QPR Official Site Date: 20/10/2009 Venue: Attendance: 11,900 Ten-man Rangers put on a superb performance to overcome Reading in front of a partisan Loftus Road crowd. The R's task looked to be somewhat of a struggle when Ben Watson was harshly sent off for a second bookable offence on the half hour, with referee Mr Hall appearing to show him a yellow card for attempting to take a free-kick too quickly. But it mattered little, as Akos Buzsaky's free-kick from the next attack put Jim Magilton's men a goal to the good. And things got all the better thereon in, as Jay Simpson smashed home a second just before half time, following an outstanding passing move. Ivar Ingimarsson's mistimed challenge on Simpson saw him pick up a second yellow and resultant red at the start of the second half, providing Rangers with another almighty boost. And when Rowan Vine blasted home soon after, the writing was all but on the wall for the Royals. Patrick Agyemang added a fourth with a fine individual goal soon after, and although Brian Howard notched late on for the visitors, it was a mere consolation. After Saturday's mouth-watering display at the expense of Preston North End, Jim Magilton unsurprisingly made a limited number of changes for the clash with Reading - just one in fact. That swap came in midfield, where Watson replaced Gavin Mahon in the middle of the park. Radek Cerny - was presented before the game with the Puma Golden Glove by Les Ferdinand for his clean sheets last term - started in goal for the R's. At the back, Peter Ramage and Gary Borrowdale occupied the full-back berths, while stand-in skipper Damion Stewart lined-up alongside Kaspars Gorkss in central defence. In midfield, Adel Taarabt and Buzsaky began down the flanks alongside Alejandro Faurlin and of course, Watson. Wayne Routledge partnered Jay Simpson in attack. As you can imagine, that super 4-0 defeat of North End at the weekend was still fresh on the mind of many of the R's players. So with that, there was no surprise to see Rangers out of the traps so quickly. And after Simpson had won a free-kick around 25-yards out, Faurlin's effort was comfortably saved by Adam Federici in the Royals' goal. It was the R's first opportunity in what was a tight opening 10 minutes. Rangers though, were beginning to look dnagerous in attack. Taarabt, in truth, should have done better than to fire straight at Federici from close range when found out wide by Routledge soon after. Moments later, the visitors had their first chance of the game, but when Jobi McAnuff beat Ramage out wide, he could only blast low into the side netting. To say that this was a tight affair was an understatement, though Rangers still looked the more likely of the two sides to break the deadlock. Watson, after being played in by Taarabt, was unlucky when only a forest of legs on the edge of the area prevented his shot from troubling the Royals' goalkeeper. And if the Wigan loanee was unfortunate with that - he couldn't believe his hard luck when shown his marching orders on the half hour. The Wigan loanee decided to take a quick free-kick, only for Mr Hall to bemuse everyone when he brandished a second booking - claiming that the free-kick was taken without his permission. Incensed, the Rangers faithful needed someone to do something special if they were going to now take an advantage in the match - so up stepped Buzsaky in the 31st minute. The Hungarian international, arguably in the best form of his career, sent home a low, curling shot into the bottom left-hand corner of the net, and Loftus Road was rocking. And Magilton didn't relent, continuing to play two men up front. Rangers were starting to show that they were made of strong stuff and incredibly, soon after their first goal, the R's were two goals to the good. Buzsaky - scorer of the R's opener - played an exquisite pass out wide on the right to Routledge, and the rest was poetry in motion in the 39th minute. Passes interchanged back and forth, with Cerny and Gorkss involved at one stage, but when play quickly switched to the other end, Routledge played a high, looping ball into the box to Simpson and the young striker made no mistake to fire home from for six yards. The R's could have been three goals to the good, but after some trickery from Taarabt out wide, Routledge could only straight at Federici in the Reading goal. Reading gave the home some something to think about before the break when Simon Church's free-kick hit Cerny's right-hand post, but that effort went to safety. As the teams re-emerged after the break, many a person would have predicted a Reading backlash in the second period - but their task was made all the harder when they too went down to 10 men 80 seconds into the half; Ingimarsson seeing red