Robins Fails To See Wood For the Rswww.barnsley-mad.co.uk/news/loadnews.asp?cid=TMNW&id=472055By Rob Miles (Barnsley Boy) Tuesday, 10th November 2009 Wednesday defender snubs Reds for London side It is understood transfer listed Sheffield Wednesday defender Richard Wood has turned down a move to Barnsley and is set to move to promotion chasing Queens Park Rangers. Wood, 24, who has made 189 appearances for the Owls in six years was placed on the transfer list after refusing to sign a new deal at Hillsborough. Reds boss Mark Robins spoke with his Wednesday counterpart Brian Laws yesterday but Wood flatly turned down any hope of a move. It is now expected the defender will move to Loftus Road where manager Jim Magilton has been tracking the Hillsborough Academy graduate since he was in charge of Ipswich.

I somehow managed to delet my last post??! Weird!
I dont know much about this guy either, but can't help but feel that sigings like this (if true) and tommy williams aren't the type we should be signing at the moment, especially if we are hoping to be promoted this season. Maybe thats just my opinion.

Although I dont know too much about him, I do think he is pretty solid & one of the better Championship level centre backs, I think we need cover there; dont know what is happening with Connolly ( yes, he is a centre back, definately not a right back ), Stewart looks like he has got some sort of fitness issue / issues ? & Fitz Hall, well, Fitz Hall is a complete waste of space, but thats just my personal opinion. If we can get him cheap, then why not ? we need the cover, no two ways about it. I would like to see us bring another full back in, someone small & pacy, I dont think we need to do too much to the squad, if we lose Taarabt in January which is a possibility, then maybe a loan ? but then again we have players like Vine & Buzsaky who can clearly mix it with the best in this division.
Things are taking shape for QPR, but please, lets not have any mention of the "P Word" the last time people started giving it the extra large & started mentioning the "P Word" left, right & centre, we went & got properly turned over by Leicester, so please, it is my wish that none of us at least on this messageboard should mention the "P Word", it is patently bad luck for us as QPR fans to be behaving like this, we are asking for bad luck by the mere mention of the dreaded "P Word"
I would give us 8 out of 10 so far this season, very very good, Management of the team has been exceptional, players EG Mahon & Routledge have been excellent, possibly even some of the best football of their careers, only thing that concerns me, is the defence, but overall, I am quietly confident, we are definately where we want to be, we are going to be involved in this division all season.

Gorkks, Stewart, Hall, Connolly, Ramage/Leigertwood in pinch, do we really need another option at CB or does it mean we're moving somone on?

Hopefully, wishful thinking, waste of space will be moving on, but in reality, no one will pay the waste of space wages that he somehow "earns".
Has anyone got an E-Mail address for Notts County ?

Dear Mr Eriksson,
In your esteemed position of director of football at Notts County, I would like to point you in the direction of Mr Waste Of Space, having played at the highest level this is exactly the sort of calibre player you must be looking at after Sol Campbells absence, you will be happy to learn that he is criminally overpaid & hence will probably hoodwink some of your supporters for a month or so, please take this waste of space of our hands, I believe that your club is actually a ridiculous enough proposition to sign such a player.
Yours sincerely
A QPR Fan.

Or Coventry! The Star (South Yorkshire) - WOOD HEADS TO COVENTRY: 11 November 2009 By Paul Thompson RICHARD Wood could be set to join Coventry within the next fortnight. The Sky Blues are understood to favour a loan move with a view to a full transfer in January. A loan would have to be completed before the Football League's loan window closes on November 26. An early deal would suit the Owls though they are also waiting to see what offers come in so they can get the best possible price for the transfer-listed centre half. Notts County made an inquiry last week but it is understood that Coventry's interest is stronger and this is no surprise as they made an unsuccessful bid for Wood last year. Wednesday want to negotiate a deal whereby the 24-year-old would go out on loan as soon as possible and then bring in a fee from the signing club in January when the next full window opens. Not only are Coventry known to be keen on Wood but there are rumours that he would favour a move to the Ricoh Arena. With no Championship games until November 21, it looks increasingly likely that Wood has played his last game for the Owls, who rejected his contract demands and put him on the list. He was booed by fans when he went on as a sub in last Saturday's game against QPR, and the Owls have recently switched to a new centre-back partnership of Richard Hinds and Lewis Buxton. Coventry recently signed another centre half, Leon Barnett, on loan from West Brom, but this did not mean that they had dropped their long-standing interest in Wednesday's former captain. It is also understood that while Coventry could be open to some kind of swap deal, the Owls would only be interested in a straight sale. Brian Laws has already said that he hopes he now has sufficient centre-back strength to improve a different area of his team. He is also looking at extending Luke Varney's loan. www.thestar.co.uk/sportheadlines/WOOD-HEADS--TO-COVENTRY.5812947.jp

Yorkshire Post Wood rules out Barnsley and Notts County, leaving Coventry and QPR in race Date: 12 November 2009 SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY have rubbished reports that transfer-listed defender Richard Wood has joined Notts County. Although the wealthy League Two club have made an enquiry about the player, Coventry City are favourites to secure his signature with QPR also in the race. Barnsley expressed an interest but Wood appears to have ruled out a move to Wednesday's South Yorkshire rivals. www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/football/Wood-rules-out-Barnsley-and.5818333.jp

Referring to my earlier post about us not aiming higher for players Reports lastest post here kind of proves my point, with Notts County trying to sign this guy.
Why are we not ever seen to be trying to sign players who might even be too good for our team? We should aim higher than Richard Wood,
hahaha that name still makes me chuckle

"... The Wednesday boss also said that, despite speculation that QPR want Richard Wood, no inquiry had been received from the London club for the defender. The Star /South Yorkshire WEDNESDAY have been considering a loan move as a way of sharpening up Akpo Sodje for a return to Championship action. Brian Laws believes that both the Owls and the player would benefit, and the Hillsborough boss has received an inquiry from a League One club. If an immediate move could be hurried through, it would enable Sodje to get in a game tomorrow while Wednesday are kicking their heels because of the international break, though time appeared to be running out for that plan today. Nevertheless, Laws feels that the striker needs games to help him get back to his best. He has had a long run on the bench this season after coming back from injury, and the Owls have relied largely on a partnership between Marcus Tudgay and on-loan Luke Varney. Laws said: "We need Akpo to get some games under his belt, score a few goals, get back on track and regain that tempo - he has been lacking that a bit. "It could do him the world of good to go on loan for 28 days and come back fit and on fire." Laws would want to make sure that the club was the right one for the player. The Wednesday boss also said that, despite speculation that QPR want Richard Wood, no inquiry had been received from the London club for the defender.Sodje has refused to be disheartened by his injury problems of the past or his wait for a first-team comeback - vowing to be patient and wait for his chance. It is almost a year to the day since he started a League game - the 3-0 defeat at Derby. He was hit by hamstring problems but worked through the summer to clear up the problem and has been a regular in the match squad since mid-August. www.thestar.co.uk/sportheadlines/Owls-eye-loan-move-to.5822140.jp

If this whole story isn't just an agent trying to get his soon to be out of contract client a new deal I'd be very surprised. He's an average player and certainly no better than the five centre halves we already have. Saying "bg spending" QPR are interested may inflate price and interest. If we are interested we bloody shouldn't be.
