He was a complete and utter waste of space this afternoon. He can't pass and he can't tackle. Why is he playing?
The corner that he took that went out for a goal kick typified his performance for me. Appalling.
Hughes show us you've got balls and drop him.

I don't think he's TERRIBLE...Just not worth what we paid...I'd let him keep playing...But NO Corners. No Freekicks...Not as long as we have SWP or Taarabt or Buzsaky or couple of others on the field.

At one point in the 1st half he actually got out of the Fulham players way who was surging through our midfield....I can't remember disliking a rangers player this much

I don't agree with dropping Him as I thought Barton did maintain an effort level throughout the game and he will always try to win the ball back if he loses it or misplaces a pass. I agree that some of his dead ball deliveries are poor but I think Joeys big problem is he has a big reputation and he just doesn't live up to it on the pitch.
The problem I have with dropping him is who replaces him in that role?

I think the Newcastle Board must be chuckling that they found a sucker to take their problem off their hands.

be total madness to drop barton. well it wouldnt make any difference, we would still lose every game, but hes getting paid fortunes, might as well make him earn it. also hes a bit less crap than the rest of the crap in the squad.

I agree, thought he had a very poor game but dropping him is reactionary. For the way we're trying to play, we havn't got anyone better on the bench in my opinion. His positives were few and far between today but they are there - whereas as his negative attributes are far more obvious (i.e. his piss poor set pieces). But you take him off and the options are, most of the time, not as good. Derry is a don but he gets run ragged and great as he is can be a liability over 90 minutes if you are expecting him to anchor a midfield against some of the teams we have got coming up. You can replace him with Buzasky but again he is not likely to last 90 minutes and whilst he offers options going forward he lacks the steel in the midfield - he won't box in opponents and put the pressure on and force the opposition to delay attacks and passes like Barton does (a far less obvious strength of his). It's also difficult because his pass percentage is so poor because he is often trying stuff that can cause goals and put someone through. Stuff like that doesn't always work, but it's percentages. I'd rather Barton played 4 balls to the feet of the oppositions defence and have one put Zamora in on goal than Buzasky (who I rate) knocking the ball side to side.

But can we ALL agree: He doesn't need to take the corners/free kicks?
Anyone can take a bad corner...or have a game in which they take bad corners...But every corner in every game? - When there are far more promising to take those kicks?

be prepared for what comes out of his mouth at the end of the season, you'll wish he never came.
vile man, dont care if he plays like f**king pele, wish he would go know.
did you see him on more than one occasion berating adel for beating two players and shooting at goal? he's not a captain, he is not fit to wear that shirt with that piss poor attitude and the belief that he is above criticism.

He's just said on Twitter that he never backs down from a challenge and if it came down to us going down he wouldn't leave.

I always thought he would be a bad signing because of his bad boy image but I always thought he was a good player. Wrong on both accounts, apart from his big mouth he has behaved well on the pitch unlike some of his hot-headed colleagues, but he isn`t a good player i my opinion. Lots of energy and running around but no end product. I`m sure his ridiculous wages causes disruption amongst other players, though they`d never say so.
The most ineffective skipper since er well Adel Tarrabt - and that`s another story

He's just said on Twitter that he never backs down from a challenge and if it came down to us going down he wouldn't leave. I've resigned myself to the reality or relegation and am looking forward to Palace/Charlton etc next year - but the thought of Barton still playing for my team fills me with dread

Also tweeting that... Blah Blah Blah...
Joseph Barton @joey7barton
This is going to be a tough test, I was aware of that when I came to the club. No matter what I'll keep giving 100%. Its the only way I know

To be fair those were on occassions he and Mackie were in space to either side of Adel and he shot the ball tamely straight at the keeper for the second time. Like i've said before, I think Barton's been playing terrible and his attitude is awful but to act like one player with a terrible attitude is above criticism and the other shouldn't even wear the shirt is a bit odd.

i cant believe im saying this but give captaincy back to taraabt replace barton for buz and let buz take the set pieces.
after the set pieces buz took a few games ago where he scored a fantastic free kick and his corners were also fantastic and dangerous. buz is frustrating because he lets himself down at times but when you consider the amount of games buz has had to barton buz has been the better player by miles.
