As you say Ricky it is sad and I would say more than just a tad.
I think I have said it before but what has happened with Sky, overseas players and money and probably a European league to come, the game we grew up with is finished - for now.
The only hope is that the "big boys" go off and play amongst themselves and the Championship and below settle back into community based football. Probably a pipe dream I will not see especially when we have clubs like Forest betting their future to try to join the big boy league.
Personally I think we have done well this window, keeping all our better players adding Paal and Laird, plus the other loan signings and cover at CB. I believe that gives us a squad capable of pushing the play-off places.
The negativity that some see is because in the last few days of the window we did not find another striker and because we did not manage to offload a few who are not needed. Obviously financially not good to be paying players we do not want/need. However that should not impact the overall result which is that we are have far stronger squad and have more strength in depth than we did before the window opened - plus a new manager who seems (so far) to know what he is doing.
Time to get back to football now - until the international breaks and World Cup disrupt another season.

We were after a left back loan and were chasing Longelo at West Ham - likely to be a free agent next June. Seems Peter Eustace (Birmingham) remembered him from when we tried to sign him in January and he joined Birmingham on a season long loan. Be interesting to see how he does. I guess Brum were able to offer first team football but we only needed 'cover'.

Andy Carroll was said to be on a £1k a week with reading last season.
At 33 and available on a free, I’d be ok to offer him £500 a week 😀

I think we would have to do something with Bonne before we get a free agent. I get the impression he doesn’t want to play for us, will he train, who will he train with…. Wouldn’t it have been better to let him go to Charlton as a loan rather than playing hard ball at the last minute and get a few grand a week rather than bringing back to a club where he obviously doesn’t want to play for, I just don’t get that at all.

To be fair, that was a Charlton fan rumour so we don't really know what happened there.

I expect it will come out, it appears to have been just stated in the Charlton fan base , like you say have not seen a south London press confirmation so maybe a rumour? I think SLP reported that Charlton owners said the deal fell through at the last minute through things beyond Charlton control. So maybe even Bonne and his agent pulled out the deal. Either way I think it’s obvious he doesn’t really want to play for us.

If I understand the rules correctly there is nothing we can do with Bonne before the next window other than pay him off or keep paying him but not include him in the squad. The loan window is closed and to be a "Free Agent" I believe the player had to be out of contract on September 1st, so even if we do pay him off he cannot play elsewhere until the next window opens. As for all the Charlton chat does anyone really know if Charlton were really after him. All rumour with no names confirmed by clubs or local press. If there were no takers for him nothing much we could do especial

You don’t go as far as having A medical if Charlton didn’t want him. The stumbling block from the Charlton board was due to last minute things beyond their control they couldn’t sign him( problem QPR end ) They wouldn’t come out and say the problem was at QPR in the press if they couldn’t back it up same for medical

Sounds like Charlton put a lot into getting the deal done. If he wasn’t interested in signing what was he doing at there training ground Thursday …. I really it hope it wasn’t our end that tried this permanent deal rather than loan, just because we had wasted 1.5 million on a player that’s not worth a third of that.
“It has been a busy few days and we were very confident of bringing in another striker before the deadline,” Sandgaard told the club’s official website. “The whole recruitment team – myself, Steve [Gallen], Martin [Sandgaard] and Ben [Garner] – have been working tirelessly to get this last deal completed.
“We thought we were there and the player had passed his medical at our training ground on Thursday evening, but unfortunately there were complications beyond our control late in the day, which went down to the last minute, and we haven’t been able to sign the player.

The stumbling block from the Charlton board was due to last minute things beyond their control they couldn’t sign him( problem QPR end ) They wouldn’t come out and say the problem was at QPR in the press if they couldn’t back it up same for medical The South London Press report is of a conversation with the Charlton Manager and the states "although he (sic the manager) did not name the player or club involved." and the manager said “I wouldn’t want to go into individuals and the ins and outs of it. All I will say is that it was nothing on our part that we could do as a football club. It didn’t break down our end." If Beale or Hoos had said that about a deal breaking down I'm sure Mac would be on here saying "more spin" from the club to keep the fans onside Their other report is of a conversation with the Charlton Chairman also states he would not name the player or club involved. The only mention of QPR and Bonne is from the reporter. So it may well have been Bonne but there is no mention or official confirmation of that from either club - no different to some of the stuff we see in WLS and Twitter that turns out not to be strictly correct. I would think that Bonne would not want to go to Charlton anyway - it would be an admission of failure to go back where he came from plus he did not want to stay there either in the first place and the fans were happy to see him go. If we did pull the deal it must have been for a reason - probably financial as I can see no football reason to keep him. Either way what is done is done and enough of all the talk about Bonne when we have a good squad with new players who hardly get a mention. Bonne has made it clear he does not want to play for us and I have not seen an ounce of evidence since he joined that he was committed or has the ability to be our main striker or even back up. Time to move on.

It looks like a sad ending. Not only will we probably lose 1.5 million plus on a player that was not great, we now find ourselves possibly paying him another 250K - 500 K sitting in the background going through the motions. Charlton fans laughed there arse off when we bought him at that price, they had point.

Trial period? or handy cover.
We have 7 games between October 1st and 28th plus another on November 2nd. Squad depth and rotation will be necessary I think.

Well to be fair it was one of our priorities that seem to get overlooked, leaving it until the last minute is never a good idea. Our philosophy is always let’s a get a squad full of midfielders that are so versatile that we won’t have any problems. I can see it happening again for sure and the board probably deserve some of the flack that will come there way. There argument would be then one of our star players would have to have been sold.

I know it's past the summer but - strong rumours growing in Midlands press that Tim I. will be recalled by Villa in January. They have been watching him at matches and the new Villa manager (reports say) wants him back. That one sounds likely but less likely is the same source saying Beale will raid us in January and his first target will be Dykes - after Dykes "snake song" post that may not happen but watch this space re Willock Chair and maybe a couple of others with Beale knowing the ins and outs of their contracts and wages and our FFP situation.

rumblings coming out of Ibrox that Beale will come after two players in Jan you can bet one will be Willock because of his connections to Banfield who was instrumental in him signing for us , the other I am not too sure but maybe it could be Balogun as ,Beale brought him to LR and contract only to Jan 23 , I really can't see Dykes wanting to go there after his snake song but maybe he is trying to fool us into thinking that just like Beale did with all his lies I can't answer that but I do think Jan 23 is going to be an interesting time for everyone involved at QPR football clib

Yeah I have mixed feelings regarding Willock. If he is not going to sign a new contract, then his value is set to decline from January. There is even the chance that there will be no bids as he winds his contract down - so Beale's Rangers bidding may not be the end of the world - although I would obviously prefer to keep him on a new contract. Critchley must be fully aware of the FFP situation from the board and from Beale - no doubt a factor in Beale's accelerated departure. Beale will have fully briefed Critchley, and Critchley will have been told that no funds unless we sell someone. So, it may well be that discussions have already taken place about who Beale wants from our squad (if anyone). There is no way that Critchley has been oversold this job. His loyalty to Blackpool was not much better than Beale's loyalty to QPR, so I hope that he is committed to the cause - perhaps that was the delay. But yeah, January will be interesting. Can we have a new thread for January window mods?

Hopefully Beale saying he won’t be leaving the sinking ship and then did will mean most players won’t want to join Mr Slippery. Balogun well I’m sure he will end up going back quite soon. If it is Critchley as long as he doesn’t come out with statements defending Beale for what he did, can’t see it going down well with the fan base otherwise.
