Even if we're monitoring the so called out-of-form strikers, at least we're interested in strikers. Maybe we're all wrong and Benni isn't out of form at all. Or do you still wish to be right?
(Ebanks-Blake was massively overweight in his best seasons...)

I would like Warnock to be able to sign him - if that's who Warnock wants to sign

Don't get me wrong, Benni in his day was class, I am just yet to be convinced he could do a job for us. I am happy to be proven wrong though!

Dave McIntyre Blog - Ledesma played McCarthy's chance to impress davidmcintyre | January 18, 2011 at 15:22 | Categories: Uncategorized | URL: wp.me/pFeRV-9i Very interested to hear that Benni McCarthy featured for QPR in a reserve game at Tottenham this afternoon. McCarthy played up front alongside Heidar Helguson. Personally, I doubt anything will come of this and would be surprised if he ended up at Rangers. But then a couple of days ago I doubted that Wayne Routledge could be persuaded to leave Newcastle on loan. Lee Cook also played in the match – in central midfield – and there was another appearance by Emmanuel Ledesma, who came on as a second-half substitute. Spurs fielded a very strong side, which didn’t include David Beckham, and won the game 9-2. Two of Tottenham’s youngsters played at centre-back for QPR, which says something about how seriously these games are treated. And maybe about Rangers’ lack of cover in that position at the moment. by147w.bay147.mail.live.com/default.aspx?wa=wsignin1.0

Dave McIntyre/Wilsden Times QPR weigh up move for West Ham striker BENNI McCarthy played for QPR’s reserves in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Tottenham on Tuesday afternoon. The South African foward, 33, is out of favour at West Ham and is being considered for a loan move to Loftus Road. McCarthy enjoyed a successful three-and-a-half years at Blackburn, but has been criticised for being unfit and overweight since moving to east London just under a year ago. He previously established himself as a formidable striker for Ajax, Celta Vigo and Porto. More recently, the striker’s career has nosedived, and last year he was left out of his national team’s World Cup squad. McCarthy, South Africa’s all-time top scorer, has made only six first-team appearances for West Ham this season. www.wbtimes.co.uk/qpr/qpr_weigh_up_move_for_west_ham_striker_1_777455

Spurs fielded a very strong side ... and won the game 9-2. Two of Tottenham’s youngsters played at centre-back for QPR ... Right... Can I play next time? I'm as tall as Crouch and overweight as Benni - surely, wouldn't do much worse than the Spurs' youngsters.

www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/transfer-rumours/4577/9/qpr-lining-loan-swoop-tottenham-duo QPR boss Neil Warnock has been to make a personal check on Tottenham duo Jonathan Woodgate and Jamie O'Hara as he looks to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window. A Tottenham XI featuring Woodgate and O'Hara beat a QPR side 9-2 at Spurs' Chigwell training ground on Tuesday afternoon. And Warnock dashed to the match from QPR's training ground after his own side had finished training. QPR named a relatively weak team, with only four players - Radek Cerny, Lee Cook, Heidar Helguson and Leon Clarke - with any first-team experience. And it is thought that Warnock went to the game to check on centre-back Woodgate, who played 45 minutes, and midfielder O'Hara, both of whom have been made available for loan. Warnock has made no secret of his desire to strengthen his promotion-chasing squad, and reckons he could bring in up to four more players by the time his team meet Coventry on Sunday. But reports that Wayne Routledge has signed for his former club on loan from Newcastle are thought to be premature, although there is interest from Rangers.

Spurs Offficial Site Woody back as XI beat QPR 18 January 2011 21Share Jonathan Woodgate and Jamie O'Hara returned from injury as our Spurs XI beat QPR 9-2 in a friendly at Spurs Lodge on Tuesday. Central defender 'Woody' has been out of action with a groin injury since the 9-1 win against Wigan back in November, 2009. Midfielder O'Hara has also missed all this season with a back problem. The pair played the first half against a QPR side that included the likes of Lee Cook, Leon Clark, Heidar Helgusson and former Spurs goalkeeper Radek Cerny. It was a busy afternoon for Cerny as three goals in 10 minutes in the first half opened up a flood of goals. Ryan Mason opened the scoring from Niko Kranjcar's cross on 17 minutes and Kranjcar made it 2-0 four minutes later. xi v qpr QPR replied from the penalty spot but it was soon 3-1 as Niko skipped around Cerny and squared for Robbie Keane to tap home. Giovani hit the crossbar before QPR made it 3-2, but it was only a brief respite as Gio dinked the ball over Cerny for 4-2 at half-time. Dean Parrett and Massimo Luongo replaced Woody and O'Hara at half-time. It took just three minutes for the goals to start flowing again and the goal of the game as Nathan Byrne rifled into the top corner from 30 yards. Keane then threaded a pass through Gio to finish from close range. Sandro and Kranjcar tested Cerny again before a solo effort from substitute Simon Dawkins made it 7-2 after 76 minutes. Keane produced a sublime finish for 8-2 two minutes later and the final goal came in the 80th minute, substitutes Cameron Lancaster and Luongo combined and Luongo slotted home. xi v qpr "Woody was outstanding," said Technical Co-Ordinator Tim Sherwood. "He's not played for such a long time, but it was as if he'd never been away. "Jamie also showed what he's all about and a lot of experienced players in the line-up applied themselves well." Spurs XI: Pletikosa; Byrne, Woodgate (Parrett, 46), Khumalo, Townsend (Lancaster, 70); Giovani, O'Hara (Luongo, 46), Sandro, Kranjcar; Keane, Mason (Dawkins, 70)www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/articles/woody-back-as-xi-beat-qpr-180111.html

