Upbeat Warnock 'can't wait' for Cardiff showdown NEIL WARNOCK shrugged off the disappointment of dropped points against Derby on Monday by insisting he was already excited about Cardiff on Saturday. The Rs could have been travelling to the Bluebirds with promotion in the bag – had they beaten the Rams at Loftus Road and Norwich failed to beat Ipswich on Thursday. But the QPR boss is thrilled at the prospect of a potentially nervy afternoon in south Wales, even if it does prolong the agony. “This is what we're in it for,” Warnock said. “Everybody talks about pressure, but I'm enjoying it and loving every minute of it, me. Full house. Eight points clear with four games to go? There's a lot worse pressure. “I think we've got four great games to come. There will be end-to-end stuff and chances galore. Cardiff have to beat us with Norwich and Reading breathing down their neck.” Warnock added: “I love Cardiff and I like the Welsh. It's got good memories for me and I just want to go there now and do well. I'm sure a few other Championship sides will be cheering for us on Saturday. “It will be a good atmosphere. There's no chance of Cardiff putting 10 men behind the ball and going for a point is there? So I think it will be a good game. “You look at the forward line they've got and I don't think there's anybody better in the whole division. They are a lot better than most Premier League clubs.” www.ealinggazette.co.uk/sport/qpr-ealing/2011/04/18/upbeat-warnock-can-t-wait-for-cardiff-showdown-64767-28542883/

Nathan Blake: Bluebirds can still rein in Rangers and win the title
* by Nathan Blake, South Wales Echo * Apr 18 2011 CARDIFF City are bang on course for promotion – and, yes, I could still see them nicking the title off QPR. That may be an outside shot, but City have to keep up the pressure and be ready if the leaders slip. They have to go into this Saturday’s top two clash against QPR intent on maintaining their run of wins and keeping title hopes going. Personally, I still believe they have a shout of catching Rangers. If they do fall short and finish second that won’t be bad. But they must not permit this chance to slip by without a massive effort. They look more than capable of finishing the job and the players have shown they are giving it everything they have. The 3-0 win against Portsmouth was comfortable. Okay, Pompey had Ricardo Rocha sent off, but Cardiff played well as a team and achieved the result required. Only four players in the squad – McNaughton, Whittingham, McPhail and Rae – were on duty when these teams met in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium in 2008. City have made solid progress since that day at Wembley and the prize they are striving for – a place in the Premier League – is huge. Certainly nobody is going to make things easy for the Bluebirds. QPR will beat Derby at home tonight, Norwich will beat Ipswich at Portman Road on Thursday and I am convinced Reading will beat Leeds at Elland Road on Friday. Then comes City v QPR in front of a capacity attendance. I can’t wait for that. It will be a fantastic occasion. Two of the best teams in the Championship going head-to-head. The atmosphere will be incredible. For me, the chase for automatic promotion is down to four teams – QPR, Cardiff, Norwich and Reading. I saw Bluebirds director Steve Borley at a function in the week and he said: “Surely Reading can’t win 12 games in a row?” But my view is they can. Reading have won eight with four left – and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they go the whole way. But, even if they do, City can finish second and go up automatically because Reading are still three points behind. City have the desire and the tools needed to finish in the top two and the backing of every Bluebirds fan in the battle for Premier League status. And let’s not write off Swansea in their quest to go up. They may have been too inconsistent, particularly away, to maintain a close challenge for automatic, but they look certain to make the play-offs and will be dangerous. The Swans are miserly at the back and have pace in abundance. My view is Swansea will be in the play-offs and nobody will fancy playing them at that stage. There is every chance that Cardiff will go up in an automatic place and Swansea will follow via the play-offs. That would be fantastic for Wales. We’ll see how things go, but I have a good vibe about the two right at this moment in time. Reading are an obvious danger. They remind me of Blackpool last season, steaming into the play-offs and going up. Their manager, Brian McDermott, won’t have given up on the chance of automatic promotion just yet, but I hope City can see these next four games out in the right way. Craig Bellamy has been showing the leadership qualities we know he has and that’s great for Cardiff. It was always clear that if they could keep Bellers fit he would be a key to everything they wanted to achieve. He helps give the team that drive and belief. Craig hates losing. He has an ability to lift and inspire those around him and he’s done a cracking job this season. That edge that Craig brings to a team is something City have been missing over the last couple of seasons. That bite and intensity. I do agree with Dave Jones when he says City are far from a one-man team. Craig can’t do this on his own. He leads by example, but everybody has to step up and that’s what they have been doing. Cardiff have kept clean sheets in each of their last two matches and that helps everybody. They have come through the spell when it seemed as though three goals had to be scored if they were going to win and there is an air of authority and composure about the whole team when defending. There are four games left and this weekend is huge. Cardiff have a full week off and they will use that to ease a few injury niggles and rest tired legs. They may even have a day or two off. Then comes the game which will shape their season. City can’t afford to slip. The golden prize is within their reach – and it’s up to Dave Jones and his team to grab it with two hands. www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/cardiff-city-fc/2011/04/18/nathan-blake-bluebirds-can-still-rein-in-rangers-and-win-the-title-91466-28536037/

