Congratulations to Tommy Doherty for making League Two Team
PFA - League One
The PFA present the League One team of 2008/09 season…
Joe Murphy – Sc**thorpe United
The former Republic of Ireland Under 21 international has been a rock all season for Sc**thorpe as they aim to bounce straight back into the Championship. It looked as though the shot-stopper was on his way from Glanford Park after s summer of speculation but he is still the best goalkeeper in League One and is looking forward to the play-offs with the Iron.
Neal Eardley – Oldham Athletic
The Wales international has enjoyed another impressive season at full back as Oldham have pushed for the play-offs all season. Eardley has already made over 120 appearances for the Latics and made his debut as a 16-year-old full back in 2005.
Jack Hobbs – Leicester City
The 20-year-old has been such a hit at the Walkers Stadium this season that manager Nigel Pearson is reportedly trying to tie up the on-loan Liverpool star on a permanent basis. Hobbs has played over 40 games for the Foxes and been an integral part of their quest for promotion back to the Championship.
Sean O’Hanlon – MK Dons
This no-nonsense centre-half has been one of the main reasons behind MK Dons’ attempt to win consecutive promotions. O’Hanlon was signed by Martin Allen for £175,000 from Swindon back in 2006 and has made over 100 appearances for the Dons. The former England Under 20 international is a real powerhouse and is a centre forward’s nightmare.
Dean Lewington – MK Dons
Lewington was named n the League Two divisional side last year and he has achieved the same feat this year after another storming campaign. The 24-year-old is MK Dons’ longest-serving player and captain and has made over 250 appearances for the club, becoming a fans’ favourite in the process.
Fabian Delph – Leeds United
The 19-year-old starlet has made a huge impact with Leeds this season and broken into the England Under 21 squad after catching Stuart Pearce’s eye. Delph has already been crowned the Young Player of the Year in the Football League awards and has reportedly been attracting the attention of both Newcastle and Arsenal.
Matt Oakley – Leicester City
The 31-year-old midfielder has been a rock in Leicester’s engine room and helped the Foxes set a new club record unbeaten run this season. Oakley has chipped in with crucial goals and been a pivotal player in Leicester’s title charge.
Chris Taylor – Oldham Athletic
Joe Royle will be happy that one of his brightest young talents has signed a new contract until 2012 as Oldham look to recreate the glory days under Royle. Taylor has already reached double figures for the season from a wide role and insists he wants to stay at Boundary Park for the foreseeable future.
George Boyd – Peterborough United
Boyd’s career goes from strength to strength after only linking up with Posh from non-league Stevenage in January 2007 for £260,000. He was part of the League Two divisional side last year as Peterborough were promoted and is hoping to complete the same double this year as Posh look for a return to the Championship.
Rickie Lambert – Bristol Rovers
The powerful striker joined Bristol Rovers in 2006 from Rochdale and has bagged over half a century of goals for the Pirates in the three seasons since, including 25 league goals this term. The 27-year-old is the subject of constant speculation but gets on with the job in hand and scores on a regular basis.
Matty Fryatt – Leicester City
It has been a season to remember for Fryatt as his goals have helped fire Leicester to promotion and break records along the way. He became the first Leicester player to score 20 goals before Christmas in 42 years and the first in 83 years to hit hat-tricks in successive matches. His partnership with Steve Howard has proved very problematic for defenders.

League Two PFA Team of the Year 2008/09
The PFA present the League Two team of 2008/09 season…
Scott Shearer – Wycombe Wanderers
After an injury-ravaged campaign last year, Shearer has bounced back to claim his place in the divisional team of the year. The 28-year-old has recovered from knee ligament damage to establish himself as Wycombe’s number one as part of one of the meanest defences in the country.
Neil Austin - Darlington
Austin will be celebrating his 26th birthday in style tonight after an impressive season at full back for the Quakers. It has been difficult for the club after being deducted ten points for falling into administration but Austin has been impressive despite the off-field problems.
Simon King – Gillingham
A £200,000 signing from Barnet back in 2007, King has been a tower of strength for Gillingham this season as they have launched an assault on promotion. King has previously won the Conference with Barnet and is now making his mark in the Football League.
David McCracken – Wycombe Wanderers
McCracken formed a mean defensive partnership with Mike Williamson, who has since moved on to Watford, during the first half of the campaign. McCracken is an uncompromising centre half and arrived at Adams Park in the summer of 2007 with former boss Paul Lambert but is now part of the furniture in Buckinghamshire.
Thomas Kennedy – Rochdale
Thomas is following in the footsteps of his Uncle Alan as a left back of some repute and a dead shot from the penalty spot. Kennedy’s uncle was a Liverpool stalwart and Thomas is hoping for success of his own with Rochdale this season as they bid to go one step further after last year’s Wembley play-off loss to Stockport.
Omar Daley – Bradford City
Daley has a half century of caps for Jamaica and is using that experience to good effect for Bradford this season. However, a knee injury has ruled Daley out of action until December 2009 but such was his impact up to his injury in February that he made the divisional team.
Dany N’Guessan – Lincoln City
The skilful French winger has been a huge hit at Sincil Bank since his arrival from Glasgow Rangers in 2007 and has tormented defenders this season. N’Guessan is a product of the famous Auxerre Academy and has kept the Imps on the fringes of the play-offs with his magic.
Ben Davies – Shrewsbury Town
Captain Marvel Davies has been the shining light of consistency for Shrewsbury this season and notched well over ten goals already this term. The 27-year-old has driven the Shrews on this season from the engine room and is the fans’ favourite in Shropshire will be hoping to confirm a play-off place for Paul Simpson’s side by the end of the campaign.
Tommy Doherty – Wycombe Wanderers
Doherty is treading on familiar ground after being named in the 2006-07 League Two divisional team of the year. The feisty midfielder has been sent off twice this year but his tigerish performances have given Wycombe a real chance of lifting the League Two title.
Andy Bishop – Bury
Bishop has formed a fearsome partnership with Andy Morrell as Bury have confounded the critics to launch a promotion assault. Bishop was the first Bury player to score over 20 goals for 13 years when broke the record in 2007 and he has carried on with his rich vein of form ever since as the Shakers threaten to upset the applecart at the summit of League Two.
Grant Holt – Shrewsbury Town
Holt was Shrewsbury’s club record signing this summer for a fee of £175,000 but he has lived up to expectations. The former Rochdale and Nottingham forest striker has already bagged 27 goals and will be hoping for a double celebration of Shrewsbury reaching the play-offs and personally smashing through the 30-goal barrier.
