Bulls Docked Three Points
Posted on: Wed 06 Apr 2011
Hereford United have been docked three points and fined £10,000 following a disciplinary hearing in Bristol relating to the use of an ineligible player (Rob Purdie) during their game against Torquay United on February 1st.
£7,500 of the fine has been suspended. Torquay have been deducted one point and fined the same amount of money for their use of an ineligible player (Jake Robinson) in the same match.
Club Chairman David Keyte spoke to the Official Hereford United Website following the hearing, saying: " I am very disappointed at the outcome, we definitely will be appealing the decision."
The Bulls' chief later told Sky Sports News: "Very disappointed. We felt we (with Torquay) were sitting alongside as two clubs who had committed the same offence. Very disappointed that the penalties should be so greatly different. We made a strong case that the penalties should be equal.
"There's been no explanation for the ruling, it will come in writing within seven days.
"Mathematically it puts us back in the (relegation) mix, but on behalf of the players and management I have no fears of relegation. We've got a side that is playing perfectly well enough to stay in the league."

UNITED have been given a one point deduction for fielding an ineligible player in the fixture with Hereford United on February 1.
The Gulls have also been hit with a £10,000 fine, 25% of which has to be paid within seven days. The remainder of the fine must be paid by the end of next season.
"We are obviously disappointed," was the reaction of director Bill Phillips. "We have 28 days to appeal, so there is time to consider our options."

UNITED manager Paul Buckle was in philosophical mood after 24 hours to digest the news that we have been deducted one point and handed a heavy fine by the Football League.
The Gulls received their punishment for fielding an ineligible player (Jake Robinson) in the 3-1 defeat to Hereford in February, but Bucks is maintaining a positive outlook on events.
The players enjoyed an excellent training session at Plainmoor ahead of the trip to Bradford on Saturday and, on a personal note, Bucks has been nominated for the League 2 manager of the month award.
"I'm smiling about it today," he said. "It came as a surprise yesterday, especially when I was nominated for manager of the month on Tuesday and it was all smiles.
"The next day I turn on the telly and find we have a one-point deduction, which means we are in the play-offs by virtue of goal difference.
"We know now that we go into bat with 61 points and we have to try and use this as a positive. It can bring us closer together because it is an exciting time for our club. It is a negative but there have been a lot of positives this year.
"It is a big disappointment but we have to move on. There has been no mention of it from the players or staff, and that shows we have a strong mentality at the club. The season can throw lots of different things at you and this has come out of the blue.
"The players were vibrant this morning and the talk was only about how we're going to approach our game on Saturday."
As a club, we now have 28 days to decide whether to appeal the punishment, and the Board will take their time to ponder.
On the other side of the coin, Hereford were deducted the three points they gained from the match, as they also fielded an ineligible player, and Bucks admitted he was surprised that the Bulls were hoping for a different outcome.
"We didn't anticipate a point but it has come," he said. "We will sit on it and reflect for a few days before making a decision [on an appeal]. Whether we do appeal or not is down to the Board.
"Whenever mistakes are made, the most important thing is to learn from them. I don't think you can ever guard against it 100% because there is such a rush on transfer deadline days.
"We tried to do it right and I'm sure Hereford did as well, but ultimately, I knew the points were gone on the day. It didn't matter who won the game on the day. They were always gone and I knew that on the day, but I'm just surprised that we've lost a point as well as having a big fine.
"Ultimately, whatever the outcome in the Torquay v Hereford game, those points were gone. Surely, they [Hereford] knew they would lose three points. I've heard some of the comments to come out of Hereford and it is disappointing to talk about our football club.
"It was always a certainty that whoever picked up the points from that game would have them taken away. Our club was very positive by coming down and telling me straightaway. I knew immediately the points were gone, even if we won 10-0."
