QPR land Bosingwa Former Chelsea defender joins Loftus Road outfit Last Updated: August 17, 2012 8:25am
0 0 Jose Bosingwa: Former Chelsea defender heading to QPR Sky Bet
Q.P.R.'s Next Match Q.P.R. 11/10 Draw 12/5 Swansea 11/5 Premier League Group D Betting 12/13 £10 Free Bet Sky Sports sources understand that Queens Park Rangers have signed former Chelsea defender Jose Bosingwa.
The Portugal international right-back saw his four-year spell at Stamford Bridge come to an end in the summer when he was not offered an extension to his contract.
The 29-year-old, who signed from Porto for £16million in May 2008, made 43 appearances for the Blues last term and started both the FA Cup final success against Liverpool and the UEFA Champions League triumph over Bayern Munich. He was deemed surplus to requirements as Roberto di Matteo looked to re-shape his squad but has not had to wait long to secure his Premier League future.
Loftus Road boss Mark Hughes, backed by the finances of owner Tony Fernandes, has handed a deal to Bosingwa

Champagne!
Of course, he couldn't stop the mighty SWP, but maybe that was a one-off.

Are we the best-dealing free-transfering club?

We've spent less this whole transfer window than Sunderland bid for Steven Fletcher ;D ;D ;D
We're signing a player who played every minute of last seasons FA and Champions League finals

Are we the best-dealing free-transfering club? I guess we'll find out in May but in terms of quality we've really stepped up a notch. Lets hope with all the changes they can gel quickly.

To be honest don't really know anything re Botswinga - beyond what I've just been reading/researching..But if he's been good enough for Chelsea for the last few years, that (HATE to say it!) is quite a testimonial.

His (out of date) profile on Portugoal.net www.portugoal.net/index.php/player-profiles/119-players-a-c/109-player-profile-jose-bosingwaPlayer Profile: Jose Bosingwa Full name: Jose Bosingwa da Silva Position: Defender Date of Birth: 24 August 1982 Birthplace: Kinshasa, DR Congo Watching Jose Bosingwa motoring tirelessly up and down the right flank, defending astutely and attacking menacingly, has become a spectacle within a spectacle at FC Porto’s matches over recent seasons. And at just 24 years of age Bosingwa has a collection of silverware that rivals many of Portugal’s better known players. Born in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, his family moved to Seia in central Portugal while Jose was still a young boy. Playing for local side, Fornos de Algodres, Bosingwa’s skills started to develop. He proved to be ahead of his class and was promptly recruited to join Boavista’s youth academy to further his football education. Bosingwa quickly became one of the club’s brightest prospects and turned professional in 2000 at 18 years of age. After being loaned out briefly to neighbouring club, Freamunde, the player was recalled by Boavista where he stayed for two seasons making 41 appearances in the Portuguese top flight. Utility man His versatility – he was used as a right-back, winger and defensive midfielder by the then coach, Jaime Pacheco – and impressive performances caught the attention of city rivals, FC Porto, and the player was transferred to the Portuguese giants in the summer of 2003. It was here that the young boy born in the heart of Africa began to get a taste for winner’s medals. Under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho, Bosingwa contributed with a total of 13 appearances during Porto’s memorable 2003/04 season which saw them lift the Portuguese championship and the Champions League title. Car accident tragedy But it was not all peaches and cream for the young right-back as tragedy struck that same year. Bosingwa was at the wheel of his jeep when excess speed and wet road conditions led to a serious accident, with the vehicle skidding off the motorway and rolling down an embankment before bursting into flames. The Porto defender was transporting four other professional footballers as passengers. All escaped alive but one of them, Sandro Luis, had to have his left foot amputated as a result of the accident. As well as having to live with a heavy conscience, Bosingwa’s recklessness fell out of favour with the club where he spent most of the season serving an internally imposed suspension. The following season Bosingwa got back into the headlines for all the right reasons, reclaiming his spot in the starting XI under Dutch coach, Co Adriaanse, as FC Porto won the domestic double. Coming of age However, it was in 2006/07 that Bosingwa truly came of age as his seemingly endless well of energy patrolling the right-hand flank the whole length of the pitch proved a major factor behind’s Porto’s retention of the Portuguese championship. His magnificent season’s cake received the proverbial cherry topping when he earned his first call-up to the senior Portugal squad just days after Porto had lifted the title. Chelsea move Another solid season in 2007/08 saw Bosingwa win another championship medal and become the undisputed Portugal right-back and one of Porto’s hottest properties. It was little surprise therefore when Chelsea splashed out over 20m euros to take the right-back to Stamford Bridge and allowed Bosingwa to “realise a dream I have always had of playing in the Premier League.” by Marco Pereira & Tom Kundert (last updated 13/02/2009) Club Appearances* Goals Freamunde 11 0 Boavista 41 0 FC Porto 107 3 Chelsea** 25 2 PORTUGAL 16 0 * League appearances only ** Up to February 2009

It's a tad strange that an international footballer that cost £16 mill four years ago is available on a free with few takers....
Having said that, he's looked pretty decent whenever I've seen him, with one glaring exception, so is certainly an upgrade and explains Young not getting a squad number.

He has great pace, very good going forward and can fill in at a few positions but his defending can let him down...saying all that he is several grades better than Young (who I like).

First half of last season would show Young in a similar mode, good going forward, constantly out of position at the back. Eyebrow is certainly a far better player. He'll speak Spanish so Faurlin can finally chat with someone! ;D

Good purchase and lets hope Onouha can now step up as a central defender alongside Anton. We also have Clint and Nelsen to be called upon as different types of stoppers and depending on who the opposition is. Maybe we wont need that expensive Central Defender after all !!

Quality signing i remember when the news of him being released come out the so called experts (ON SKY) were saying how the likes of manure and barca would be foolish not to consider him. At that time i thought he'd be a great signing for us but guessed he'd be looking elsewhere well done to the club for getting a player of his class signed on

Telegraph saying he's signed too (so far its only been sky) QPR sign Jose Bosingwa QPR have signed former Chelsea right-back Jose Bosingwa on a free transfer. He joined Chelsea for around £16 million four years ago and went on to win the Champions League, Premier League, three FA Cups and the Community Shield. He had previously been part of Porto's 2004 Champions League squad. Despite being so highly-decorated, the 29 year-old came under fire for his defending throughout his Stamford Bridge career and eventually struggled to hold down a regular place in the side. He did manage to go out on a high, helping successfully shackle Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery in the Champions League final. I remember him watching with my jaw dropped during (I think) 2008 Euros - he was THAT good - and texting my friend, asking why isn't any of the big clubs after him. To my disgust, of course, he replied that Chelsea have already got him

Wikipedia says that he retired from Portugal duties because of the current coach, Paulo Bento, who claimed Bosingwa was "mentally unstable". No disagreements there, I suppose.
