Beleaguered Blackburn boss knows defeat at QPR could spell the end
The axe could hardly be hovering any closer to Steve Keanâs head as he brings his Blackburn side to Loftus Road on Saturday desperate for a win.
At odds of 5/4, Kean is the favourite to be the first top-flight manager of the season to lose his job. His side have managed just four points from their first seven games, losing at home to Wolves, Everton and Manchester City, and picking up a solitary away point at Fulham.
Their sole victory, a brave 4-3 win over Arsenal, briefly appeased the Rovers faithful, but a 4-0 hammering by City in their last game quickly had the vultures circling again.
Blackburn midfielder David Dunn called for fans to be ârealisticâ after the City result, but the grim reality for Kean is that his side sit second from bottom of the league, above only Bolton.
It has certainly been an inauspicious start to his Blackburn career for centre-back Scott Dann, who signed from relegated Birmingham City on the final day of the summer transfer window.
A defence with Dann and Christopher Samba at its heart should, in theory, be a solid bedrock for Blackburn, yet their back-line is yet to keep a clean sheet so far.
Keanâs side are likely to line up in a 4-3-3 formation, which can adapt to 4-5-1 when they are without the ball. In front of goalkeeper Paul Robinson, Dann and Samba will be flanked by either former Real Madrid star Michel Salgado or England Under-20 captain Jason Lowe on the right, and former France international Gael Givet at left-back.
Serbian international Radosav Petrovic is a relatively unknown quantity on the right of midfield; an imposing figure at 6ft 4ins, Petrovic looks more suited to centre-back than midfield, but has 19 caps and has already made five appearances since he signed from Partizan Belgrade in July.
Steven Nzonzi should occupy the central midfield berth, while Dunn adds a more physical option as he returns from the calf injury he sustained against Fulham in September. On the left of midfield Morten Gamst Pedersen is a threat, and decent from set pieces, although the Norwegian international rarely lives up to the standards he set earlier in his Blackburn career.
Junior Hoilett is capable of playing either up front or in left midfield, and he is potentially Roversâ most potent attacking weapon, having scored six goals last season â including the winner against QPR when the two sides met in the FA Cup third round in January.
Another summer signing, David Goodwillie, is yet to net in the Premier League since his move from Dundee United, although he did score against Sheffield Wednesday in the Carling Cup.
Former Everton, Middlesbrough and Portsmouth striker Yakubu leads the line for Keanâs side and is the clubâs top scorer, with both his goals coming in the win over Arsenal in September.
While both managers will feel he needs maximum points from this clash, only one faces potentially dire consequences if he fails. Rovers are unlikely to offer the same counter-attacking threat that both Aston Villa and Newcastle provided, and it could be the result that costs Kean his job â 2-1 to Rangers.

Does anyone know whether Blackburn are staying in London overnight because I went down to Sheperds Bush today to pick up my new home shirt from the club shop and I needed a new Xbox from Westfields, and on my way back I saw a coach with the Blackburn logo on the front with loads of people wearing blue training tops inside. Could it have been the travelling Blackburn team??

Warnock-no beef with Blackburn now Diouf's gone . Neil Warnock insists there will be no lingering bad blood in QPR's match with Blackburn this weekend - because âsewer ratâ El Hadji Diouf is no longer a Rovers player. An FA Cup third round tie between the two sides in January erupted into a tunnel brawl after the Senegal striker taunted Rangers' Jamie Mackie, who broke his leg during the match. Warnock branded Diouf âlower than a sewer ratâ and Hoops defender Bradley Orr called him a ârepulsive human being.â Mackie made his first appearance since as a substitute just a fortnight ago and is in the squad for Saturday's rematch at Loftus Road. But Diouf has yet to find another club since being released by Steve Kean over the summer. And the Hoops boss insists the Premier League is better off without him. âIt wasnât anything to do with both sets of players, it was just one particular individual whose name I donât even want to mention,â said Warnock. âSteve Kean was super after the game. I said to him, âI donât think that fella will be at your club for too longâ and he wasnât.â Warnock said Mackie, 26, is now pushing for his first Premier League start. âHeâs absolutely flying but weâve got to be a little bit patient. You want to throw him in because he works so hard,â he said. âBut his time will come. "Heâll be in the squad for Blackburn. There are always ironies in football and how ironic would it be if he scored?â QPR have only found the net once at Loftus Road so far this season â and that was an own goal by Aston Villa's Richard Dunne â and they let in six away to Fulham in their last match. âWeâre going to get some drubbings this season - and that was one of them,â conceded Warnock. âBut you donât want to go Wacky Races and lose by 10 instead of three.â Read more: www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/QPR-have-no-problem-with-Blackburn-now-El-Hadji-Diouf-is-gone-says-Rangers-boss-Neil-Warnock-article811999.html#ixzz1anPBUjBJ Sign up for MirrorFootball's Morning Spy newsletter Register here

