I cannot believe some of the posts about lack of activity in the transfer market from Hughes. He has been in the post 5 minutes for God's sake. Transfers are a drawn out series of meetings with players, unfortunately Agents and probably wives/girlsfriends/mates too if the truth be told. These take time as anyone who has been involved in any negiation knows (Christ it took me 7 months to decide to spend £10k on a new kitchen)
I'm totally sure that NW had his targets for the Board to review and maybe those could have been further developed. But I hope that Hughes is his own man and brings in who he wants rather than who was on the Warnock January window radar. We know we have a window but surely we want the right players rather than the ones we can sign before next Saturday. If we buy the wrong players on the big wages and we get relegated then we're Donald Ducked.

Well I'm as guilty as anyone of these posts, its just the frustration, I'm still adimant Hughes said he'd get players in BEFORE newcastle. We all know we needed to. With it starting to look like we won't have anyone in by the wigan game now it is getting a little nervy. That will leave us with 1 week left to buy and possibly rock bottom of the table. IF a few names come in before wigan, there will be relief all round and hopefully that buzz will come back that we all felt when hughes first came in.

Well they've had two open weeks of window. And presumably they knew who they wanted before window opened. (Pre Hughes!)
Yes I agree re buying the right ones; rather than hurried.
And agree give time...Two more weeks of open window...But will be fair to judge when the window closes, based on who we signed/how much we spent

The trouble with signing players to early in the transfer window is you normally pay more than you would do on the last couple of days. Also their agents will try to get the players contracts for silly money. This is one of the reasons we are stuck with half a squad on more money than they are worth and cannot get rid of them. If you take our bidding for Samba for instance. Now Spurs or Arsenal may really want to sign him but they will just say something like they quite like him as a player and leave it at that for now. We do all the hard work putting in bids and Blackburn will just keep saying no and putting his valuation up. If Spurs want to sign Samba they will wait until the last couple of days of the transfer window and then try to nick him at the last minute unless they think we have bid over what he is worth.
If you needed a new car desperately and it was £12,000 but in two weeks time you could get it for £10.000 what would you do? You would try to make do with what you have got for the next 2 weeks. Not ideal but thats life. Anyway I think we may make a signing before today is over.

By which time we'll be cemented at the bottom of the table trying to make do with what we have and he won't even want to join us!! ;D