for a poor late tackle on Simpson. Reading didn't give up though and when McAnuff found Long, his header flew just over. Mindful of an injury Simpson picked up after that collision with Ingimarsson, Magilton decided to replace him with Vine - and it was a change that gave Rangers some fresh impetus. Indeed, Taarabt was unlucky not to find the net when firing his shot just over from outside the area. Buoyed by that opportunity, Rangers went searching for another goal - and Vine should have found the target on two separate occasions when fed by Routledge. Open at the back, Reading were giving the home side countless space, and Taarabt again shot just over from a Routledge cross. It was space that helped Rangers notch a third in the 71st minute. Taarabt played a short ball on the edge of the box to substitute Vine and the striker made no mistake, drilling home into the bottom left-hand corner. And if the points weren't already safe, they were in the 83rd minute. Agyemang rounded the Reading goalkeeper and tapped home, after a superb through ball from Gavin Mahon. Howard did add a late consolation for the visitors, slotting home from close range in the 86th minute, but that was all it was to be, as Rangers extended their unbeaten home record in all competitions to 13 matches. QPR Official Site - MAGILTON: 'OUSTANDING TO A MAN' Posted on: Tue 20 Oct 2009 Jim Magilton insisted no praise could be too high for the R's, as Reading were put to the sword in emphatic style at Loftus Road. Rangers were reduced to ten men when Ben Watson was the recipient of a 'ridiculous' refereeing decision, but it mattered little, as goals from Akos Buzsaky, Jay Simpson, Rowan Vine and Patrick Agyemang condemned the Royals - who were also reduced to ten men - to a heavy defeat. "It's always difficult to replicate a performance like Saturday's but no praise can be too high for my team tonight," Magilton told www.qpr.co.uk. "To a man, they were outstanding. "Akos scored a simply magnificent free-kick, but the second goal is as good as you'll see - at any level of football." Magilton added: "We passed the ball fantastically well at times. "The players have raised the bar again tonight - but you don't win anything in October, and rest assured, I'm not getting carried away. "The old adage that you play as you train has never been truer. "We work very hard in the week and we're producing on matchdays, so I'm delighted." Despite the 4-1 victory, Magilton was baffled by Mr hall's decision to send Watson off for taking a quick free-kick, adding: "It's a crazy decision - ridiculous. "I think a referee of his experience should have provided a little bit of common sense. "Maybe just give him a stern ticking off, but the referee implied to our lads that there was an assessor in the stands and he'd be marked down if he didn't send him off. "But goals change game and the Buzsaky free-kick gave us a lift and we didn't look back from then." www.qpr.co.uk/page/TheGaffer/0,,10373~1832343,00.html

Reading Official Site
QPR 4 (Buzsaky 32, Simpson 39, Vine 73, Agyemang 83) Reading 1 (Howard 87)Reading suffered a heavy defeat at QPR this Tuesday night after a highly eventful game at Loftus Road.QPR went down to ten men on 32 minutes when Ben Watson was shown a second yellow for taking a free kick too quickly, but Akos Buzsaky then took the set piece legally and curled it right into the corner. Jay Simpson scored a crucial second goal soon after, and Simon Church then hit the post with a free kick just before half time. Incredibly, Reading were also reduced to ten men within ten seconds of the start of the second half, Ivar Ingimarsson dismissed. It was a huge blow not only in terms of losing our captain, but also because it threw out our gameplan, Brendan Rodgers having made two substitutions at half time in a bid to win the game. The game was then incredibly open, and Rowan Vine then Patrick Agyemang notched for the home side before Brian Howard scored a late consolation. QPR (4-4-2): Cerny; Ramage, Borrowdale, Gorkss, Stewart (c); Watson, Buzsaky (Mahon 65), Routledge, Faurlin; Simpson (Vine 54), Taarabt (Agyemang 75) Subs: Heaton, Hall, Alberti, Ainsworth, Agyemang Booked: Borrowdale (foul 24), Faurlin (foul 44) Sent off: Watson (two yellows; foul 19, taking free kick too quickly 31) Reading (4-4-2): Federici; Tabb (Howard HT) , O'Dea, Ingimarsson (c), Mills; Cisse (Sigurdsson HT) , Gunnarsson, Kebe, McAnuff; Church (Robson-Kanu 60), Long Subs: Hamer, Pearce, Karacan, Rasiak Sent off: Ingimarsson (fouls 38 & 46) Attendance: 11,900 Ref: A Hall First half The game started fairly even, and the most obvious talking point in the early stages was referee Hall's continual use of the whistle for even the most minor of supposed infringements. The