Warnock: I’m jealous of Premier quality Cardiff possess and we’ve done so well to race clear of themby Chris Wathan, Western Mail Apr 20 2011 NEIL WARNOCK has warned more than one promotion destiny could be decided this weekend as he challenged Cardiff City to try and stop history. The Queens Park Rangers chief knows he can seal a place in the Premier League with victory in South Wales on Easter weekend – just as he did with Sheffield United five years ago. But, with the second-placed Bluebirds boasting automatic aims of their own, Warnock has insisted Cardiff’s hopes of joining him in the top-flight will be gone if they don’t stop a repeat scenario. And the 62-year-old, with two top level promotions already to his name, is adamant all the pressure is on rival boss Dave Jones and his squad to be “jealous” of as the countdown begins to the Championship’s biggest game of the season. Cardiff will welcome the league leaders to a sell-out Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday with the Londoners eight points ahead and needing just one win in their last four games to seal an almost inevitable promotion. And the Hoops – who have led the Championship for the majority of the campaign – have been told by Warnock they will face an electric and expectant atmosphere, not to mention a side he claims have a forward line better than most top-flight teams. But the often outspoken Yorkshireman insists he will head into the clash with the full-backing of the Bluebirds’ rivals for the promotion places – including fifth-placed Swansea City. The onus, he says, is on the hosts. “It’s set up for a cracker. I love the Welsh and I like Cardiff – it’s got good memories for me,” said Warnock, who all but secured his most recent promotion when Sheffield United triumphed 1-0 at Ninian Park in 2006. “That was a good weekend. We got a good result on Good Friday and were promoted by the Monday – and it’s Easter weekend again. “I can’t wait and we’ll go down there wanting to win and there’ll be a few other Championship clubs cheering for us too on Saturday. “But we’ve just got to worry about ourselves and getting as many points as we can between now and the end of the season. “And it’s good we’re playing a team which will want to have a go at us – you look at their forward line and there’s no chance they’ll put 10 men behind the ball. “And, if I’m honest, I think they have to beat us with Reading and Norwich breathing down their necks.” Norwich (74 points) and Reading (72) both play before 75-point Cardiff aim to prove their promotion worth in the early afternoon test, Swansea on 70 points aiming to keep their faint hopes alive when they travel to Portsmouth later on. All are looking to lay a claim to that second spot for it’s been all but accepted that the title is QPR’s – even with the controversy surrounding the transfer of midfielder Alejandro Faurlin still to be settled by a disciplinary hearing. Having lost just five games all season, collecting 24 clean sheets along the road, few would begrudge Warnock that third elevation to the big stage. Yet he still maintains he is jealous of Jones and the forward players he has had to call upon during this campaign. Describing Cardiff’s front-line as Premier League class – even from the manager with the supremely talented Adel Taarabt in his squad – Warnock shied away from suggesting Cardiff should be giving his Hoops a closer run for their money. But he did stress it showed just what an achievement QPR’s will be should they collect that last win. “Look at that forward line and I don’t think there’s anybody better in the whole division,” he said. “In fact, they’re a lot better than most Premier League clubs. Craig Bellamy, Jay Bothroyd, Chris Burke and Peter Whittingham on the other side – Crikey, it’s not bad is it? “I don’t know whether they should be closer to us because I don’t really worry about anybody else or how they should be doing. But, I’m jealous if I’m honest – I wish I had Bellamy and Bothroyd. “And I think it shows what a job we’ve done with the lads we’ve got. We’ve been pretty amazing as a team and I can’t fault my lads for what they’ve done week-in, week-out. They deserve to be where they are.” All said with a grin, it can be easy to dismiss Warnock’s claims as the start of mind games before a match so crucial to both side’s ultimate success this season. And some could be happy to suggest that it’s a sign that Warnock himself is the one under pressure, that a wobble may be coming at just the wrong time. Specifically at a time where Cardiff seem to be showing they can be as good on the pitch as they are on paper. But, never afraid to offer an honest opinion, there is everything genuine about Warnock’s excitement ahead of the televised fixture. A sell-out Cardiff crowd will guarantee plenty of noise and, Jones will hope the kind of response it brought in the impressive victory over Portsmouth last weekend. But, with history in his sights, Warnock is more than ready for the challenge. “Everybody talks about pressure but I’m loving every second of this, me,” he said. “There’s pressure on everybody these days but I love it. Full house at Cardiff? Eight points clear and four games to go? You can be a lot worse off than that. “It’s the sort of atmosphere you thrive on and what you’re in the game for. I can’t wait.” www.walesonline.co.uk/cardiffonline/cardiff-football/2011/04/20/warnock-i-m-jealous-of-premier-quality-cardiff-possess-and-we-ve-done-so-well-to-race-clear-of-them-91466-28549730/

