I'd be surprised if now we bring in anyone into CM as a stop gap...Rowlands played for the reserve, Doughty could play as could Connolly (none of them perfect). I just don't see the value in bringing in someone for one game who'll then sit on the bench when Barton is back. If they bring someone now he'll be a fixture in the team at least until next season. Perhaps someone flippin' foreign #ironic cackle They wouldn't be a stop gap though they'd be a replacement for Faurlin. Otherwise it's just Barton and Derry for the rest of the season and I don't see both being available or always on form for the rest of the season.

But at Spurs, Samba would be fighting to play for a team which COULD win the Premiership Title or the FA Cup and have a very reasonable chance of playing in the European Cup (whatever it's called) next season... This is true, Mac. But Spurs have a reputation for buying players and then not always using them to the full and Samba's agent was kind of saying that yesterday. I don't actually think Samba is a great defender, not in the Vidic or Kompany (or even Terry to a lesser extent) mould. I wonder whether a lot of his pub is due to the fact that he's in such an awful team that he looks better than he is. Sometimes you surround a good but not great player with mediocre talent and it makes them look better than they really are. I wonder if Man Utd are discovering that with Ashley Young? For me, Samba is a great attacking defender and I think he'd be great for us, but I'm not sure he's necessarily a sure lock starter for a top 3 team. Spurs of course could offer him more, but, to me anyway, its a bit like Adam Johnson at Man City. He will win all the medals he wants at Citeh, but he'll never reach his full potential there because he will always be a rotation victim. Some players can handle that. Others prefer to chose somewhere they will play every week because that's what they want to do-play. This, incidentally, was always my knock on Solskjaer as a player. I genuinely thought he could have been so much more if he'd have gone to a team like Spurs at the time instead of being content to come off the bench every other week just so he could fill his mantelpiece with medals. I don't know which move he'll make, or even if Spurs really do want him. If we got Alex I'd be happy with him and Anton at CB. If they stay healthy that's a damn good central defensive pairing and Hughes can then re-address the situation in the summer.

Silly season has just well and truly slapped us in the face.
We are now favourites to sign Tevez with the bookies with odds of 11/10

Like I tweeted to you, the irony of getting Tevez to keep us up, when he helped knock our previous manager out of the PL is too much. It's a small world, and that pinch of salt I've just taken is repeating itself.

Tevez to Milan deal falls through - report Published 16:58 12/01/12 By MirrorFootball (11)Recommend . Carlos Tevez's proposed move to AC Milan looks to be off this evening after reports claimed the Serie A club had failed to reach agreement with Manchester City.
The Argentina striker was understood to be keen on moving to the Italian giants, but it appears they have been unable to meet City's demands, despite club vice-president Adriano Galliani travelling to England to lead negotiations.
The news comes on the same day Inter Milan gave up on signing Tevez, with club president Massimo Moratti saying he believed the striker was set to join rivals Milan.
When asked if Tevez will join AC Milan, Moratti said on the club's official website, http://www.inter.it: "I believe so.
"That's football."
Inter chief gives up Tevez chase
Tevez, who returned to his homeland in November without City's permission and is yet to report back to training, is under contract with the Blues until June 2014
this was at 5.00pm ?still looked like AC then

Alex says no to QPR - and life in England Published 22:31 12/01/12 By Martin Lipton
. Chelsea defender Alex has turned his back on a move to QPR – because he has had enough of English football.
New Rangers boss Mark Hughes made a £3million bid for the 29-year-old Brazilian, and was hoping to make him his first recruit since arriving at Loftus Road.
But not only have Chelsea dismissed the bid as being far from their valuation for the former PSV Eindhoven stopper, Alex has told club chiefs that he has no interest in staying in the Premier League.
Indeed, the defender is only interest in remaining in Europe if he can secure a big-money move to play for former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti at Paris Saint-Germain.
The alternative is a move back to Brazil, where another ex-Blues boss, Luiz Felipe Scolari, wants him at Palmeiras.
Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas said: “We have respected Alex’s transfer request, so the market’s open for him. We’ll listen to all offers.”

EXCLUSIVE: Hughes eyes Santa Cruz... again! Published 22:30 12/01/12 By Darren Lewis
. Mark Hughes is considering a cut-price move for Roque Santa Cruz from former club Manchester City.
The 30-year-old striker is currently on loan at Spain's Real Betis, where he has hit five goals in 20 appearances this season - including two in his last two.
Hughes signed Santa Cruz for Blackburn as well as for City, and also tried to get him during his time as Fulham boss.
The Paraguayan would have to take a wage cut to go to Rangers but City, who are paying some of his wages during his loan spell at Betis, would be happy to get him off their wage bill.

