No pressure, no commitment on your part. I am getting closer to finishing my "The Old Days" book and would like a rough idea from members on this site as to who might like a copy. To keep it simple, at the moment I am looking at £3 each plus p&p to be advised. All profits will go to QPR in the Community for the Downs Syndrome kids.
I have had lots of helpful suggestions about e-books but I am not sure this is the way to go. Generally, a licence is required for this at a cost of in excess of £300.
The book is created in Publisher but I can put it into Word .doc format to read straight off a monitor. Also conversion to a spoken word CD/DVD is perfectly viable for those who are visually impaired.
Due to the fact that it would massively reduce any income, I am not intending to use a professional publisher. I see no point in putting in all this work just to line the pockets of some 'fat cat' and help him to pay for the running of his Rolls Royce. All the work will hopefully be done 'in house' but will need to see how things go.
The next message on this thread will list those who have so far indicated an interest in having one or more copies. Please add your name and requirement by means of copy and paste. If you do not feel competent to do this, just tell me what you want and I will adjust the list. This is purely so that I can get a rough idea of how many copies will be required on the first run.
It would be appreciated if any comments and suggestions on the production of this be confined to the 'Gramps' book' pages rather than here.

Licence for an e-book? Never heard of that before and my mate is a writer. I do his website for him - currently on hold as we're about to relaunch the site with a fresh new design and his books.

Gramps, I'll have three please, one for myself, one for my father and one for my son - all QPR supporters, of course!
Also, given that proceeds are going to Downs, I may be able to help you put the book on-line for sales. My cousin (in the UK) has a child with Downs. PM me if interested. I can't do this immediately, but by the time you are finished...

Just so everyone is aware: Every book Gramps sells, all the proceeds go to the QPR-in-the Community... So he's taking a big hit from this

Why don't you add Bushman's photographs? I reckon you can add 20 pages of photos, and it'll be beautiful. Text and photos. It's all there.

Not opposed to Kindle - I have had one for quite a while. It's just the logistics of the whole thing. Will have a look at it. They may not do it for people who are not going through a publisher.

You guys are absolutely brilliant. 34 advance orders already. Had better make sure this is good! Don't worry guys, there will be plenty of pics but trying to keep them relevant to the chapters concerned. As I am doing a bit of a revamp at present it has slowed things down a bit. Will be working on it all day tomorrow.

With here and others outside this board I already have orders for around 50 books.
The latest situation is that I will definitely be producing it myself. My printer friend wants £344 just to do the printing of 86 pages - no binding - and supply of 8 reams of paper. That will cost me 40p more per copy than I am selling them for! I know he has to run a business but ...................
I am desperately hoping it may be possible to get the first 100 copies ready by the first week in November. I am away all next week in exotic Hayling Island so can't do much then. It will all happen soon.