home side were the first to chance their arm, Adel Taarabt shooting at goal after cutting in from the left but Adam Federici saving relatively easily. Then Jobi McAnuff did very well to cut in down the left hand side and work some space, but tried to shoot from an acute angle when perhaps he would have been better served finding a man in the middle. Both sides were having chances, and Ivar Ingimarsson got in a superb block on 18 minutes on the edge of his own box. Then Kalifa Cisse and Jimmy Kebe both had decent chances on the edge of the box but but couldn't keep their efforts down. Kebe was also very unfortunate to be pulled back for offside after Cisse put him in from a quick free kick. It looked a let off for the home side and Kebe would have been clean through. Right on the half hour the game reached a pivotal moment - and incredibly both sides had real reason to feel agrieved with the referee's decision. First of all, Rangers were awarded a highly, highly dubious free kick in a shooting position 25 yards out. As our players understandably questioned the decision, Ben Watson tried to take the free kick quickly, and was very harshly shown a second yellow card for his troubles. If we thought that dismissal would give us a lift, Akos Buzsaky stepped up and curled home a brilliant free kick to make it 1-0 to the home side. So ultimately Rangers had scored from a hugely questionable free kick - but went down to ten men at the same time. Eight minutes later it was 2-0. As Reading tried to press high up the pitch, Rangers worked the ball wide to Wayne Routledge. His cross into the box was a cracker, and Jay Simpson turned home a left footed volley right at the back post. Reading did all they could to rally, and just before half time Simon Church hit the outside of the post with a 20-yard free kick, home keeper Radek Cerny rooted to the spot. And there was still time for McAnuff to fire an effort just over the crossbar. Second half Brendan Rodgers made a double change at half time, but within ten seconds of the restart his gameplan was taken away from him. Ingimarsson slid in on Simpson, and referee Hall showed him a second yellow card. This challenge was probably a booking, but the earlier decision in the first half was very questionable - and our skipper had arguably only made two fouls all evening. So it was ten against ten, and Gylfi Sigurdsson saw an effort blocked soon after - then Shane Long headed over a very good chance from eight yards out. Rangers were always dangerous on the break, and Rowan Vine missed a great chance - then saw Federici make a good save from him a minute later. It had become incredibly open, and Kebe was our main man. He went on a superb run down the right, resulting in an almighty scramble inside the home area. Straight away though Rangers broke and Matt Mills had to put in a great block. Again Kebe went on a cracking run soon after, and once more Sigurdsson saw a shot blocked. Hal Robson-Kanu then tested Radek Cerny with a curling left-footed effort. Rangers were always dangerous on the break, and with 18 minutes left Vine made it 3-0 with a neat finish at the near post. Sigurdsson Patrick Agyemang almost found the net within seconds of coming on, and it needed a very good save from Shane Long to keep out the big striker as he bore down on goal. Reading were trying valiantly to get a goal, and Brian Howard forced Cerny to tip over from his very good effort. Then Long spurned another good chance, shooting over from eight yards after more Kebe excellence. It was a game where the ball was just going from end to end at will, and once more Sigurdsson had an effort blocked. FInally we had a consolation, Robson-Kanu doing well to find Howard, who finished very nicely high into the net. Then we had another effort blocked on the line, once more Kebe the provider. www.readingfc.co.uk/page/MatchReport/0,,10306~48276,00.html

WATSON SET FOR TWO MATCH BAN Posted on: Tue 20 Oct 2009 Ben Watson will serve a two match ban owing to the red card he received against Reading tonight (Tuesday). The Wigan loanee was sent off for two bookable offences, the second for taking a quick free-kick, and will now miss the R's forthcoming Championship fixtures against Derby County and Leicester City. The severity of Watson's suspension takes into account the fact that the midfielder also saw red against Swansea City at the start of the month www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~1832282,00.html

My heart sunk when Watson went for an early bath but there was no need to worry. The boys came up trumps although it has to be said Reading were truly shocking, but who cares? What a great way to break the Fakies hoodoo. Oh, the referee lived up to Clive's billing, a bloody joke.