Warnock's our Savage: Loves the big games in the Lion's Den!QPR Official Site
WARNOCK: 'IT'S SO EXCITING'Posted on: Wed 20 Apr 2011 Neil Warnock believes his QPR side will face a hostile reception from the Cardiff City faithful when the R's take on Dave Jones' men on Saturday lunchtime. The Hoops head to the Cardiff City Stadium with an eight point advantage over Dave Jones' men and with a bumper crowd expected, the R's gaffer told http://www.qpr.co.uk: "It's a great stadium and they're a vocal crowd. "It'll be hostile - I'm sure the referee will have to be a good one." With the promotion race really hotting up in the npower Championship, Warnock added: "There'll be a few teams rooting for us I bet! "It always good to play against Dave's team. "They've got the best forwards in the Championship. "There's no chance of Cardiff putting 10 men behind the ball and going for a point is there? "I like pitting my wits against good sides and Cardiff are certainly that, so it should be a great game. "The Welsh will turn out in full and we've sold out our allocation, so I'm really looking forward to it." Rangers head into the fixture with their promotion destiny firmly in their own hands and Warnock added: "I just think we've got to look after ourselves. "I've no doubt it will go right down to the wire, but we're excited. "You talk about management, and these types of fixtures are why you're involved. "Yes I'll have butterflies, but that's normal. "I'm glad it's an early morning kick-off, so I won't have too long to think about it!" www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~2342164,00.html

Its hotting up............ QPR boss Neil Warnock turns up heat on Cardiff City Apr 20 2011 QPR boss Neil Warnock has turned up the heat ahead of Saturday’s top-two showdown, claiming it’s win or bust for the Bluebirds. Warnock’s Championship leaders can seal promotion to the Premier with victory over second-placed Cardiff at the weekend. But he has thrown down the gauntlet to Dave Jones’ men by insisting they can forget about joining them in the top flight if they don’t beat his Hoops. City are eight points behind Rangers and are aiming for a fifth win on the bounce to inch them closer to the Premier. But despite the Cardiff charge, Warnock is adamant the weekend is make or break for automatic promotion ambitions. QPR’s point against Derby on Monday means they need only three points from their last four to take the first Premier place on offer, and Warnock said: “Saturday is set up for a cracker. I like Cardiff and I love the Welsh but we’ll go there looking to win – and there will be a few other Championship clubs cheering for us too. “But we’ve just got to worry about ourselves and getting as many points as we can between now and the end of the season. “And it’s good we’re playing a team who will want to have a go at us – you look at their forward line and there’s no chance they’ll put 10 men behind the ball looking for a point. “And, if I’m honest, I think they will have to beat us with Reading and Norwich breathing down their necks.” Read More www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/cardiff-city-fc/2011/04/20/qpr-boss-neil-warnock-turns-up-heat-on-cardiff-city-91466-28549417/#ixzz1K6DVI1IR

