QPR are plotting a £1.5million January move for Leeds United's prolific striker Jermaine Beckford.
The 25-year-old has yet to sign a new deal at Elland Road and looks set to leave Yorkshire on a free transfer next summer.

United boss Simon Grayson is reluctant to let the London-born forward leave for nothing at the end of the current campaign but knows that letting Beckford go in January could spell disaster for his side's bid to climb out of League One.

Magilton wants to bolster his strike force once the transfer window re-opens at the turn of the year.
Sportsmail revealed last week that the Rangers manager is also eyeing a move for Wigan's out-of-favour striker Marlon King.
Rangers hope to do a deal for Beckford in January but are prepared to wait until the end of the season when he is available on a free.
But if at all possible the west London club want to avoid what will become a transfer scramble for Beckford next summer by nabbing him at the start of 2010.
Premier League hopefuls Newcastle are interested, while Bolton are also monitoring Beckford's situation and the prospect of top-flight football next season could be the major factor in where the forward ends up.

Can't see it happening not for £1.5m. Leeds would be better off not selling him in Jan and letting him walk for free at the end of season. If his goals can get them promoted, the promotion is worth much more than £1.5m.

I agree. Especially since if Leeds do go up, Beckford may be happy to stay at Leeds (a bigger club than QPR). On the other hand, this is good for the "QPR are trying to buy players" theme.

Leeds United: Whites cool on Becks deal

Leeds United say Jermaine Beckford's contractual position at Elland Road remains "unchanged" amid talk that QPR plan to bid for the striker in January.
The Championship club have been heavily linked with a move for Beckford in the forthcoming transfer window, and the 25-year-old's future is as unclear as ever with his dwindling deal at Elland Road yet to be extended.

Contract talks between Leeds and Beckford broke down during the summer, leaving the forward on the transfer list for several weeks, and United are not believed to be in active discussions with his agent, Nick Rubery.

Leeds are presently running the risk that Beckford will leave Elland Road on a free transfer when his existing three-year deal – signed in October 2007 – expires in June of next year, a gamble the League One club opted to take before the start of this season by reversing their decision to transfer-list him.

United's board were understood to have subsequently rejected offers from Coventry City and Sheffield United, while West Bromwich Albion were also seriously interested in signing the striker for around £2million ahead of the 2009-10 term, and Leeds remain adamant that Beckford will not be sold before the end of this season, regardless of whether an agreement is reached over a new deal.
