Swansea Official Site - Swans appoint Fuccillo as chief scout
Swansea City is pleased to announce the appointment of Lil Fuccillo as the club's new chief scout.
Fuccillo has left his post as chief scout at Newcastle United to take up the important position at the Liberty Stadium.
The former Luton Town and Peterborough player and manager will take over the post vacated by Kevin Reeves with immediate effect.
"We are absolutely delighted Lil has agreed to join us,'' confirmed Swans chairman Huw Jenkins. "His appointment is the missing link we've been trying to fill for the last few weeks.
"To secure the services of someone with Lil's knowledge, experience, contacts and network of scouts is a massive plus for the club.
"He will work closely with Paulo on player recruitment and match scouting.
"We realise the importance of the role and it was crucial we brought in the right person for the job.
"We believe we have now found that person and we will be looking for Lil to continue recruiting the right players to keep Swansea City moving forward.''
Pasquale 'Lil' Fuccillo was born in 1956 in Bedford to Italian parents and joined Luton Town from school.
Despite breaking his leg on two separate occasions, he still established himself in the first team and was part of the squad that won the Second Division title in 1982.
The following year he left the club due to a contractual dispute and played 19 games for the Tulsa Roughnecks in the North American Soccer League.
He returned to join Southend United and then Peterborough where he also had a brief spell as Posh caretaker manager in 1986-87.
Having been released during the summer of 1987, he played briefly in Malta before short spells at Cambridge United and Kettering Town.
He eventually returned to Peterborough in 1991 as assistant-manager to Chris Turner. When Turner moved upstairs as chairman, Fuccillo had an unsuccessful spell as manager before joining Barry Fry at Birmingham as a coach.
Then when Fry took over at Peterborough, Fuccillo went with him as his assistant until Fry was sacked.
Fuccillo then had spells as a scout for Sheffield Wednesday and as John Still's assistant at Barnet.
He eventually returned to Luton in 2000 as a scout before being promoted to assistant-manager to Ricky Hill.
When Hill was sacked shortly after, Fuccillo stepped into the managerial seat only for Joe Kinnear to take over himself when he moved in as Director of Football.
Fuccillo decided to concentrate his efforts as a scout after that and worked for Everton before becoming chief scout at Leicester City in November 2006 and then Newcastle in March 2008.
