...by a swede who gets to visit Loftus road all too seldom!
Build up before the match was nice and we went to the Springbok for some nice beer and company. I spoke to a man who claimed to be friends with Martin Rowlands so we chatted about how much he and Mahon was missed, very nice chap who goes to quite a few away matches and all the home matches. I also met a swede there, he supported Millwall so this was his "second game" so to speak ( alot of swedes try to squeeze in as many matches as possible when we come over to England).
We went to the club shop and I bought pink caps for my daughters, indoctrination has to start somewhere, and if you can get football stuff in pink for them a lot is won!
Of course I also bought the latest issue of AKUTR's, brilliant issue by the way, BUT Jamie Seller (at least I think it was you) next time, don't ask me to "now go away" when I buy your fanzine (I honestly do wonder what I did wrong, maybe my accent? cause all I did was pay him!).
Inside Loftus road, well it is still a decent ground, but my oh my not much space for the legs is there? I think it gets tighter for everytime I visit, or maybe it is me getting older.
Some thoughts on the players:
Ikeme: Ok, came out good for some catches.
Ramage: Brilliant the whole game, can't understand all the stick he is getting. Should be playing central defender though. The cross for their goal came from his side but only because he had to cover for the central midfielders and defenders who dreadfully misread the situation before.
Gorkkss: Good header, pretty good all around, but sometimes out of position.
Stewart: Big, strong, tough. But very often out of position and also often on the wrong side of the one he is marking.
Hill: Very short, speedy, but was getting skinned the whole second half when Wednesday realized they had trouble getting past Ramage and switched to the other side. He was the one to lose his man for their goal. He is not good enough, especially since he is not our player.
Ephraim: Quick, technically good, but a tad too lightweight. But he runs and fights all the time. Some good signs, but needs to muscle up.
Taarabt: What a frustrating player, stunning to watch, but must let the ball go much much earlier. Brilliant player on the whole though, I agree strongly with the sign him up chants.
Faurlin: Very good and skillful player with a good vision. He should be our playmaker, and he must be used as one much more in the games. He was involved way too little in the match, because when he got the ball, we got some good stuff going. Nice for him to finally bag a goal.
Leigterwood: Built like an ox, but sadly moving like one too...Not good enough as a ball winner, we miss Rowlands/Mahon!!! Has a good shot though.
Priskin: Tough one, started decently but faded away, didn't see much of him during the second half.
Simpson: Honestly didn't see too much of him either, seems like a resourceful player though, would like us to sign him if possible.
I won't comment on the subs since I saw them for too short a time, but none of them had any serious impact on the game.
General thoughts:
We were a much better team, with more skillful players and should have killed the match while 1-0 up. But the back four looked shaky all the match and sometimes there was too much space between the central midfielders and the back four, which Wednesday took advantage of.
Very hard to compare to the swedish premier, but I think QPR would struggle there, depsite having the finances to dominate that league. This is due to playing such unmodern football. I thought I was watching a match from the 70s/80s or something. Tjoof lump it up one way poof lump it the other way...and this is so wrong for QPR to do now. It was so clear that we had the much more skillful team, hence we should bring the ball down and play. Actually use Faurlin as a playmaker so he can use his skills. Let the full backs move down to meet the keeper and give him options for what to do with the ball instead of just lumping it long, god it was years and years ago I saw football like that, for f...s sake, keep the ball within the team!!!
If this is what football is like in general in the championship I believe you have a big problem in England, you need to teach your young ones to play modern football, even outside the premier league. Otherwise you will never ever win the world cup again.
The audience: Very poor and unorganized chanting for the most part, BUT when the whole ground gets going the roof lifts, it is brilliant atmosphere then! Which is also a difference to Sweden, here we have much better chanting for most of the game, but very very rarely get the whole ground to rock.
On the whole a fun and pleasant day in London, but very frustrating way we let this match slip. Still I want more of the same, I already long for my next visit.
