Hoped we would not see this for a couple of season but here we go again.
Top of my list are Critchley and Dyches - for completely opposite reasons that I am torn between.
Critchley as the younger guy with some experience and the reputation of developing through young players etc which seems to be our future hope.
Dyches he strong disciplined man who has been around the block a few times and achieved result even when he had little resources. Maybe getting in a strong manager who will not tolerate players not putting in the effort or not following instructions can add an edge to teh young talent we have at the moment - but that approach may risk losing them quickly if we do not turn things around soon.

Two very different options but can’t see Dyche coming. I would like it but think he waits for a bigger club. If club continue with DofF approach then I expect we again appoint a head coach rather than manager.
Critchley I don’t know too much about and is reality inexperienced. Looking at World Cup possibly the Canada coach now they are out or maybe really left field, Emma Hayes? A woman managing in men’s football will happen at some point and why not us first in England’s top 2 leagues, be a trailblazer as we are generally, and positively, leading the way in diversity within football as a club.

2 names I did not want to see linked. Parker and Ainsworth. No chance on Gerrard imo but it would be ironic.

The Rat has left the ship, so lets move on. I cannot see Dyche coming here either to be honest. I have no favourites as long as they stay for a year at least.

For the record i hope Rangers collapse in the league and MB is cast into the wilderness, or maybe has to get an honest job.

Interesting comments from the club that we are not starting the search for a new man from scratch and have been planning a succession. Probably knew this would happen after the Wolves approach and have been working behind the scenes- hopefully not tapping up people though.
Anyway what is done is done and I just hope the fans get behind the players and everyone still at the club and starting with the Burnley game become our 12th man again - the players will need all the support they can get.

From what Dave McIntyre has said the club knew it would happen, but hoped it would be later rather than sooner. This next bit isn't aimed at you, but it's easier than doing another separate post. I'd probably ignore most of the names on that list and every other list you see. 99% of them probably aren't even on the frame and some are just downright ridiculous. Dyche and Parker most definitely aren't coming, for starters.

Plus a read of Clive W's very lengthy analysis reveals much more of what basically comes down to outright lies and treachery by Beale. Personally I cannot see any of the names on that list coming, apart from maybe Ainsworth which I think would be the worst move we have made in many years. But it is just a speculative list of names pulled from a hat by the bookies to make some money, just as the list of names they produced to become the next Rangers (had to spit that out) coach.

someone just mentioned Pulis. I hope he was joking Sky Bet have put up quotes for 36 names - Pulis not among them. They have some incredible long shots even Neil Warnock or John (we know what you said) Terry or Joey Barton at 33/1. Their odds on favourite is Critchley at 4/11 followed by Chris Wilder at 6/1 Dyche at 12/1 and Parker at 14/1. An interesting one in the up and coming Beale type coaching style (but hopefully more honest) is Anthony Barry - assistant coach at Chelsea who is currently at the World Cup as a coach to Belgium. Apparently he has been targeted by other Championship teams and turned down Huddersfield earlier in the season and acted as temporary manager at Chelsea when they sacked Tuchel. Being quoted at 16/1 Sol Campbell, the ex Rangers Manager, and the ex Leeds Manager and some other overseas names I have never heard of all on Sky's list. All means nothing of course but time to sit back have some fun speculating and wait for an official announcement - hopefully not too long a wait. EDIT Odds are as quoted at 14-30 UK time and change by the minute

Would have thought wouldnt be too long a process. If they really want Critchley; would think that would have to be announced very soon - since supposedly Bournemouth want him as Assistant Manager to O'Neill.

I have seen a few mutterings that if Hoos and Ferdinand knew Beale wanted to go back to Rangers sometime why did we hire him.
On the contrary in my days of interviewing people (and I have done more than 1,000 interviews) the one question I always asked was "where do you see yourself being or want to be in 3 years time?" The answers are very revealing about attitude and motivation and self belief. I would fully expect that Beale would have been asked that question and I fully expect that he would say he wanted to prove himself with us taking the club forward and then move on to a bigger stage such as Rangers.

For the record, I think they should go for Chris Wilder.
As much as I applaud them for going in the direction of a bold, bright and innovative young manager it’s fraught with risks, as we have just seen. There is also the reality of FFP coming up, which is going to be a considerable challenge for any manager let alone a fresh faced rookie. Wilder has experience of the Championship and knows it has many ups and downs, he can bring a level head and perspective to the club.
He will also bring old school values like hard work, honesty and integrity, some of which are clear talking points of concern after the last few days.
They won’t bring him in, imo, because he doesn’t fit that bright young thing mould they appear to want to go with, but I think he could be just what this club needs right now.

Yeah I agree, can’t see them going anywhere near Wilder or Robins or any others in the mould. I’m pretty much at the point of can’t be bothered who it is with the exception of Scott Parker, Sol Campbell, Barton and Sherwood.