Cardiff counting on Bellamy to outgun promotion rivals Published 22:59 20/04/11 By Phil Cadden Recommend Cardiff believe ‘Captain Fantastic’ Craig Bellamy is fully loaded and ready to supply the ammunition to fire them into the Premier League. The Bluebirds will clinch automatic promotion and a return to the top-flight for the first time in 49 years if they win their four remaining games. And Cardiff boss Dave Jones reckons fiery star Bellamy will help the Welsh outfit to out-gun their Championship rivals in the run-in, starting against leaders QPR on Saturday. Jones said: "Craig wears his guns on his hips, and they are always loaded. That is what fires him up. "He is a top player and we’re very fortunate to have him. We appreciate that. He has been a massive part of the club and the catalyst of what we do because he is our captain. He leads by example. “Craig has been fantastic and ran forever and ever at Sheffield United. But everyone had this idea that Craig should have come in and burnt this division up. Not one player could do that game in, game out.” Bellamy has scored nine goals as well as providing nine assists since joining his hometown club on a season-long loan from Manchester City last August. But Jones insists the Wales striker needs the help of his team-mates if the 31-year-old is to complete the mission of leading Cardiff into the promised land. Jones added: “It’s never about just one player and Craig can’t play without the other ten. Even Messi needs his team-mates around him. He can’t do it all on his own. “Every team has good players. People say how good Steven Gerrard is for Liverpool and it’s the same for Frank Lampard at Chelsea, Wayne Rooney to Manchester United and the lad Taarabt at Queens Park Rangers.“ They are all players with fantastic ability and standards. But, believe me, it’s not just about them, it’s about their team-mates as well. “It’s a team game. and the other players in the team have to put a shift. I have 20-odd players to manage and we look at the whole of the group rather than just the individual.” Read more: www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Cardiff-believe-loan-star-Craig-Bellamy-is-ready-to-lead-them-into-the-Premier-League-article725822.html#ixzz1K6VcmDXo Sign up for MirrorFootball's Morning Spy newsletter Register here

How do Cardiff City stop Adel Taarabt? by Paul Abbandonato, South Wales EchoApr 21 2011 Adel Taarabt: How do you stop him? PAUL ABBANDONATO profiles QPR dangerman Adel Taarabt HE has been dubbed ‘The Matador’, officially named the best player in the Championship. Even his own manager, Neil Warnock, says he would want to boot him up in the air if he were playing against him. This is the genius that is Adel Taarabt, the Queens Park Rangers captain who comes to Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday as public enemy number one to the Bluebirds’ promotion hopes. The mercurially gifted Taarabt is probably even more Jason Koumas-like than the enigmatic Welsh star himself. A magical match-winning maverick on his day, completely anonymous when he is off his game. To be fair to Taarabt, his good days are far more consistent than those of Koumas, but Dave Jones and his team must ensure they have a game plan in place this weekend which ensures we see the worst, rather than the best of the brilliant 21-year-old Moroccan. Quick Vote Is all the pressure on Cardiff Saturday? Yes, certainly 0.0% No, let's just concentrate on the league 0.0% No, I hate changing money all the time 0.0% Only the Welsh Premier teams should be allowed in 0.0% Don't know 0.0% It clearly takes someone very special to be rated ahead of Bluebirds captain Craig Bellamy as the best player outside of the Premier League, but that is an accolade pundits, fans and Taarabt’s own peers have bestowed on him. Taarabt’s goals and creativity have proved the difference between QPR being top or part of the chasing pack. He was the difference between the two teams when QPR beat City 2-1 at Loftus Road back in November. His performance against Swansea four weeks on, when QPR won 4-0 and Taarabt made mugs of normally water-tight defenders with his tricks and dribbling skills, was probably the best individual showing of the season. www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/cardiff-city-fc/2011/04/21/how-do-cardiff-city-stop-adel-taarabt-91466-28556620/#ixzz1K94s9C4F