My heart sunk when Watson went for an early bath but there was no need to worry. The boys came up trumps although it has to be said Reading were truly shocking, but who cares? What a great way to break the Fakies hoodoo. Oh, the referee lived up to Clive's billing, a bloody joke. A fantastic keystone cop of a game. Ref was dreadful, laughable and surely the assessor will shoot him. Buzz's freekick completely destroyed an ok looking Reading side until that point and turned them into a quivering mess. Simpson goal was excellent from a pinpoint Routledge cross and even at this point you knew there was no way back for Reading. When it was 10-10 the score could have been anything and the holy trinity of Buzz, Taarbt & Routledge were in their full pomp. I sat with two Reading fans and actually felt sorry for them by the end.

Cheers Adam and well played Juzzie. That clip didn't do the second goal any justice. It looked like a poor turn out last night but I didn't realise it was only 11,900. Not good.

"...[ T]his team have a glamour, sparkle and an exhilarating cutting edge" The Times - October 21, 2009
Queens Park Rangers leave Brendan Rodgers fearing for his future - Queens Park Rangers 4 Reading 1 Gary Jacob With white trainers in the high street and the teams warming up to American rock, the Eighties are truly back in fashion. For long periods last night, Queens Park Rangers captured the mood to perfection. Just like their illustrious predecessors that graced the top flight, this team have a glamour, sparkle and an exhilarating cutting edge. Their performance was epitomised by Akos Buzsaky’s wonderful free kick and Jay Simpson’s expertly taken volley, goals that came after they had been reduced to ten men. Both sets of fans taunted Brendan Rodgers, the Reading manager, with chants predicting that he would be sacked. His team are barely recognisable from the side that appeared in the Premier League two seasons ago and “Brendan’s Babes”, as they have been nicknamed in the local paper, are finding life too hot to handle. From near certainties for promotion last season, they face a battle to avoid League One. Rodgers admitted that only two league wins was a “horrendous” start to his tenure at the Madejski Stadium. “I will fight for my life,” the 36-year-old, who took over at Reading in June after seven months in charge of Watford, said. “Am I going to sit here and feel sorry? Will I hell. If I felt it was me \, I would go. I am not arrogant to think that if it is not working, I can stay in a job. I don’t feel under pressure, but I do worry. It was a bad night. “We have a massive task. I became a manager at 35 not because I was nice, but because of perseverance and determination. I want to give people the chance, but I can’t watch too much of that.” Reading were not troubled by QPR’s bright opening, but crumbled after conceding during a bizarre minute. Ben Watson, the QPR midfield player, received a second yellow card for taking a quick free kick, having been booked for a lunge on Shane Long a little more than ten minutes earlier. Buzsaky scored from the second attempt at the free kick, but the dismissal worked against Reading. They came close when Simon Church hit the post, but conceded a second when Wayne Routledge’s cross dissected the defence and Simpson volleyed in. Reading were reduced to ten men themselves when Ivar Ingimarsson received a second booking, for tripping Simpson just after half-time, and conceded twice more. Rowan Vine cut in to beat Adam Federici at his near post and Patrick Agyemang rounded the Reading goalkeeper to score their thirteenth goal in their past three home games. Brian Howard scored a consolation. Flavio Briatore, the QPR co-owner, sat in the directors’ box before celebrating with the players in the dressing room. “If we produce these performances in April, then the players have grasped it,” Jim Magilton, the manager, said. Reading Chronicle
Rodgers defiant in face of fans' backlash by Anthony Smith ROYALS boss Brendan Rodgers has told fans he is going nowhere in the aftermath of their Queens Park Rangers horror show. Reading supporters turned on their under-pressure manager during Tuesday night's 4-1 battering at Loftus Road. Rodgers was subjected to a torrent of abuse on the sidelines with travelling supporters chanting `you're getting sacked in the morning,' while singing Steve Coppell's name. Royals are just three points off the bottom of the Championship table with only two wins from 13 games. When asked if he feared for his job, Rodgers declared: "No, no. As I said to the players , `if it's about me, I go, no problem.' "If I