Telegraph Blackburn close in on Michel SalgadoSam Allardyce is hoping Michel Salgado can perform the same role at Blackburn as Fernando Hierro did for him at Bolton. Right-back Salgado, 33, is in talks with Rovers over a surprise move after he left Real Madrid. And Allardyce has identified the player as being in the same mould as Hierro, another veteran Spanish defender who he signed on a short-term deal when manager at the Reebok Stadium. "But I would like to add Michel Salgado to that - I think that he's an outstanding player of world-class quality. "I think he will do a Fernando Hierro-type job for me, the same as Fernando did for me at Bolton. "He (Salgado) came for a test and the test was okay. It just lies with the financial side now which is hopefully going to be okayed by early next week." www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/blackburn/6025854/Blackburn-close-in-on-Michel-Salgado.html

Or Blackburn or West Ham...But I don't see QPR in the mix!Telegraph
West Ham and Blackburn in hunt for Real Madrid's Michel Salgado He may have a sister-in law who lives in York but that is unlikely to faze West Ham who, along with Blackburn, have emerged as front-runners in the chase to sign Michel Salgado from Real Madrid. The 33 year-old defender left Real Madrid after a successful decade at the Bernebeu but still feels he can contribute at the highest level. Salgado was at Ewood Park on Monday to discuss details of a free transfer before the new season starts. However, Sam Allardcye has already signed a right back this summer in the form of Danish international Lars Jacobsen which could keep West Ham's hopes alive of luring the Spaniard, who has played 250 times for his country, to London. Salgado said last week that it was a "privilege" to have worked with some of the best players in the world during his past decade. "I have to thank my partners because it was a privilege to work at their side, to share the dressing room with the best (players) in the world," he said. "I was to especially thank those who were close to me during these ten years: Raul, Iker, Guti and also Roberto Carlos, who is no longer with the team but who I shared many moments with, he is also the godfather of my daughter." "It is going to be really difficult to wear the jersey of another team, but now when I go home I still feel I can play football for a few years more and enjoy something that is my life." Real said that they and Salgado had "agreed to end their collaboration". The announcement followed news that the club have agreed to buy Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso from Liverpool. Salgado arrived at Real from Celta Vigo in 1999 and had a contract until 2011, but played little last season. www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/westham/6008743/West-Ham-and-Blackburn-in-hunt-for-Real-Madrids-Michel-Salgado.html

BBC Blackburn seal signing of Salgado Salgado played 53 times for Spain Former Real Madrid right-back Michel Salgado has signed for Blackburn. The 33-year-old, who has been capped 53 times for Spain, was available on a free transfer after Real cancelled his contract a year early. Salgado spent 10 years at the Bernabeu, winning two Champions League medals as well as a host of domestic honours. He has signed a two-year deal but will return to Madrid on Monday for a match in his honour while awaiting international clearance for Rovers. Speaking after signing his contract, Salgado said he turned down a move to Chelsea five years ago. "I had a chance to come to Chelsea but I was lucky too because my team was Real Madrid," he told the Blackburn website. "I love the club, I was there 10 years - it is a lifetime. I am proud of playing for them for so long. 606: DEBATE Should offer the bite we're sometimes lacking along with some composure on the ball, which we're frequently lacking! The Usurped R_o_t_R "Now I want to enjoy the next two years, playing in the Premier League. It is one of the best in the world. "Not only that it is pure football - fantastic games and a fantastic atmosphere. This will be a good experience for me, my wife and children. I have joined a historic club." It is something of a trademark move by Rovers manager Sam Allardyce, who gained a reputation while at Bolton for signing veteran players such as Youri Djorkaeff, Fernando Hierro and Ivan Campo. Blackburn lost their opening match of the Premier League season 2-0 to Manchester City. newsvote.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/b/blackburn_rovers/8209642.stm

And a year ago, today
Thursday, August 21, 2008 No Salgado at Loftus Road?-
Setanta/Laurent Picard - Parejo: Salgado not heading to England Real Madrid full back Michel Salgado will not be joining Queens Park Rangers according to fellow countryman Daniel Parejo, who exclusively spoke to setantasports.com.
Spanish defender Salgado, a close friend of QPR’s co-owners Flavio Briatore and Alejandro Agag, revealed he had dinner with the businessmen in order to discuss his future. The 32-year-old, at the Santiago Bernabeu since a decade, would be a tremendous addition to the London squad in terms of experience, but his former team-mate Parejo believes he does not plan to leave Real.
“I was with him but we didn’t speak about that topic together; I think he’s going to do the best for his career and I wish him good luck for the future,” Parejo told setantasports.com at QPR’s training grounds.
“I have no clue about his future, as I didn’t ask him about his plans. “What I know is that he’s happy playing for Real Madrid, the best team in the world, and everything he does is very well. “I have no idea whether he is going to hang up his boots there or not." Setanta