Obviously we may end up losing. But clearly THE pressure and THE need to win is on Cardiff...Wales online
Dave Jones sends out warning to QPR boss WarnockDAVE JONES today fired a passionate warning message to QPR boss Neil Warnock, declaring: “We’re coming after you”. The Championship heavyweights go head to head on Saturday as Cardiff look to slash the leaders’ eight point advantage at the top of the table. Hoops boss Warnock cranked up the pressure ahead of the biggest game of the season earlier this week, insisting all the pressure was on the chasing Bluebirds. But Jones today hit back, telling his great rival the fight for the Championship title is far from over. “Neil can say whatever he wants to say – he normally does. We’re doing it for us, for our own reasons - we want to do well for this club," Jones said. “He has to win it because we are breathing down his neck. Neil forgets about that. “If we win on Saturday the pressure is on them just as much as us and everybody else who is chasing them. He’ll be trying to relieve the pressure from himself. “They haven’t won it yet. If we can get the result on Saturday the pressure is on them with three games to go as much as anyone else. “He’s a good manager and we’ve always been vying to try and win something. People forget that our CVs are as good as anybody’s. “He’ll want to be successful as much as I do. That is what keeps driving you on." A QPR win would see them clinch promotion to the Premiership at the Cardiff City Stadium, but Jones insisted his team is focussed entirely on their own performance. The Bluebirds could even clinch promotion themselves over the Easter weekend if they secure six points against QPR and Preston and other sides around them stutter. And Jones has urged players and fans to come together for one final push “We’re not spoiling anyone’s party. We’re looking after ourselves. “This football club has been building for a long time. “I think the fans have got a sniff of it just as much as the players have. We have all got to be one and forget about anything else. “There will be nerves but our aim is to keep chasing down the team above us.” The Cardiff boss confirmed Jay Bothroyd is fit, despite the striker tweeting about a hamstring injury earlier in the week. Tom Heaton could also return in goal for the Bluebirds, while Michael Chopra and Mark Hudson remain unavailable as they continue their fitness fightbacks www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/football-news/2011/04/21/dave-jones-sends-out-warning-to-qpr-boss-warnock-91466-28561772/#ixzz1KA6Peqqs

Moving beyond the rivalries... Wales on Line Brave duo to get day out at Cardiff City game * by Jessica Flynn, South Wales Echo * Apr 21 2011 TWO youngsters who have endured years of Cancer treatment will be treated to a VIP trip to watch Cardiff City this weekend. Ashley Parry, 12, from Llanedeyrn, Cardiff, and Tom Diamond, 17, from Aberdare, will be guests at Saturday’s clash between the Bluebirds and QPR. The boys and their families will have a slap-up meal at the ground before going behind the scenes and being shown to some of the best seats in the house. The day out has been organised by developer Redrow, which has adopted The Joshua Foundation as its chosen charity this year. Diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of 14, Tom is just coming the end of his round of chemotherapy and is looking forward to going to the match with mum Lynne and sister Rebecca. “I met the team about two years ago when Robbie Fowler and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink were playing for them and they signed a football for me,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to it big time and I think we’re going to win 2-1. I haven’t been to the new stadium yet. I’ve only seen it from the outside and it looks brilliant, perfect for when we go up into the Premier League.” Ashley was diagnosed with APP – a form of leukaemia – three years ago, and Saturday’s trip represents a milestone in his treatment. Just this month he has finished his treatment at the University Hospital of Wales and is now on medication before hopefully getting the all-clear. “I’m really looking forward to it,” said Ashley, who will be going to the game with his dad Martin, his brother Connor and sister Milly. “I’m a season ticket holder and love watching them play but it’ll be great to be in the VIP area.” Martin said: “It’s been really tough through his treatment but Ashley is a brave cookie. But we’ve got through it and are all looking forward to watching the game.” Sarah Cornelius Price, who heads up The Joshua Foundation, said: “Both these kids are huge Cardiff City fans, so to give them this opportunity of being treated like kings on such a big day for the club and the fans is priceless.” www.walesonline.co.uk/cardiffonline/cardiff-news/2011/04/21/brave-duo-to-get-day-out-at-cardiff-city-game-91466-28557790/

