www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3792307/QPR-want-to-sign-David-Beckham.htmlQPR want to sign David Beckham By ROB BEASLEY Published: Today QPR's new owner Tony Fernandes is planning a swoop for David Beckham. The Malaysian tycoon reckons it will help Becks' Olympic dream and wants him at Loftus Road as soon as his MLS season ends with LA Galaxy. He believes the ex-England captain will be tempted by the promise of regular first-team football in the run-up to the London extravaganza. Beckham, now 36, has made no secret of the fact he wants to play in the 2012 Games. Fernandes knows Becks will not come cheap but believes shirt sales and other merchandising will more than cover the cost of bringing him to West London. The player's Galaxy deal expires at the end of the season. He has been offered a new one but, so far, has not committed himself. A Rangers insider said: "Tony promised Neil Warnock plenty of support in the transfer market and proved that in the recent window. "But bringing Beckham back to England next month would top the lot — and it's not a pipe-dream." Imagine how much that could boost our image!!! Also not impossible. I remember Donovan playing for Everton a few seasons ago after the MLS season ended.

I can imagine him scoring the winner at Old Trafford from a 30 yard freekick!!! Would be great for the club image. We would get MLS fans watching us especially to see how he gets on.

A bit old but what a great passer of the ball. His crossing is excellent, even now.

Signing Beckham wouldnt be the biggest surprise in the world...
But then we go back to the old question: Whose signing would this be? Somebody Warnock wants? Or someone Fernandes wants? Sounds like Fernandes - and much more for off the field reasons. I presume Warnock would go along if that's what Fernandes really wanted. But it does go back to who's in charge re players

please no, in my humble opinion the man peaked after the greek game, only benefit, possibly, would be commercially and I seriously doubt that now. Also went to 2 World Cups not 100% fit, at the expence of SWP

If its to enhance the brand and reputation of the club internationally there are few players who would do that more quickly. If we are to grow and potentially justify a new stadium the odd "trophy player" will have to be part of that.

Want instant international recognition for the QPR brand then sign Beckham. I remember being in Singapore just after he signed for LA Galaxy, and his LA G shirt was everywhere with the sponsors logo naturally. Get Air Asia to sponsor and QPR Beckham shirts will be advertising Air Asia everywhere around the world, so TF gets his investment back quick smart!!

Eus and Sharky have it for me.
One also must consider the fact that SWP failed abysmally in his attempts to replace Beckham even when he was supposedly finished and Beckham returned and virtually got us back in qualification contention single handedly O(with Crouch) only for Mclaren to cods up again.
Great for the commercial aspect and cameo roles replacing Taarabt on a weekly basis. ;D

I am flying shortly to Bali, with Air Asia, and will be wearing my QPR blueeyedcptcook shirt. I assume that I will draw as much attention as Becks.

Don't think this would happen overnight and my biggest reservation would be that once the team have gelled, if they are playing well and winning games, it would not be the best idea in the world to break up a winning combination. Although, as suggested, a 'cameo' role here and there might be acceptable. (Trying to control my bias here as I don't like and never have liked Beckham as a person).

Commercially how much shirts will we need to cover what we will pay him. We won't make much more on gate receipts as our ground isn't big and we would probably have sold most of our allocation without him anyway.
Let's say we sold a Beckham shirt at say £47.00(Inc letters) we would need to sell 10000 Beckham shirts to generate £470k which isn't all profit and wouldn't cover his salary.
Then again it could make us more known globally as Beckham is a massive world wide brand. So would get overseas sales. Also he might bring in some sponsorship. Actually the more I think about it. The more it isn't such a crazy idea. If he is fit and can do a job for us and the deal is negotiated correctly it could work.
If we got him. Who would we drop from our 25?

If the manager really wants him, maybe. Otherwise, definitely not. Forget all the fanciful nonsense about making QPR an 'international brand'. We're a little club in Shepherd's Bush. We'll become bigger and better supported by playing good football and winning games, not by attempting to sell shirts to people who live in other continents.

He's just a clothes horse for the big corporations now, I'm sure there are massive commercial incentives, but I'd rather remain oblivious to that, I appreciate the purity of sport, not the financial side of it, I'll leave that to the businessmen.

Let's remember, he could not play for us before January!
He could then make his debut in our world record attempt at losing in cup matches.

The sustainability of this club can only come from commercial success (unless we expect to be bankrolled by billionaires for ever). We just signed players on big salaries which need to be paid for and improving positive brand recognition is critical. Stadiums, players, youth academies and even parades need to be supported on a sound basis otherwise why even the pretence of being a viable EPL team (or championship at that). Lets face it, I don't mind being a 3rd or 4th tier team but we don't currently financially punch above that.

well i think it would be a good move. experience in abundance
he hardly ever misses the target with free kicks so therefore would score a few which would turn out to be very valuable and worth points and true it would be financially a benefit to the owners who remember are paying a lot of money out now on players you do agree with so therefore the money has got to be brought back somehow.
it would be another move and deal of the season and would also say to a lot of class players elsewhere we could be the new team to come and join.
at the least it will make a lot of class players sit up and say hang on who is this qpr it can only benefit us long term and for just the signing of 6 -12 months.
well worth the punt i say.

QPR maybe onto a good thing here, as David Beckham 36yrs and a tad to slow for Premier League Football so just cameo appearances would be fine, so Commercially it would be huge. The David Beckham Academy has closed in 2009 and He is looking to open a Mobile Academy around the UK and further afield. There could be a QPR tie up here maybe as QPR are looking for Academy status for next Season. Also David Beckham may be a great Coach for the Kids and help QPR in this roll also, and one last thing Davids Boys need a good Team to go to and learn the Trade with Dad, as Brooklyn is 12Yrs, Romeo is 9Yrs, and Cruz is 6Yrs They could all Play for QPR. I also think our Gates would improve as well. UUUUrrrrSSSS
