England U19s Head Coach Noel Blake has named his squad for the game with Russia in Shrewsbury next month, as the Young Lions prepare for their European U19 Championship First Round qualifiers in October.
Blake has named an 18-man party which includes no fewer than six players who were part of the U19s squad which reached the final of the European U19 Championships in Ukraine this summer so their experience could well be crucial over the coming months.
Golden Boot winner Nathan Delfouneso, Matthew Briggs, Declan Rudd, Matthew James, Andros Townsend and Nile Ranger all played their part whilst still a year young last season and now they will be hoping to help England go one further in 2009-10.
Whilst most of the squad have represented England at either U16 and U17 level previously, there are first time call-ups for Wolves defender Scott Malone, Coventry City's Jordan Clarke and Crystal Palace's Nathanial Clyne as Blake hopes to look at all of his options before the qualifiers begin.
"This is the first time that a lot of this group of players have been together in 18 months, but I will also take the opportunity to have a look at one or two new players at this level," explained Blake.
"The process of looking at players continues but will also be on-going throughout the coming season, and the opportunity is there for players to put a marker down in my mind for those important qualifiers."
England face hosts Slovenia, Finland and Slovakia in their qualifiers between 9-14 October.
Tickets for the Russia game are just £3 in advance (£5 on the night) and £1 concessions. Charter Standard clubs can claim up to 50 free tickets while group bookings of 15 people plus works out at 50p per ticket.