Warnock pondering changes for Cardiff showdownNEIL Warnock is in the mood to spring a surprise with his team selection in Saturday's lunchtime clash with Cardiff City, rather than stick with the Derby line-up. His squad has a clean bill of health, with Fitz Hall now recovered from a groin strain and available again and Kaspars Gorkss in the frame in spite of having stitches in his head after being shoved into a TV camera behind a goal in Monday's televised match. Adel Taarabt's stomach injury is definitely a thing of the past too – a scan having revealed nothing untoward to explain a strain which was affecting him a week ago. Warnock has tended to stick with a winning side this season, but may seek to freshen up his team after a slightly jaded-looking second half performance against the Rams. “They've all been training well this week and I think they are all desperate to keep their positions,” said the QPR boss. “But there's one or two little issues I've got to think about before the game, although I'm not going to say what.” Rangers may be all-but promoted by the time the game kicks off at 12.45pm, if Reading fail to win at Leeds tomorrow night and Norwich slip up at Ipswich. But whatever happens, a win at in south Wales would guarantee that Easter Monday's clash against Hull City is be no more than a victory parade. That would be a sweet moment for the fans as well as the players – who will remember the agony of that 1-0 play-off defeat at the hands of the Bluebirds in the Millennium Stadium eight years ago. They won 2-0 on their first ever visit to the new Cardiff City Stadium – Jay Simpson's double giving them a win at the start of last season – and beat Dave Jones' men 2-1 at home in November, so confidence should be high. www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-sport/london-qpr/2011/04/21/warnock-pondering-changes-for-cardiff-showdown-82029-28562501/#ixzz1KAjNt8nV

Wales online Cardiff boss surprised to discover Bothroyd injury via TwitterBy Simon Gaskell, WalesOnline Apr 22 2011 Cardiff City boss Dave Jones has said he was “surprised” to discover Jay Bothroyd was struggling with a hamstring problem through the striker’s Twitter account. Jones said the Bluebirds’ top scorer hadn’t told management about any injury ahead of the highly-anticipated top of the table clash versus QPR this weekend, He said: “Well, we were a little bit surprised by it. He hadn’t twittered us. He hadn't twittered us and told us.” He didn’t confirm whether or not the striker was a doubt. But Jones – who does not use social networking – went on to describe Twitter and message boards as “the curse of football”. He said: “The Twitter thing, tweeter thing or whatever else, seems to be the curse of football at the moment because as soon as someone puts something on it they seem to get fined. “I don’t want to go onto Twitter, I don’t want to go on message boards because, for me, it doesn’t mean anything. “The people that do it are gossip mongers as far as I’m concerned. “Maybe I should go on Twitter – it would be fun because maybe I’d say things I want to say but really can’t say.” Jones’ comments come after West Ham striker Carlton Cole was fined £20,000 this week for his comments about Ghana supporters during last month’s friendly with England at Wembley. www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/football-news/2011/04/22/cardiff-boss-surprised-to-discover-bothroyd-injury-via-twitter-91466-28566967/#ixzz1KFBubRqz

And Jones perspective of Twitter and Messgaboards! Jones says Twitter is ‘curse’ of football by Simon Gaskell, Western Mail Apr 23 2011 CARDIFF CITY boss Dave Jones says he was “surprised” to discover Jay Bothroyd was struggling with a hamstring problem through the striker’s Twitter account. Jones said the Bluebirds’ top scorer hadn’t told management about any injury ahead of the highly-anticipated top of the table clash versus QPR at lunchtime. The Bluebirds manager said: “Well, we were a little bit surprised by it. He hadn’t twittered (sic) us.” He didn’t confirm whether or not the striker was a doubt. But Jones – who does not use social networking – went on to describe Twitter and message boards as “the curse of football”. He said: “The Twitter thing, tweeter thing or whatever else, seems to be the curse of football because as soon as someone puts something on it they seem to get fined.“I don’t want to go onto Twitter, I don’t want to go on message boards because, for me, it doesn’t mean anything.
