British Eurosport will broadcast live coverage of all 32 matches of the 2012 African Cup of Nations from 21 January to 12 February with high definition coverage on Eurosport HD.
The 2012 tournament, co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea will be the 28th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations -the football championship of Africa organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
In the absence of Nigeria, Cameroon and defending champions Egypt, the Ivory Coast and Ghana have emerged as strong favourites for the title, with both teams boasting a star-studded line-up consisting of players from Europe’s elite clubs. The Ivory Coast squad boasts Chelsea forward Didier Drogba and club team-mate Salomon Kalou, as well as Arsenal forward Gervinho. In the heart of the midfield will be Manchester City’s Yaya Toure, while brother Kolo sits further back in central defence.
Ghana are likely to be one of the other stand-out performers, as they also possess players such as Al Ain forward Asamoah Gyan (on-loan from Sunderland) and Inter Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari. Ghana have not won the Africa Cup of Nations since 1982, and will be hoping that they can end the 30-year drought.
Eurosport will be on-site to deliver exclusive interviews along with a commentary team consisting of Leroy Rosenior, Tim Caple, Jon Roder, Dan O’Hagan and Wayne Boyce.
In addition to the live coverage, Eurosport will also broadcast the “Africa Cup of Nations Special” a daily 15-minute programme including reviews and previews of matches.