felt it was me, I'd go, no question. But we need to reflect for a couple of days, and I need to reflect. "But I'm determined to get it right and our poor results make me more determined." However, he also admitted: "I understand football. I'm not naïve and stupid enough - it's about results. "As I said if there are many more performances like that out there it is going to be very, very difficult." Royals started brightly but fell behind in bizarre circumstances. Ben Watson was sent off for a second booking on 30 minutes for taking a free-kick too quickly. However, Akos Buzsaky curled the same free-kick inside Adam Federici's near post from 25-yards. The visitors then lost their confidence and composure as Jay Simpson volleyed home Rangers' second on 39 minutes. Rodgers' plans were also thrown into chaos just seven seconds after the restart when skipper Ivar Ingimarsson was sent off. He was already booked when he clattered into Simpson right under card-happy referee Andy Hall's nose, and will now miss Monday's home game against Leicester. Substitutes Rowan Vine (71) and Patrick Agyemang (83) then netted for 4-0 leaving Royals' Brian Howard to score a consolation three minutes from time. By then Royals fans had made their feelings clear, and Rodger said: "It was a tough night. I can understand the reaction. I've never experienced that but I've always been taught to fight, but it's been difficult. I'm not worried. Better managers than me have had lots of stick. "It's not nice but can you blame them? We were poor. But it just makes me more determined. "We've had a horrendous start. But what people maybe don't understand is it's a massive task here. My ambition at the beginning of the season was to be up there, but the reality is it's a very difficult job - all the best players have left. "There are good, honest guys here and it's my responsibility. I want to give people a chance but I can't watch too much of that." And he added: "I'm a supporter and I'm disappointed. I stand in their shoes as well because I have a feeling for the club. "But my determination is greater than ever. I will fight for my life." FOURTH-placed Middlesbrough sacked manager Gareth Southgate following Tuesday's 2-0 win over Derby. www.readingchronicle.co.uk/sport/readingfc/articles/2009/10/21/42304-rodgers-defiant-in-face-of-fans-backlash/

The Sun BRENDAN RODGERS is already living in the shadow of the axe. Both Reading and QPR fans chanted: "You'll be sacked in the morning," as Rodgers' Royals slumped to fourth-bottom. And it was all too easy for rampant 10-man Rangers as they moved to within four points of the summit with a third straight home win. Rodgers, who only replaced Steve Coppell at the Madejski in June, knows he is staring down both barrels after two wins in 13 games. He said: "I'm not arrogant enough to say that if it is ]not right then I can stay on. I can understand the fans. Of course it's not nice but can you blame them? "We were poor. If I felt it was me I'd go but we need to reflect for a couple of days. What happened tonight makes me more determined. "We've sold our best players and been left with good honest guys but I can't have too much more of that. "Many more like that then it's going to be very difficult." Rodgers' side kept Rangers at bay for half-hour. Then QPR midfielder Ben Watson wanted to take a free-kick quickly and was shown a red card for a second bookable offence. But Akos Buzsaky stepped up and crashed in the dead ball from 30 yards. Although a man down, Rangers grew in confidence and Wayne Routledge's deep cross was half-volleyed home by Jay Simpson six minutes before the interval. Within seconds of the re-start Reading's Ivar Ingimarsson was sent off for a second bookable offence after fouling Simpson. Pacy Rangers kept up their momentum and subs Rowan Vine on 71 minutes and Patrick Agyemang 12 minutes later made it 4-0. Brian Howard came off the bench to grab a consolation four minutes from time. Advertisement Rangers boss Jim Magilton had sympathy for Rodgers. He said: "I've been there. I got it and it was horrific. It's not nice but a manager has to carry the can. He'll be up all night thinking about it. "I thought our sending off was an horrendously poor one. It needed more commonsense from the referee. "We've been scoring lots of goals at home and it's through confidence that they are flowing. We're showing a real positiveness." Yann Tear - London Informer
