A CLUTCH of Premier League, Serie A, and La Liga representatives will be present at the Deva Stadium tomorrow night, when England under-16s entertain Northern Ireland in a Victory Shield international.
The main subject of the interest is 14-year-old Queens Park Rangers striker Raheem Sterling, who has been described by one pundit as the next Theo Walcott.
The head of QPR youth development Steve Gallen enthused: “He is very popular with his team mates, and has bags of potential.”
City secretary Tony Allan, who has been handling the inquiries for tickets from the multi millionaire clubs, said: “The interest in the game has been tremendous. A number of players who will more than likely progress to the top level will be on show, and it has all the makings of an extremely exciting evening.
“To be invited to stage a prestigious international match like this is a tremendous honour for Chester City, everybody connected with the club is looking forward to it.”
The Victory Shield, which has been contested since 1919, is a four-nation competition involving England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.
Tomorrow’s game, which will be televised live by Sky Television, kicks off at 7.40pm. Admission is £5 for adults, and £1 for concessions.
Meanwhile, Chester’s newly-formed City Fans United have launched an exciting initiative in an attempt to persuade local youngsters to follow the club.
Junior Blues has been formed by the fans group. The chairman of the section Dave Cartwright said: “We want to see the kids of Chester wearing Chester City shirts and scarves not those of Premier League giants.
“We wish to secure the next generation of fans for Chester FC. Everyone who joins the junior blues will be joining a fun organisation which offers great value, great days out, and lots of enjoyment.”
