QPR OFFICIAL SITE QPR AGREE NELSEN DEAL Posted on: Mon 18 Jun 2012 Queens Park Rangers Football Club can confirm it has reached agreement with defender Ryan Nelsen on an initial one-year deal. The 34 year-old's contract will commence on July 1st following the conclusion of his contract with Tottenham Hotspur. This is the second time Nelsen will have been signed by Mark Hughes, after the QPR Manager originally brought him to Blackburn Rovers in 2005. Nelsen, who has made more than 170 Premier League appearances and will Captain New Zealand at this summer's London Olympics, told http://www.qpr.co.uk: "I am really pleased to be joining QPR. "I have obviously got a lot of history with the Manager and that was a massive draw for me. "I like his winning attitude. He and all his staff just have an absolute desire to win, and that's what the Premier League is all about. "If you haven't got that, you won't be successful. "The owners have got fantastic ambition and it's exciting to become a part of that. There's a real buzz about the place and it is a privilege to be here. "I have got the Olympics coming up and that will be a good way for me to get prepared." Hughes added: "I am delighted to bring Ryan to the Club. I know what he is all about and what he can offer us, both on and off the pitch. "He hasn't played a lot of football in the past year or so but he is fit, raring to go, and looking forward to representing his country at the Olympics. "Ryan has got great experience in the Premier League and that is something our squad is lacking a little bit at present. "He's a fantastic professional with a great work ethic and it will benefit the younger lads in the group to see how he goes about his work." *An exclusive interview with Nelsen is available now on QPR Player www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~2812644,00.html IanJTaylor @ijtaylor81 NELSEN: 'The owners have got fantastic ambition - it's exciting to be part of that. As I said on the other thread, turns out I saw him play for DC United more than a decade ago. (To be honest I have absolutely no memory of how he played etc)

When you see leaving the club Borrowdale and Vine and others and a few months ago, Alberti and Pellicori...: Our squad is being strengthened...We don't have hundreds of millions of pounds. ..And we're not strong enough to be able to be sure of staying up...This is good.

A good start.
A damn sight better than Perone who was good enough for a place in the 25, but not experienced enough to face the mighty Fulham away....
Let's see what follows.

Is he the only national skipper we have in our squad?

I believe so. That is until Argentina recognise Ale Faurlin's brilliance ;D

I just knew talking about the hoops to him would work in the end. It took two years but.... Nah Andy, I must take credit here. He played for two of my old clubs, Christchurch United and the mighty Cashmere Wanderers and is the most famous old boy of my son's school, St Thomas's. He may be a little past his best but Sparky know what he wants in the squad and Ryan obviously fits the bill.

I was talking to him during the build up practices for the infamous Bahrain play off game.