Another stroll for goal-happy QPRQPR 4-1 Reading BEN WATSON picked up his second red card in successive matches – but Rangers cruised to the easiest of home wins against a sorry Reading. Goals from Akos Buzsaky, Jay Simpson and subs Rowan Vine and Patrick Agyemang made it three wins in a row at Loftus Road and 13 goals for the Championship's home entertainers. Things looked very different after half an hour when Rangers appeared to have been condemned to playing with 10 men for an hour after Watson picked up his second yellow card in the space of 10 minutes. But Royals defender Ivar Ingimarsson got his marching orders for his second card a minute into the second half for a foul of Simpson. That evening-up of the numbers took the sting out of the sense of grievance Rangers felt at Watson's exit. There could be few arguments over the first yellow the on-loan midfielder picked up for a foul on Shane Long, but his second, apparently for taking a free-kick before the referee had signalled he could do so, was officialdom at its very worst. Andrew Hall can hardly have given a harsher red card in his life and for Watson, just back after serving a one-match suspension for a dismissal in his last game at Swansea, it was a bewildering moment that must have left him wondering which footballing god he had offended. But rather than crumble under a sense of injustice, Rangers instantly roused themselves to sweep into a 2-0 lead before the break. First Buzsaky superbly curled in the free-kick that Watson was punished for taking – finding a perfect dipper over the wall and into the bottom corner. Then, a glorious sweeping move on 39 minutes ended with Simpson volleying in at the far post from close range after Wayne Routledge, collecting a perfect pass on the right flank from Buzsaky, angled in the most inviting of crosses behind the Reading rearguard. That collective swelling of pride from up a pumped-up Rangers was embellished by the ultra-confident trickery of Adel Taarabt. The gloved Moroccan was still on a high after his dazzling solo effort in the 4-0 thumping of Preston at the weekend and he was in the mood to torment a sorry Reading, who appear to be in freefall after their Premier League highs of yesteryear. It was not all showboating from Taarabt though and he nearly got Rangers off the mark after eight minutes when he slipped past a defender and fizzed a goalbound shot that Royals keeper Adam Federici did well to turn aside. Routledge was also in inspired form and twice set up half chances for Vine and had an abundance of pace and desire to beat players. It was good to watch. Simon Church clipped a free-kick against a post for Reading before the interval, but it was a rare moment of danger from the Berkshire outfit. Brian Howard's 86th minute consolation hardly mattered. Vine drilled in Rangers' third at the near post following a quickly taken corner on 71 minutes – a product of very slack defending – and more goals might have followed. Agyemang managed to fashion a one on one within a minute of coming on, only to be thwarted by the keeper. But the striker made amends on 83 minutes when he raced onto Gavin Mahon's through ball and rounded the keeper to score. Line up: Cerny; Ramage, Stewart, Gorkss, Borrowdale; Bazsaky (Mahon 66), Faurlin, Watson, Taarabt (Agymang 76); Routledge, Simpson (Vine 53). Subs not used:Heaton, Hall, Alberti, Ainsworth. Evening Standard We're on the up, says Akos Buzsaky Andrew Fifield 21.10.09 Akos Buzsaky believes Queens Park Rangers are a Premier League team-in-waiting after they delivered another four-star display against Reading last night. Rangers shrugged off the effect of Ben Watson's first-half red card - his second in three matches - and took their goal tally to 13 in the last three home games thanks to strikes from Buzsaky, Jay Simpson, Rowan Vine and Patrick Agyemang. No wonder embattled co-owner Flavio Briatore visited the dressing room after the 4-1 victory to congratulate the squad. Manager Jim Magilton has transformed the Hoops into a formidable attacking outfit and Buzsaky believes the club's range of striking options means they are genuine promotion contenders. "Premier League teams rely on their creative players and we are the same," the Hungarian midfielder said. "We are a smaller version in the Championship, but we have a lot of good players who can keep the ball forever. "Everyone is enjoying themselves at the moment. We have good players here who can play attractive football." Watson's red card was the only sour note. The on-loan Wigan midfielder, who had already been booked for a clumsy foul, was harshly shown a second yellow by referee Andy Hall for taking a free-kick too quickly. www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-sport/football/article-23759097-were-on-the-up-says-akos-buzsaky.do?

