Joey Barton in shock move to Fleetwood www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/sport/joey-barton-in-shock-move-to-fleetwood-1-4767098Published on Monday 23 July 2012 18:25 JOEY BARTON, one of the most controversial characters in football, is to train with Fleetwood Town. In a sensational move which will rock football, ambitious Fleetwood have received permission from Queens Park Rangers for him to train with the Highbury club. And there is a chance of loan move from QPR to Fleetwood, possibly until January, though manager Micky Mellon refused to comment on this. Barton will join up with his Fleetwood on Thursday, prior to travelling to Scotland when he will spend a week with the Town squad. Barton is friends with a number of players in the Fleetwood squad and when the player suggested that he would be prepared to train with Town, Mellon moved in quickly and made official contact with Rangers. After incidents on the final day of last season Barton was banned for 12 matches after being found guilty of two counts of violent conduct. Barton, 29, was sent off in QPR’s defeat at Manchester City on the final day of the season and accepted a charge over his clash with Sergio Aguero in the wake of his red card. He was also found guilty over a separate clash with City’s Vincent Kompany.

Just saw the headline and thought this couldn't be true, but the body copy seems to back it up. Very strange indeed.

Being reported by the Mirror now (not sure if that makes it more credible or not)
Barton bombshell! Bad-boy is joining League Two side Fleetwood Town (report)
Banned QPR midfielder has been given permission to train with the Lancashire side, sparking speculation of a loan move
Tweetwood Town? Barton is reportedly on his way Getty Headline-magnet Joey Barton is joining League Two's Fleetwood Town, according to a report.
The controversial QPR midfielder, who is banned for the first 12 matches of the coming season after being sent off in the final match of the last campaign, will train with the Lancashire side and there is speculation a loan move could follow, the story continues.
Barton got his marching orders at Eastlands in May when he first elbowed City's Carlos Tevez, then kneed Sergio Aguero and then aimed a headbutt at Vincent Kompany before squaring up to Mario Balotelli as he left the pitch.
The FA responded with the lengthy ban, which means he will not be able to play again until the autumn.
Dirty dozen: Barton's dismissal saw the FA throw the book at him Getty Last month, Barton was arrested after a fight outside a Liverpool nightclub but the authorities have decided to take no further action.
Barton has been linked with loan moves to Championship sides Blackburn and Sheffield Wednesday this summer.
Fleetwood are new to the Football League, after winning the Conference title last season.

I can't see how going out on loan to Fleetwood can be seen as adequate preparation for a Premiership player.
I reckon Maudes is spot on in this instance and by the club allowing this I reckon they don't really care about him anymore and definitely don't see him as part of the team in the second half of the season.
If he's going out on loan it should be a Championship team, at least he might get a few games under his belt at a decent standard before he returns.
QPR paying him tens of thousands of pounds every week to play in League 2 takes the piss out of all of us.
This must surely signal the end of Barton at QPR.

I hope he takes it seriously, and tries to come back fit. I, personally, would like to see a fit, chastened Joey Barton back at QPR ready to fight (figuratively) for his place. That would benefit both player and club.
As Betfair Poker tweeted, "I feel quite sorry for Joey Barton. The only thing he's really guilty of is a number of criminal offences."

barton is laughing his bollox off at us lot, and the club.
i dont think for one moment that his remark about INTENDING to be with the club for another 3 years is confirmation of his loyalty to QPR , its more a wind up to those who want him gone.
its how his head works.

If we intend to keep him, how is this good for us? Morale boost? Because I can't see how he will stay as fit as he should there compared to with us and training under Hughes???