Bump: Maudes' October Q&A Many thanks to Joe Ainscough who is a site journalist for www.blackburn.vitalfootball.co.uk/ nice to hear from a younger perspective too How long have you supported Blackburn ? I have been a Rovers fan for 15 years since I was 4 years old in 1996, so not the longest serving fan, but I couldnât have done much more really! Who's Blackburn âs biggest Rival (or Rivals)? It has to be Burnley . The rivalry between the two towns often goes under the radar, but it has to be one of the best rivalries in England . (We even had to have a police escorted coach to get to their ground!) They havenât beaten us in 32 years though, so there isnât much competition Are you happy with your team and how things are to date? â What are your opinions on your manager Steve Kean? His spending/selling this summer? In a nutshell â no. Since the takeover by Venkys our club has gone downhill rapidly due to the fact they seem to know very little about football. The replacement of Big Sam with our current inept and useless manager has to go down as one of the worst decisions in the history of our club. He needs to get sacked sooner rather than later if we want to stay in this league. The only plus points to his reign here are the signings such as Ruben Rochina and Scott Dann, but when you look at the players Sam signed at West Ham in the championship, you just wonder what he could have done with ÂŁ20 million to spend here. What do you think of your current Owners? WHY are they involved? What do you expect? Could they realistically have done more to boost your chances?I donât like them to be honest. They took us from a top 14 team safe from relegation to being back in the dog fight. They are full of broken promises and give us fans a lot of false hope. They are aiming for the Champions League in 3 to 4 years, yet we canât even get out of the relegation zone at present! They have turned us into the laughing stock of the Premier League. Their unrealistic pursuits of players such as Ronaldinho and Beckham proved they knew nothing, and yet they continue to baffle with their comments such as Steve Kean is a âbrilliantâ manager. If they had left things the way they were and left our old chairman John Williams in charge, then we wouldnât be in this mess. What are the general Rovers fans views on your teams trip to india ? Do you feel there is something to be gained from it long term? Or do you see it as an immediate disruption? There is obviously an untapped market out there in India , with a population of over 1 Billion, it makes sense to pursue marketing out there, but not at this current time, and it should have been left until the end of the season. How do you think Blackburn treats its fans? Appreciates them? Listens to them? Screws them?We certainly donât get listened to or appreciated it seems. The majority of fans want our current manager gone, and yet the owners make stupid comments about it being only a few people!? There is nobody who fans can contact at the club to discuss our concerns which is a major issue. Our owners need to learn fast, because if they donât they will have a lot of fans on their backs. Who are you Dangermen/Most valued/most overrated/most underrated players? Our danger men have to be Junior Hoilett, Martin Olsson and Ruben Rochina. They are young flair players, who bring that bit of magic and pace to our side. Most overrated has to be Gamst Pedersen. His set pieces gave him a name in the English game, but for the past few years he has been mediocre. Underrated has to be our danger men, they donât get enough credit, as seems to be a common trend between the âlesserâ clubs in the Premier League. Are you happy with your youth set up? Is your club doing enough to bring young/local talent through the ranks?Without being too biased, I think our youth set up is one of the best in the country. Many of our first team came up through the youth team and we have produced players such as Phil Jones and Junior Hoilett over the last couple of seasons. In our current first team squad we have Martin Olsson, Junior Hoilett, Jason Lowe, Grant Hanley, Josh Morris and David Dunn who have all come up through our youth system, and many more to follow if we are to believe what we are being told. Who would you say was the greatest Blackburn player that you yourself personally seen? And past player? (You can name more than one if it's that close!)Personally the best player I have seen over the last 15 years has been Tugay. He played for us until he was 38, and he still had his class at that age. As for greatest ever, well I am only 19 so itâs hard for me to say, so I will go for Shearer. Without him we wouldnât have won the league in 95. What is your prediction for Rovers this season? We will finish 16th after changing our manager. Are you aware of any player or manager links between our two clubs past and present? I know you took Pascal Chimbonda off our hands last season! Cheers for that! Haha! What is your view and the general Blackburn view of QPR (If we even feature in your consciousness) or of Neil Warnock and our owners?I think generally the feel is you will be in the dog fight along with us, but will manage to stay up due to buying well. Neil Warnock is not liked by many up here I have to admit. As for your owner, I am not really aware of any opinion one way or another, apart from many of us would swap! Who(if any) is your most memorable/favourite QPR Player over the years?Iâd have to go with a recent one and go for Adel Taarabt. He seems a very very good player, even if he is a bit controversial! Did you get to see any matches between our two clubs when we were last in the premiership? Not that I can think of, but I was at our cup game last season! Your view on el hadji diouf please!!?There is always a split divide when it comes to this guy. Personally I think he is a good player, who gives 100% all the time, and has a bit of fight in him. I was sorry to see him leave. Your score prediction for QPR v Blackburn Rovers? Random but I predict 4-2 to you guys! What, realistically, do you think Blackburn are capable of achieving in the next five years? 5 years is a long time and a lot can happen in that time. I will say top 10 finishes, pushing for a place in Europe , and maybe pushing for a cup win!