Inter favourites to sign Tevez after late twist Published 22:31 12/01/12 By David Maddock
Inter Milan are strong favourites to land Carlos Tevez, after a deal to take him to rivals AC Milan collapsed.
AC Milan officials swept out of a meeting at a London hotel after talks broke down over the transfer of the Manchester City striker.
Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani had travelled to the capital to meet City officials and Tevez’s agent Kia Joorabchian - along with lawyer Lorennzo Cantamessa and FIFA agent Giuseppe Riso - and thrash out an arrangement to end the player’s troubled time in Manchester.
Galliani had proposed a deal which would see the controversial Argentina striker move on loan until the end of the season, with a compulsory sale at the end of that period.
But even as discussions got underway, he learned that the sale of their Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato to Paris Saint-Germain had fallen through, denying them the funds to finance the Tevez deal.
Galliani immediately called a halt to talks, though he later insisted to Italian media that there was still a chance of resurrecting the transfer.
Inter though, have seized on the late opportunity, with sources at the club suggesting on Thursday night that they have reopened informal discussions with City.
The news came as a relief to Inter president Massimo Moratti, who had earlier voiced his dismay that his club's arch-rivals Milan appeared to have stolen a march by entering into formal talks.
Pato met with PSG officials on Thursday, but belatedly told them he didn’t want to switch clubs and was happy in Milan, despite a near-£30million agreement being in place.
That threw the situation into turmoil, and Milan clubs were scrambling to sort out their finances on Thursday night in order to make a firm offer for Tevez.
City though, remain unmoved by the drama surrounding the player’s fate.
They have maintained throughout that they will only consider a sale - and that at his market value - and will not accept any loan arrangement unless it contains cast iron guarantees of a permanent transfer.
That means the drama is likely to continue right up until the end of the transfer window, as they play a game of brinkmanship with the Italian clubs.
There is though, the possibility of PSG now reigniting their own interest in Tevez, after their move for Pato collapsed.
The wealthy French club have made enquiries about the Argentinian, and would be attracted to his star status.
The news will come as a blow to Blues manager Roberto Mancini, who was banking on getting Tevez off the wage bill to allow him to bring extra bodies into what he claims is a small squad.
While City are not short of funds for the transfer market, they are now acutely aware of financial fair play rules which demand they balance the books, and so wanted to ensure there were no further signings without first ridding themselves of the massive salary commitment to Tevez of more than £200,000 a week.
Mancini wants to sign a defender and a midfielder to cover for suspensions, injuries and the loss of players to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Now he could face some dramatic late negotiations, as talks look certain to go on right until the end of the January window.

Wantaway Samba set for crisis talks at Blackburn Published 22:30 12/01/12 By Alan Nixon
Blackburn skipper Chris Samba wants to quit the club and has slammed owners Venky's for a lack of ambition and broken promises.
The centre-half's outburst opens the door to a move to title-chasing Tottenham, ambitious QPR or big-spending French side Paris Saint-Germain.
Samba, who will meet Rovers manager Steve Kean on Friday to discuss his comments - said: "I sense that it is time for a change.
"I tried to maintain my level of performance, but the club does not evolve at all.
"Things have not gone as I was told.
"I have always put the interests of the club before my own. I have invested a lot and always tried to lead by example."
Spurs want Samba, provided the price is right; Hughes, who bought Samba for Rovers in 2007, is preparing to throw QPR's money about after being hired as their new manager this week, and PSG interest the defender, who was born seven miles from Paris.
"The most important thing is to find an ambitious club. I would love to experience something different," said the 27-year-old.
"PSG have reached another level, I am sure they will bring in great players. We shall see if the interest is confirmed."
Samba's statements are a blow to Kean, who said: "I was surprised to hear that. We had two bids from the same club last week. We refused and he is not for sale. We even sent a letter to the club saying we would not appreciate another bid. We will stand strong behind that.
"I will tell him [Samba] that and we will open dialogue with him. Hopefully he is in the right frame of mind to continue to play here.
"I am told there has been interest in him in most transfer windows. It is no surprise that he is on shopping lists when people see how effective he is in both boxes.
"I know I can sit down and speak with him. I get on well with him. If anything is in his head that he needs to tell me, we will pass that on.
"The actions of the club speak for themselves. We don't want to lose him. I want him to stay at the club. We all want him to stay at the club. The contract works both ways."
Rovers gave Samba a deal worth over £60,000-a-week a year ago, but still had to cope with his attempts to leave in the summer window.
While Samba may ask to be left out of the side after this latest outburst, Blackburn will hold out for a huge price - around £15million - as the row rumbles on

Kean to hold crisis talks with Samba as QPR, Spurs and PSG covet Blackburn captain By Chris Wheeler Last updated at 10:45 PM on 12th January 2012 Blackburn manager Steve Kean will hold talks with Chris Samba to determine if his captain is in the right frame of mind to face Fulham after the Congo defender indicated he wants to leave Ewood Park. Samba, 27, is said to be concerned that Blackburn are pricing him out of a move after Queens Park Rangers had an offer of £6.5million rejected. Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested, and Samba admitted in an interview in France that he would welcome a return to the country of his birth. He accused Blackburn of breaking promises to him and failing to progress under owners Venky’s. ‘I’ll get it translated and I’ll have a chat with him about it,’ said Kean. ‘We’ll hopefully get him in the right frame of mind to continue to play here. He’s not for sale. I’ll be telling him that. He’s in the middle of a long contract. I’ll listen to anything that has changed in Chris’s head and I’ll pass it on to the owners.’ Venky’s are reluctant to sell their most important player in the middle of a relegation battle, but are under pressure from Barclays to pay off half the club’s £20m debt and might consider offers of £10m-plus Read more: www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2085907/Steve-Kean-hold-crisis-talks-Christopher-Samba-QPR-Spurs-PSG-lurk.html#ixzz1jHx2MYEh
