IPSWICH Town's Damien Delaney faces his former club Queens Park Rangers at Portman Road on Monday (kick-off 3pm) with no regrets about his summer switch of clubs.
The 28-year-old defender goes into battle at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace at lunchtime today hoping to make it a Christmas double of six cherished Coca-Cola Championship points.
And there is little doubt which victory would give him the greater pleasure.
The Irishman, who has been a revelation since moving to central defence, said:
“Joining Ipswich Town was one of the easiest decisions I have made in my footballing life.”
Delaney made 59 appearances for QPR in 18 months having joined the Londoners from Hull in January 2008.
The Republic of Ireland international went on: “Rangers have had seven managers in the two years that the current owners have been in charge.
“They can't all be wrong.
“The track record of some of those managers shows they have really achieved something in the game.
“The atmosphere made it difficult, but on the pitch I had a great time at Loftus Road and they have a great set of lads.
“And on their day they can beat any team in this division.”
Delaney was surprised to see ex-Ipswich boss Jim Magilton lose his job earlier this month after a dressing room bust-up following a defeat at Watford on December 7.
“Jim Magilton was showing what a good manager he is and it was no shock for me to see Rangers high in the table a few weeks ago,” added Delaney.
“My move to Ipswich was set up by Jim (while he was still Ipswich manager) and sorted while I was away for much of the summer.”
Delaney's four games out of the first-team squad in early October has not tainted his hunger to do well in an Ipswich Town shirt.
He stressed: “I have never doubted my decision to join Ipswich although, to be honest, the challenge did not become the one I was expecting.
“At the start of the season nothing was going right for anybody at the club, including me. I enjoy playing left-back as much as central defence, but it didn't work for me.”
Rangers have a home game scheduled against Bristol City today with new manager Paul Hart bringing his party to Suffolk tomorrow night.