Ok, a few words about last nights performance: Inept, pathetic, useless, clueless, terrible and an absolute travesty of a joke. Now that takes care of the 'referee' I can enthuse about another superb Rangers performance. One I have been waiting on for a very long time now! Ever since I first travelled to Readings old stadium and stood there trying not to move that much as the terrace literally crumbled beneath my feet if I jumped around suddenly I have had an absolute dislike for little Reading FC. I did not know that much about them until our relegation from the Premiership and a resurgent Reading were in our division and they became a staple in the fixture list. The fact that they too wore the Hoops was at first quite funny as I used to think, 'Ah! They are just copying us because they want to be like us' but when they started to beat us all the time and then went up that really stopped being funny! It's been a long time since Reading bought numbers down to QPR as we have been seperated by a division, but the day they sang 'your not fit to wear the Hoops' after trouncing us at home, again, has lived with me deep down ever since and has annoyed me ever since (the fact that they happened to be correct that day did not help to much either!). Ever since then I have been looking to put one over on Reading and last night I turned up to the ground nice and early with a nervous anticipation that I was about to have my cake and eat it too! However things did not start very well as when I arrived in the W12 restaurant 45 mins. before kick off, the lamb shanks were not cooked yet and I had to wait for almost 30mins. for my meal which meant that when I did get it I had to wolf it down and therefore did not get any opportunity to sample the double chocolate marble cake! I immediately took this as an omen that the night might not turn out the way I was hoping especially so since one of the other members did not bring his daughter owing to it being a school night and her first games were Barnsley and then Preston, so our lucky little mascot was not there as well. It was with a sense of almost pure worry when I sat down in my seat that Reading were about to turn their season around and I wouldn't be able to stand up and sing 'Your not fit....' come 90 mins. as I had dreamed about doing for ages! (I really dislike Reading) For the first 30 mins. Rangers did nothing to allay my fears. We looked laboured and slightly unsure of ourselves on the ball though we were quick in the tackle and defensively very good. Going forward we were a bit mish mash as we struggled to find our slick pass and move game that Magic and The Gorm have bought to the club. Then inexplicably the 'ref' sent Watson off for instinctively reacting to Tarrabt's movement and taking the free kick quickly. To everyones astonishment the 'ref' simply turned round and sent Watson off for a second yellow card offence. Apparently he was bullied into the dcision by simply having someone in the stands watching him and he was too scared to make his own decision according to the nature of the offence. Incredulous. However this actually turned the game for us! Buzsaky immediately took a free kick of such sublime quality that the moment it left his foot I was already in the air both fists pumping celebrating the ball as it crossed the line as it was so surely a goal the moment it left his foot. Pure class. This seemed to take a bit of the pressure of us as we then relaxed and exploited the space caused by being a man down and settled into our game. Now we were head and shoulders above Reading who harried and tried to close us down but when we play like we have been lately then sometimes the other team simply can't cope. This was displayed none more so with our second goal. Cerny layed the ball out, I think to Buz who immediately drove forward at pace, sent Routledge off on a run down the wing with a great pass, who in turn crossed it perfectly into the path on an onrushing Simpson who watched it the whole way and drilled past the keeper with a superb volley all at a pace that simply blew Reading away. As far as team goals are concerned over individual effort that was a goal of the season contender and one that will live in my memory for a very long time. Beautiful to watch and a joy to apprieciate. We continued to pass the ball around Reading as the half wore down and looked in complete control despite being a man down. Magic and The Gorm have really instilled a sense of belief into the squad that has been lacking recently. The teams assured passing and movement coupled with an almost expectancy that when we go forward we are going to score is down to them and so far I think they are doing an incredible job. In the second half Reading immediatley surrendered their only advantage and had a man quite rightly sent off, for a late scything tackle on Simpson. If Vinnie Jones was in the stands, he would of appreciated it. This let QPR open up the game even more as we now passed the ball around with impunity and just kept running at the Reading defense at pace and with intent. By the time Vine came on for Simpson, who took a knock in that earlier challenge, the game was pretty much sown up and for sheer percistance alone Vine deserved his goal along with Agymang who took his superbly, actually putting their keeper on his arse with a body swerve before slotting home confidently. Again, a dominant performance at home and with the players and management we have got I see no reason not to do the same away. Bring on the Rams! Cerny: Superb once more in the saves department and obviously a class above most keepers in our league. Still sometimes puts us under pressure by rolling the ball out instead of kicking it and needs to be more vocal on set pieces. Ramage: Had a quiet