Sorry for the non QPR post. Just wondering if anyone could help me on what a reasonable hourly rate is for plumbers? Got a leak I didn't know about and it's leaked into the neighbour's flat below. Can't see any quotes below about £80 an hour and that almost doubles after 6pm/weekends. I don't know anyone local/independent plumbers so reckon that's just the big companies online. Any help welcomed!

Probably £35 an hour and possibly a call out fee on top.

You should at least have a go at establishing what's leaking and where first (water pipe? failed sealant around a sink/bath/shower? central heating system? waste/drain pipe?) Doing the above will at least show a plumber you are not a total amateur ripe for having over and people on here can probably give you a hint about what you could do yourself..... it could be a easy as tightening a nut on a compression joint or squirting some sealant into a gap.

True - I've been trying to isolate it and am only calling someone cos I can't work it out myself. It's an overflow from a semi-open end of a waste pipe (the end my washing machine pipe drains into) - I noticed that it was overflowing when the washing machine was running. At the same time, the sink stopped draining properly and water overflows from the same end when I tried to plunger it. Makes me think that it's a blockage further down the pipe. Have disconnected and cleaned what I can and flushed through pipe-unblocker solution but can't work it out. I'd try more things if I had the time but the neighbours are going spare over it.

Hair.
Thats what it is.
Maybe in the downstairs area of the waste pipe, if its a shared pipe with your neighbours.

Had a problem myself recently. Blockage caused by liquid soap solidifying in the u-bend. My plumber suggested it is a good idea to run the hot water for a minute after emptying the hand basin when you have used liquid soap.

Good stuff. I have no idae how etiquette works in flats but it does seem blockage may well be outwith your property - Imagine the schadenfreud if it's you're drowning neighbour's hair causing the problem!? If you've poked/prodded as far as you can then maybe it's time for a plumber but, as I say, I have no idea how you work out who's "problem" it is....
