I am surprised that this has been announced / agreed before a squad replacement had been secured - not the way we usually do things. I assume that there must have been some financial advantage to QPR for the termination, otherwise keep him as an option. Perhaps we paid off half his contract. But it does mean that the failed transfer in the summer has cost the club 3 months of his wages without an appearance - perhaps about £80k -£100k that we could ill afford. But the word is that his agent made crazy demands at the eleventh hour.

Thank heavens. How much did we pay for him? Shocking bit of business by the club that one whatever way you want to dress it up.

Thank heavens. How much did we pay for him? Shocking bit of business by the club that one whatever way you want to dress it up. Always hard to work out what we really paid for any signing. Add-ons, VAT, installments - spread over several seasons complicate and make it hard to detect even from the published accounts. Sky enjoy inflating all the prices. Transfer Market guess at most deals – but again are without any reference to the complexity of any deal. For example: Transfer Market say that we paid the following – Washington £3.3m, Dykes £2.2m , Bonne £2.2m and Kellman £200k. Washington and Bonne left for free, Kellman been out on loan or most of his tenure – at least Dykes has clocked up 100 games. Transfer Market also states that when we bought Bonne for £2.2m, his real value was £720k. But I have seen it reported that ‘all’ Bonne cost us was circa £1.25m – the rest was all add-ons and as he has only started ten games in over 2 years for us (with 34 substitute appearances) I doubt we triggered any more outlay. Of course, we also have the cost of the wages! Washington was the biggest financial loss and a great shame – but he is now back in the Championship playing for Rotherham and still only 30. There is still time for Kellman and we should at least get our money back on Dykes (unless he runs his contract down). But something went wrong with the scouting (and valuation) of Bonne. He plays off the shoulder (badly) and was forever offside. He did well at Ipswich, who have already stated that they will not be re-hiring him, even though he is now free. He may well enjoy purple patches of goal scoring again, but his inability to read a Championship back line correctly will mean that IMHO he will not make it in the Championship. Our signing of forwards leaves a lot to be desired though. www.transfermarkt.co.uk/macauley-bonne/profil/spieler/296577
