Perhaps when for better or worse, QPR were more of a "family club"

NEW YORK MARATHON CHARITY RUN
Hi, our names are Simon Cox and Geraldine Field and we are taking part in the 1999 New York Marathon on 7th November.
We both work for Loftus Road plc, home of Queens Park Rangers F.C. and London Wasps R.F.C. and are running the event in the colours of Q.P.R. and London Wasps.
New York beware! The Loftus Road duo are in town!
We decided that we would raise money for Help Hammer Cancer based at Hammersmith Hospital. Hammer Cancer is currently providing much needed funds for research into Cancer and is part of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund.
Being a local hospital to our place of work, we both felt that we would be helping our local hospital and supporting the fight against Cancer. We have both lost family and friends through Cancer and aim to raise as much as possible.
Then we met Charlie Ward from Hanwell. Charlie is a bright enthusiastic four-year-old who is suffering from Cerebral Palsy. Up until Christmas, Charlie was unable to walk. Thanks to extensive physiotherapy, Charlie has proved doctors wrong and is now managing to move around.
He needs further physiotherapy to give him the best out of life and we are looking to raise money for Charlie to continue his physiotherapy for a few more months at least.
Neither of us has competed in a marathon before and we are both looking forward to the event.
Simon: "I'm not too sure about the flight to New York or the vast amount of pasta we both need to consume, but the actual event and the training is very exciting for the pair of us! It has given both of us a new purpose in life."
Both of us are having to sacrifice the home game against Manchester City to put ourselves through the pain of running 26 miles but it's all worth it.
Geraldine: "We were thinking about training with the players, but they'd only embarrass us by our lack of fitness and say we're mad!"
So, why have we sent this to YOU?
Well, as we mentioned above, we are trying to raise as much money as possible for these two worthy causes. Firstly, we are asking our friends, family, work colleagues and local people to sponsor us for the marathon. Sponsorship so far has ranged from £1 to £100 and the more we can raise the better.
Secondly, we are also looking to raise money through an auction sometime in September where we can auction off various valuable items to help raise money. Items being auctioned will, hopefully, include autographed footballs, theatre tickets etc, etc. The more items we can auction, the more we raise!
So where do YOU fit into this ?
What we would like to ask is whether you, or your company, would be kind enough to help us in our fundraising event by either donating an item towards our auction or by donating a small amount towards our fund.
You can either post your donations to either of us at the address below, or call either of us to arrange for us to collect from yourselves. If you would like to donate money towards our causes, then please make any cheques payable to "NEW YORK MARATHON ACCOUNT".
Thank you for spending the last two minutes reading this. We hope we have managed to persuade you to part with some of your hard earned cash and donate towards our worthy causes.