BBC Tottenham's Jonathan Woodgate plays in training match Tottenham centre-back Jonathan Woodgate continued his recovery from a career-threatening groin injury by taking part in a training-ground game on Wednesday. The 30-year-old has been out of action since November 2009 and has undergone a series of operations on the problem. He returned to training towards the end of 2010 and played for 45 minutes in a 9-2 Tottenham XI win over QPR. "Woody was outstanding," Spurs' technical co-ordinator Tim Sherwood told the club's website. "He's not played for such a long time, but it was as if he'd never been away." Midfielder Jamie O'Hara, who has yet to feature this season because of a back injury, also played in the first half.
The 24-year-old's last competitive action was in Portsmouth's FA Cup final defeat by Chelsea last May.
He has not played for Tottenham since August 2009 and reports suggest O'Hara could be on his way out of White Hart Lane as soon as he proves his fitness, with West Ham speculated to be interested in signing him.Woodgate, too, could leave the club before the close of the transfer window - although manager Harry Redknapp will only consider a loan move to help the centre-half recover fitness after such a long time on the sidelines. "I would be willing to do that just to give him some games," Redknapp said in December. New signing Bongani Khumalo, the South Africa international defender, also featured in the match. Tottenham's goals came through Robbie Keane (2), Giovani dos Santos (2), Ryan Mason, Niko Kranjcar, Nathan Byrne, Simon Dawkins and Massimo Luongo. newsvote.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/t/tottenham_hotspur/9365592.stm

Woodgate "outstanding" on Spurs comeback Tottenham defender Jonathan Woodgate made his long-awaited comeback from injury today by helping a Spurs XI thrash QPR in a training-ground friendly. Jamie O'Hara also returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines in a 9-2 victory at Spurs Lodge. Woodgate's career appeared under real threat earlier this season when manager Harry Redknapp revealed he was in the last-chance saloon regarding the treatment of his groin problem. But the injury-plagued centre-back, who has been out for 14 months, began to show real signs of improvement and took a huge stride forward today by completing 45 minutes, three days short of his 31st birthday. "Woody was outstanding," technical co-ordinator Tim Sherwood told Spurs' official website, www.tottenhamhotspur.com. "He's not played for such a long time, but it was as if he'd never been away." Redknapp was forced to omit Woodgate from his 25-man squad for the first half of the Barclays Premier League season, but may decide to include him when he resubmits it when the transfer window closes. Midfielder O'Hara also played the first half today, having returned from the back injury which has kept him out since the summer. The 24-year-old's Spurs future is less certain, with O'Hara having spent last season on loan at Portsmouth. He has repeatedly been linked with a move to West Ham and will struggle to break into a Tottenham side which already boasted an embarrassment of riches in midfield ahead of the expected signing of Steven Pienaar.

Routledge and McCarthy scored our two goals today - and we've now signed Routledge (tho you wouldn't know so if you relied on the official site, of course!)
That leaves the other goal-scorer . . .!!

Can we afford to gamble on Benni? Must be a reason for him to bring him in for a quick look. Is that because he can't get other strikers that he prefer?
Like the news about Routledge though. Good signing for us.

Hey, my pleasure ;-)
Meantime though - Dave MacIntyre of the Beeb site doesn't think anything is going to come of the McCarthy thing - but I'm not so sure. Why play him if you're not going to take him? My thinking is that there isn't anyone else - I mean, if Bent can go for £18 mill (rising to £24 mill), what price an "ordinary" striker!!
Oh, and Ledesma played for the Ressies again this afternoon . . . !

Was a good player at Blackburn , but at West Ham barely scored a goal and went out of condition ! Maybe we can get a loan in like Miller, Cox or Waghorn instead. Roberts looks like it wont happen now !! Thanks for WR update Sandy !

There you go Maude!
McCarthy lands QPR trial South Africa international looks to kick-start career with move Last updated: 18th January 2011 .Benni McCarthy is hoping to end his West Ham nightmare with a move to Championship leaders QPR.
The 33-year-old played in a behind-closed-doors match for Rangers reserves against Tottenham.
Spurs fielded a strong line up that included Robbie Keane, Jamie O'Hara and Jonathan Woodgate.
McCarthy managed to score as the Hoops' second string were thumped 9-2 to give Neil Warnock something to think about.
Reinforce Warnock is looking to reinforce his attack after strikers Jamie Mackie and Patrick Agyemang both suffered broken legs.
McCarthy joined the Hammers last January from Blackburn Rovers for £2.5million but he has yet to open his account for the club.
He has made just 13 appearances for West Ham, with 10 of those coming as a substitute.
And McCarthy's on-going weight problems have been a problem during his time at Upton Park.