Being pessimistic, unless the impossible happened and we get promoted or maybe play-offs the team will get ripped apart in January or the summer with loans disappearing - not to be replaced because of FFP and our better players moving on as long as they continue to show what they can do for the time they have left with us.
The average shelf life of Championship manager I would guess is little more than a season and we are linked with every name under the sun each time we sack or lose one. So the likely way forward now is to bring in someone we do not have to pay money for - i.e. out of work, someone not on a high salary, someone who will not do too much damage but in saying that will not take us too far forward.
Being optimistic there are names being linked that I have never heard of - maybe someone relatively unknown can come in and do a fantastic job for this season - our squad is not that bad after all if they are all fit and playing with commitment. I look at Huddersfield and where they finished last season - no reason why we cannot dream of doing the same.
Like Harr there are names I do not want to see at the club but who would our best choice? I have no idea and do not envy the job of Hoos and Ferdinand in choosing one. Whatever they do is going to be hammered by some keyboard warriors - just a case of be damned if you do, be damned of you don't.

I wonder what constitutes an illegal approach for a manager nowadays. It all seems such a nonsense. Every time there is a vacancy, most out of work managers are said to be interested - no matter where it is geographically. But then comes the name dropping of employed managers - some who do not have agents or representatives it seems. I wonder how Coventry feel having their manager on our list without any 'official' approach, but his release clause in the media - apparently. It seems that interest is expressed on both sides that is easily denied. Then there is inter club communication, but not official contact. Owners and management must hear all the whispers anyway. Hoos has implied that we have a perpetual list for our next appointment, so that we can start afresh every six months perhaps. Then there are all the backup coaches, following their leader from club to club. Arry took his driver everywhere! But it is all insane.

To answer my own question, it seems that Glasgow Rangers did not want to pay a release compensation at all. Beale could have resigned at QPR, and we would only have the 'illegal approach' route open to secure what we were due. Perhaps we had to. With Beale visiting the Rangers game when the last manager was still in post was in that respect naive. To invite him to the game and then try to avoid the compensation clause would surely be one step too far? But I do not know what the ramification of an illegal approach is anymore. Does anyone on here know?

An interesting set of points Ricky and I am not sure I have clear answers on most of them. The thing that interests me is the so called "short list" . No doubt the club has a list of people it would be interested in but who really knows who is on eth list. I expect even the closest "in the know" voices actually know who is on that list. In public the "list" is often no more than clickbait, agents or even managers pushing their names around, bookmakers putting out a list to make money and fans groups expressing thoughts or speculation. Quite often the person getting a vacant job will have appeared in one of those sources but there are occasions when a name comes completely out of the blue. As for tapping up or illegal approaches - yes they happen with a quick text or phone call to sound someone out - or an invitation to watch a game . But the mere fact that an out of work manager seeing his name on one of these lists will become interested, or an employed manager not previously looking to move becomes interested or unsettled having seen their name linked , even with any contact from the clubs concerned. With modern communications, contacts and social media the old traditional methods of recruiting managers and players have disappeared along with loyalty and integrity - or maybe they have just become public. The fact that some players can start to negotiate with a new club in January because their contracts end in the summer is understandable from a players point of view and for those clubs who can afford to buy or offer pre-contract agreements But this puts the players current clubs in a terrible position. They can end up with a player just going through the half hearted paces for half a season, avoiding injury knowing they already have a better paid job lined up, or leave clubs open close to blackmail to offer terms for the player to extend their contract. I thought the original idea of the transfer windows was to confine all this sort of activity into a fixed period but with player/agent power out of control the opposite has happened. Still we now await a new manager and then await the soon to follow potential nightmare of the January window that could rip the team apart. Much speculation about Beale raiding our squad but after recent events how many would want to join him. Any that do must be going for the money. Any with talent and ambition will be looking for the PL or top Championship sides - or even to try to get us to the promised land. What ambition or career do they face playing in a league totally dominated by 2 clubs, playing repetitive games against teams of our League One or Two standard, with the hope of surviving a couple of European Games. Last thoughts, firstly with Belgium out of the World Cup, Barry from Chelsea is contactable sooner than expected - and Martinez is now free (joke). Secondly the departure of Banfield (I assume he has agreed the move) really is disappointing. He was at the club before Beale and I would have liked him to stay - but then our next manager might not have wanted him so a season in cold snowy Scotland maybe more attractive than being axed.

Does anyone on here know? I wonder if manager contracts have clauses that if they just resign, because they have a better offer, they have to pay the club a fixed compensation - eg the equivalent of their salary and bonuses for the rest of their contract. If not it leaves all clubs open to managers walking away at any point scot free (no pun intended) because of a better offer. As I understand it an illegal approach would normally be settled by a complaint to the FA/EFL and likely a fine or order for the compensation to be paid but I assume that could be open to legal challenge and would drag on for a couple of years. What constitutes an illegal approach. I think the simple definition would be a club discussing or offering a position to another clubs manager/coach without asking permission from the current employer. As we know there are many ways to go about that in private without it becoming public knowledge but in this case I think the Beale appearance at the Aberdeen game and around the fans pubs afterwards is as close to a public display of an illegal approach as there can be. Maybe an offer to him on Twitter might have been more clearcut.
