He had blood poisoning which led to Gangrene in one of his legs, the leg had to be amputated. After that he went down hill very quickly. He also suffered from very high blood pressure causing all sorts of problems. Who are you ?

I have been an R's supporter since 1957 and have often heard the question what would the subsequent history of QPR FC have been like if Jim Gregory had not taken over in the 1960's
Answer Like Brentford!

We would settle for that right now! But Gregory was an old fashioned type Chairman, he brought the first real glory to the club. Can it really be 25 years?

We would settle for that right now! But Gregory was an old fashioned type Chairman, he brought the first real glory to the club. Can it really be 25 years? Like Kerrin's I am a 1957 man (September) hence "57 Varieties" being the first of several different user names I have used over the years to post to this board. Gregory was certainly not my favourite character and while these days he would be an old fashioned type Chairman, in his time he was probably one of a new breed in the right place at the right time. Did he bring success - well I suppose so for appointing Alec Stock, ground improvements and things off the pitch. But then I would say our first success was equally down to Stock and the players he introduced. Through out our history - or at least the 66 years I can remember - we have have always been a club of "what if's". Far too many to list but it has always felt that we have had more "what if's" than most other clubs. Maybe that is not the case and just that I was unaware of what happened behind the scenes at other clubs. But what if decisions on the ground had been taken differently, what if Stock and Jago had not departed, what if Martin Busby had not been crocked by Thug Went or if Marsh had not missed half of our first trip to League One (now PL) That's the beauty and despair of being a QPR fan for life. So many things or even individual games that could have changed our history. I remember a night in Athens ............ I should have kept a diary .

Chairman back then were 'owners' and they did what they wanted. Briatore was in many ways a flashback to such days - it is my club and I will do what I like. Gregory did develop the stadium and 1967 was one hell of a year on the pitch. But the biggest 'what if' has to be the White City Stadium. I used to go there for my annual London Schools Sports day and then go regularly to watch the speedway there. I only ever remember watching the football from a very long way away, being fascinated by the greyhound track, running track and then some grass in the distance......but if only we had acquired and developed the site. Alec Stock was a gentleman - and I think was the source of the parody on the Fast Show. By the end of his term, he was probably past his sell be date, but a sad day when he left. We have had some good managers and Jago was one of the best.

From the QPR Official Site - September 26, 1998
FORMER CHAIRMAN AT REST
FORMER Rangers chairman Jim Gregory has died at the age of 70 after a long illness. He will be remembered as the man who built QPR up on and off the field.
Gregory joined the board at Loftus Road in November 1964 and was elected as chairman five months later.
In his 22 years with the R’s, he transformed the club from an average Third Division outfit to a top First Division side. Rangers became the first club in the country to build four new stands and almost won the League in 1975/6.
There will be a minute’s silence before Saturday’s home game against Grimsby as a mark of respect to Mr Gregory’s memory.

Although no angel himself, Jim Gregory would still be turning in his grave with the events of the last 11 years!! Add another 14 years to that. 23 years of destruction.
