% c**t always has been & always will be I just think that it was obvious that Terry was going to walk away not guilty from court, its obvious that the FA will bottle it & he will not be found guilty. Its also obvious that Woy England man will continue to let him play for England. It also obvious Terry & all linked with him are complete scumbags!!!! But the handshake build up & after match reporting is a hell of a distraction from what was such a great point gained by us against Chelski!!! I repeat I despise John Terry & how he behaved & how he continues to behave!!!

Strachen was a dirty bastard on a football pitch at best so he can go stuff himself. A Loser as a manager too!

Doesn't sound like Park. I saw that they didn't (repeatedly) shake hands in the center, but I thought maybe that was just coz they already did before (?)

Regarding the support thing, it looks kind of silly if Park supports Anton, Zamora says he likes Terry, and Bosingwa gives a big hug at the end.
It's kid's playground stuff.
Should players go through the starting list before the match and mark the 'unshakeable' opponents that they find annoying and don't really respect?

Of course, as many of you appear to agree, the pre match handshake is pointless & has nothing to do with respect.
This is a ritual that is carried out with most players not even looking at or knowing who they are shaking hands with. My believe is that the main reason for it's existence is to prominently display the sponsors name on the boards behind the players.
I would rather be labelled as "unsporting" in opting not to shake the hand of someone I dispised that to be guilty of hypocrisy (sp) just to appease others.