Blackpool Gazette Fleetwood slam Barton critics Queens Park Rangers' Joey Barton Wednesday 25 July 2012 13:44 FLEETWOOD Town manager Micky Mellon has hailed Joey Barton’s decision to join his team for training tomorrow as a “fantastic coup”. But the Town boss also took a side-swipe at those who have criticised the agreement, slamming their negativity. Barton, suspended for 12 matches after his latest bout of ill-discpline, has been given permission by his club Queens Park Rangers to train with Fleetwood, who embark on their historic first season in the Football League next month. The controversial former England midfielder will train with Fleetwood for a week and a loan move could follow, though there has been no official confirmation of this by Town. Mellon said: “What a fantastic coup it is for the football club that Joey will train with us. Can you name another Premier League footballer in the game who would train with a League Two club? I certainly couldn’t. That speaks highly of Joey. “It can only be a positive move for the club and I am sick of all the negativity that goes on in this country. “I have had press people ringing me up who probably don’t know anything about Fleetwood. They will write about Joey as though he is some kind of cross between Fred West and Diego Maradona. “I don’t see why people should look for the negatives all the time or why people try to denigrate us when we have players at the club who are Premier League-class, like Jon Parkin and Damien Johnson. “This is not some kind of circus or public relations exercise. “Joey is a fantastic footballer, in my opinion probably the best midfielder in England, and my players will learn a lot from him and his attitude to the game. “He will also get the benefits of training with my players. “It is a great compliment to this football club that Queens Park Rangers have agreed he can train with us.” Barton is no stranger to Fleetwood matches – he has attended several at Highbury and is a good pal of Town striker Andy Mangan. It was after talking it over with Mangan and other friends in the Fleetwood dressing-room that Mellon made his move to invite Barton to train. Mellon said: “Maybe people didn’t recognise him at our games because he was wearing a big hat!” Barton himself said he has agreed to link up with Fleetwood to help him “fall back in love with the game” and “become a better person”. He also suggested QPR are considering loaning him out at the start of the season, enabling him to serve his 12-match ban quicker. Writing on his website, Barton added that he had become disenchanted with football and needs a “reality check”. Barton said: “There’s been a lot of interest regarding me training with Fleetwood. It wasn’t something I was so bothered to talk about and I’m surprised by the level of interest, naive of me maybe. “The simple fact is that on top of my much-deserved punishment by the FA and then, of course, QPR, I’ve also been omitted from the senior QPR squad that are now out in Asia, which is, of course, even more gutting than the original punishment. “I respect that (manager) Mark Hughes makes his own decisions, of course, and fair play to him for doing what he believes is right. QPR want me to train with the young guys and the reserves in the meantime.
“The possibility of a loan move has been mentioned. There’s been interest from several European clubs and a lot of Championship clubs too, as you may expect.“I have become a little disenchanted with the game in the last six months, after what I have put myself through, and I desperately want to fall back in love with the game. I feel that training in the lower leagues will give me a reality check and maybe help me become a better person – a little more humility will serve me well. “The lower leagues is where the hunger for the game is at its greatest, at least where players are concerned. “I want to reignite that passion for the game, something that I ordinarily have an abundance of – no primadonnas, just pure, old school, mortgage/livelihoods on the line football. “It’ll help me appreciate all that the Premier League offers me now and in the future. What else can I do? “Work hard, fall back in love with the game and keep my fingers crossed that I can once again earn my place in a QPR shirt.” www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/sport/football/fleetwood-town/fleetwood-slam-barton-critics-1-4772758

I can't see FA tolerating this. How can you loan a player to a club when he's banned from actually playing for them??? It's clearly a wheeze to get his ban over with a month or so earlier than it ought to last by dint of fixtures in League Two coming along at a quicker rate.

I thought that we had covered this before, and that the ban stays in place for as long as the parent club needs to play the requisite matches. Unfortunately, I cannot locate the thread that had this rule in.

As reported by superckat way back when, from the FA disipline handbook:
Qualifying matches for a suspension can only be for the team whom the Player was playing for at the time they were sent off. If a Club operates a number of teams and is dismissed from one team, that Player is unable to participate until the team he/she were sent off for play the appropriate number of games relevant to the Players suspension. e.g. A Player is sent off playing for the First team, the Player is unable to play for the Reserves or any other team until the First team have played the number of qualifying matches that relates to the Players suspension.

Actually, I ahev changed my mind on this matter. The FA Handbook states:
PLAYERS MOVING BETWEEN CLUBS
Where a Player moves between Clubs at a time when he is subject to a suspension from playing resulting from either these Disciplinary Procedures or any charge of Misconduct, the following shall apply – (a) Until the Player moves, the suspension shall be served by reference to matches completed by the Club that the Player moves from;
(b) Where the Club that the player moves to competes at the same level as the Club that the player moves from, any remaining period of suspension at the time that the Player moves shall be served by reference to matches completed by the Club that the Player moves to;
(c) Where the Club that the player moves to competes at a dif erent level from the Club that the player moves from, any remaining period of suspension at the time that the Player moves shall continue to be served by reference to matches completed by the Club that the Player moves from.
For the purposes of this section, Clubs compete at three different levels. Each level is comprised as follows –
(i) The Premier League, Football League and Football Conference (National); (ii) The Football Conference (North and South Divisions), the Isthmian League, the Northern Premier League and the Southern League; (iii) Steps 5 to 7 of the National League System, or any other league outside of the National League System which operates a match-based disciplinary system.
This section applies to all moves by Players between Clubs which are completed and evidenced to the satisfaction of the Association, however they occur. This includes, but is not limited to, all transfers, loans and the expiration of loans, and Players whose registration is cancelled by the Club that the Player moves from, where that Player is subsequently registered by the Club that the Player moves to.
So, this isn't a loophole and is specifically legislated for.

Hopefully he will go on loan to fleetwood and be a targeted by lower league players wanting to make a name for themselves.
Barton will take the bait. Lash out. And boomshanka. We have grounds to rip up his contract