game as Reading did not have much to offer in way of troubling him, but even so was beaten too easily when Reading did get the ball out wide and unfortunately I don't think he has claimed his position back and will probably be dropped when Legs is fit again. A shame as he puts in the effort and respects the fans greatly. Borrowdale: 'Oh Gary Gary' played his usual solid game of putting in the tackles and showed nice touches and distribution going forward. Got the support needed from the midfield, particulary from Routledge and even though could improve in stopping the winger more, he has slotted into the team nicely after his strange start to his Rangers career. Gorkss and Stewart: Immense. Again. Won most of their headers, positionally were spot on all night, solid and dependable in the tackle. Everpresent in the box blocking shots and at times passed the ball out of defense around the Reading players. These two are having an amazing season at the moment and despite the outfield players making the headlines these two are leading us from the back. Superb. Again. Mahon: OK, just for a laugh, but I want to see who is with me on this: Instead of sending Watson back, we go down the carpet shop, buy an off-cut of some dodgy 70's orange carpet, glue it to Mahon's head and send him back to Wigan! I doubt Gomez would notice at first! Of course we would swap back because right now I'm picking Mahon ahead of Watson, as he, at the moment, is as good and doesn't get sent off for stupid things! Faurlin: is a Rangers man. Thankyou to Flabio and co. and also Gianni for this gem. Assured passing all night with an air of confidence that was missing at first and a serious asset in the side. Sort out the dead rat that presently lives on his head and he's perfect! Routledge: Don't tell him this as I can see his ego does not need any more inflating but I am starting to call him King Routledge! His performances deserve that plaudit at the moment as he is playing so well, as he has done all season, that now the rest have caught up he will lead the way. Brilliant out of position playing up front and devastating in midfield for the opposition. Still first name on the team sheet for me. I wonder if he was as surprised as I was that there is a proffesional footballer smaller than him as Reading had last night, but that is irrelavent! Buzsacky: Brilliant free kick and always looked purposeful with the ball. Came back and picked the ball up, pulling the strings in the midfield effortlessly and overall put in a commanding performance. Was taken off with Saturday in mind as he picked up a slight knock and actually looked quite tired after the huge effort he had put in. Grudgingly turning into my favourite player, even though I am to old to have a favourite player as I grew out of that sort of thing years ago! Taraabt: First class again. Simply sit back and enjoy the guy whilst he is here. He passes the ball beautifully and can seriously destroy the opposition with his ability but whether or not he wants to play for us seems to be a different matter. I'll appreciate what he does in a Rangers shirt of course, but he should realise that Cantona, Zidane and Ronaldo (the girly one not the beaver looking one) were all replaced when they left their respective clubs and the football star is a media creation and not a view neccessarily shared by the fans. Head down son, concentrate on your football and DO NOT talk to reporters. Simpson: Getting better as the games progress. Has established himself with the team and also now beginning to with the fans in a short space of time for a young player. Obviously has oodles of class and took his goal superbly which was an incredibly difficult piece of skill to pull of so emphatically. Slowly turning into the predator we need and surrounded by the talent that could get him 15+ goals this season. Vine: Great movement and convinced me that he was never going to score after missing two good chances following great runs into the box to get on the end of the two crosses and when he had one ruled out for offside I thought he couldn't buy a goal! Then all of a sudden bang, back of the net and Vine, finally, is back. Now he's off the mark and the teams on form so I hope he will really kick on from here. Agymang: Great goal and had a few other moments where the final pass to him was just snuffed out after he had made a great run. As an impact player almost perfect and one of our best assets on the bench. Rangers last night left me speechless. I just sat back and with a broad grin, thanks to my dentist and simply enjoyed the football. It's been a long time since I have done that and for the Leicester game I'm getting there well early as right now every Rangers fan, to a man, after what we have been thru for the past 10 years or so, not only deserves their cake but to eat it too! In the end I didn't sing to the Reading fans as by the time the final whistle went it was obvious that that would have been kicking a man when he is down and so I left feeling happy that in my world at least parity has gone some way to being restored!

Welcome to the board Alison You're right it was a terrible decision. That ref is a bloody joke. Nice report Mark. Magic and The Gorm also deserve credit for scouting Faurlin in the first place.

Great read Mark, splendid stuff and echo the sentiments re Reading although my confusion with them started in about 1963 ish. We were at home but I was not aware in those days the home team changed in the event of a clash. i cheered on the wrong team for fully 45 minutes and was adamant that about 500 people all around me were winding me up! ;D
I echo zed's welcome, Alison, enjoy the board. ;D

I didn't know the home team changed colours in the event of a clash. What year did that rule change?