Funny how things turn out isn't it? Look at the player featured in the photograph for Blackburn! When we last met in the old Division One on 7th April 2001 we lost 3-1 at Loftus Road Blackburn at that time were sitting in 2nd place after 38 games whilst QPR lingered down in 23rd place . Blackburn went on to finish Runner's up to Fulham gaining promotion to the Premiership where they have remained whilst we were relegated to the third tier of football.

Flashback 5 Years: Ex- Blackburn and QPR Mike Ferguson talking re Blackburn and briefly, QPR www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/8676850.Ex_Blackburn_Rovers_ace_Ferguson__Clubs_are_too_scared_to_entertain/Lancashire Telegraph Ex-Blackburn Rovers ace Ferguson: Clubs are too scared to entertain NEW CULTURE: Mike Ferguson at Ewood in the 1960s Lancashire Telegraph: Photograph of the Author Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter / Friday 19 November 2010 / Sport Share 5 comments Want more stories like these direct to your inbox? Sign up HAVING been part of one of the most exciting Blackburn Roversâ sides in history, Mike Ferguson knows what he is talking about when he tackles the topic of entertainment. Those lucky enough to have seen the likes of Ferguson, Bryan Douglas, Ronnie Clayton and Fred Pickering grace Ewood Park with their free-flowing attacking football during the 1960s will argue they have never had it so good since â even taking the 1995 Premier League title triumph into account. Ferguson isnât about to disagree either and, as he keeps a close eye on the so-called beautiful game from his Burnley home, he believes a combination of âmoney and fearâ is in the process of destroying the âthrilling spectacleâ football used to provide. No one of that generation will forget âFergieâ waltzing past defenders with breathtaking auda-city. He was just one member of Jack Marshallâs âmisfitsâ who thrilled top-flight audiences up and down the country with a cavalier approach to the game. Now, as two of Fergusonâs old sides, Rovers and Aston Villa, prepare to go head to head at Ewood on Sunday, he believes the âbusiness-likeâ Premier League has taken away footballâs freedom with results very much a priority over style. He said: âI will never forget the pleasure of playing in the same team as Ronnie Clayton, Fred Pickering, Bryan Douglas and all the others. It was the best team I ever played in â by a mile, and I played in some good teams. âThe nearest I came was when I was at QPR but it wasnât really a patch on Rovers. The thing that sticks out about both of these sides is entertainment. When you came to watch us back then you would be entertained no doubt about it. âPerhaps we were never going to win anything but we just didnât ever talk about closing out games or keeping things tight. We were a phenomenal team, an absolutely phenomenal side. âIf we were winning 3-0 with a minute to go, we would throw everything forward looking for a fourth. We would do the same if we were 1-0 up. We just didnât want to defend we wanted to entertain. âNow you look at the managers in the Premier League and Iâm not sure any of them go into games with that mentality and the owners are to blame for that. They have installed a fear culture that stops teams expressing themselves.â Ferguson, who was playing for Accrington Stanley when they went to the wall, signed for Rovers as an unknown quantity in 1962 after training with rivals Burnley. He went on to make 249 appearances for the club, scoring 36 goals, before signing for Villa in May 1968 in a deal worth in the region of ÂŁ50,000. Towards the end of his career he sampled life in the North American Soccer League with the Los Angeles Aztecs and then embarked on a coaching and management career that took him around the world. He managed teams in the European Cup and was part of Terry Venablesâ England scouting network during the build up to Euro â96 â and, having played with the likes of Douglas and Rodney Marsh, played his part in his fair share of thrillers. âAll managers now are always looking over their shoulders because owners are scared stiff of relegation,â said Ferguson. âWho can blame the managers for not letting their teams play with a freedom? There is too much riding on it. âManagers today are petrified. Jack Marshall was never petrified, he just let us go out and play. He never once said we have to be more defensive, irrespective of whether we were winning or not â it just never crossed his mind. âI saw it happen with âDeadlyâ Doug Ellis at Aston Villa when I was there. He was almost before his time and would not have been out of place in todayâs owners world. âHe sacked Tommy Cummings too quickly and continued to do the same throughout his time at Villa. The money factor has destroyed the game. It isnât just us old pros being bitter, it is a fact that it has completely destroyed the game as a spectacle because of the pres-sures.â While not a fan of footballâs new cautious nature, Ferguson was quick to defend Rovers boss Sam Allardyce and warned against people expecting too much when Indian poultry giants Venkyâs complete their takeover. He said: âWhat people have to appreciate is that managers like Sam Allardyce have only got so much money to work with. He is never going to point out that his players are limited â but it is a fact. âHe only has so much to spend and that determines how high he can take Blackburn up the table. Money makes a bigger difference than ever. I have a lot of time for Sam and think he is doing a good job taking into account the money. âIf the new owners go into the club and donât have the funds to compete to bring players in from the transfer market, letâs not have the supporters complaining about the manager. âIf these new owners come in with the funds people have been talking about then we just have new owners and have to carry on the same. âThe problem is people expect things to happen and the new owners will probably put pressure on Sam to achieve. Share article "What do they expect, though? He canât perform miracles.â Ferguson is in the process of writing a book about his football experiences and it is expected to be out in bookshops next October
