On This Day in 1991 QPR Axe Don Howe - Very tough Axing; guess we wanted the younger then up-and-coming Gerry Francis

Been in charge for 18 months. Axe came a couple of months after QPR Won at Anfield

Flashback His Appointment....27 Years Ago - A couple of days after having axe Trevor Francis...

[Bumped a year]

Turned out to be a great appointment - And very harshly-axed

"On This Day" November 28 (1989) -Don Howe was named Acting Manager (or Acting First Team Coach) to replace the axed Trevor Francis.

Howe's First Game in charge? Crystal Palace Away. Also making his debut in that game: Ray Wilkins. Result? Crystal Palace QPR 3.

Followed by Wegerle's record signing and Les Ferdinand goals vs Chelsea

I distinctly remember the day Don Howe was appointed, reading it while doing my paper round and then accidently putting the paper through the wrong door.

Missed (again) by a couple of days...

One of those times - like when Gordon Jago replaced Les Allen, when appointing the #2 Worked out Brilliantly

(Of course completing the Signing of RAY WILKINS definitely helped..and Wegerle a few days later was a brilliant signing... But Wilkins was the Kingpin difference on the field)
