Interesting window ahead.
What do we all think will materialize over the next month or so?
I think that some Prem clubs are looking desperate – and some are wealthy, so although it is a bad time to buy, it can be a bumper time to sell.
Having said that, I think we will only let one go and that is likely to be Dickie. I think we will push for £10m (remembering Oxford are said to be on 20% of the increment). The form of Dunne and the signing of Cook (early in the window) will facilitate that release. Newcastle could be an option, but Dickie has never left Berkshire and so I would not be surprised to see Southampton (or West Ham) being his preference. Wolves and Leeds also linked.
So perhaps:
Out
Dickie
Barbet (contract expiring in the Summer) – very much depending on the Dickie situation
Bonne - Ipswich
Barnes – still 4th choice keeper – or Walsh off on loan.
Kelman – loan
Bettache – loan
Hamalainen – loan
Masterson – loan extension
Thomas – maybe – plenty of admirers
Owens – loan?
In
Depending on funds received above
Cook
Left sided defender ( Barbet off / Wallace aging, McCallum only a loanee)
Right wing back please!
Forward (if Bonne is sold
Thoughts anyone?

In the same order: Dickie - not sure lots of noise but others say he is not ready for the PL yet and personally I think he needs another year with us but money talks Barbet - not likely to get much( if any) cash for him in January so I think he may just run down his contract - family and Covid may be a factor for him to get home quickly though Bonne - I still do not think he will be Championship material but will Ipswich be able to pay 2 million for him?. We will want to get our money back and is there a sell on clause with Charlton. Possible recall if we cannot find anyone as striker cover. Barnes - loan him out and keep Walsh especially with Dieng away at AFCON Kelman and Bettache - probably loans but depends if need to keep them as cover for injuries. I would like to see Kelman playing a few games for us at this level this season to see how good he is or not. Hamalainen - sell him if we can if not loan again Masterson - leave him on loan in theory but depends on the Dickie/Cook/Barbet situations. Thomas - Still think he has potential if we stay in the Championship but has not had a chance really. If we can make a profit and fund a signing then probably fair to him to let him go Cook - Good signing in my book Wing back and defender - probably cannot afford both but one good versatile signing would make a big difference to the squad Anything else - If we make a signing or 2 I think they will be out of the blue names we have not been linked with. Most likely scenario - I haven't got a clue to be honest - so many fine margins and variables going on. If we win our next 2 games we may look to strengthen. If we lose the next 2 we may settle for what we have and save the money - or vice versa!

So, the first part of the jigsaw - the corner edge piece has fallen on the floor. Cook signing for Forest for £150k in a 2.5 year deal, taking him past 33 years of age. I think that he would have been very high end for our wage structure, but wages never seem to worry Forest Sorry he has not signed but glad we stuck to our financial ceiling. Be interesting to see how many times he plays, especially if McKenna and Worrell remain there. May not be a regular there and so maintaining fitness will be a challenge. Presumably he will have to relocate as well, so it must be financially worth it for him. Meanwhile, either Dickie's agent, or QPR sources seem to have decided that it is time to cash in on him. No doubt delayed now due to Cook's Robin Hood adventure. Dykes also being touted in the press with Brighton and Burnley monitoring - I would be very surprised if he will go this window - he is hardly banging them in, and still not fully fit it seems. But will be interesting to see if QPR have a plan B waiting instead of Cook - I think that the club thought it was nailed on, so may take a while.

But will be interesting to see if QPR have a plan B waiting instead of Cook - I think that the club thought it was nailed on, so may take a while. The Dorset Press and a Nottingham paper both saying Cook is being signed on a free - who knows - but if that is the case we were always going to be outbid by Forest on wages. Maybe he will do a Jordie and only play 3 games this season. A potential plan B was Scoutar but he is close to joining Blackburn(reports). Plan C could be Masterson but Warburton wants experience and does not want to break Mastersons loan. If we have no other choice I think we would be forced to take that route. It would not add the experience Warburton wants but we do need cover for injuries and if Dickie or Barbet go we are in trouble. I can't see Dykes going anywhere to be honest. He is not scoring enough and despite his effort his hold up play is off too many times for the PL.
Not the end of the world but very disappointing as I though Cook was a good choice and getting it done early in the window would have been great. Forest are falling into the Derby category of my least favourite names and they are still saying they will add more to their squad this window.

This is going to be a real tough window for so many reasons. Covid is going to rule out a lot of players as you wont be able to give them a fitness test, AFCON means that there are players that will not be in the Country and other teams know we are buying to try and keep ourselves in promotion contention so the price goes up.
Dickie - unlikely to move unless its a very big bid.
Barbet - I get the impression there is a handshake in place for him to go in the summer.
Bonne - Will stay with Ipswich for the remainder of the season with a view for him to come back next year in the stating XI (Charlie replacement)
Barnes – I think he will be number 2 next year so possibly loan for the remainder of the season
Kelman – loan
Bettache – loan
Hamalainen – loan
Masterson – loan extension
Thomas – Very likely to go as he isn't getting much playing time.
Owens – loan
In
Central defender
Left winger

Had we secured Cook and one other, we would be rightly pleased to have concluded our business early. However, we lost Cook to Forest and it seems we are not interested in Palmer (Bristol City) - so we have not got our business away as we thought. But it is a different feeling watching other clubs conclude early business. It seems that Forest are really going for it. They hi-jacked our Cook deal, signed Spence and Davis and are now hi-jacking the Josh Bowler and Jed Wallace deals that other clubs have in place. They are also linked with several others. May all be click bait.....but are they betting the shop or what? It seems that any player on the move has Nottingham down as an option.....will it end in tears or will they just sell Johnson for £14m to cover the outlay. www.westhamzone.com/transfers/west-ham-told-what-it-will-cost-to-sign-brennan-johnson-report/Canadian left back Richie Laryea is undergoing a medical after Forest offered him more than his current offer to become the highest paid player in the MLS. www.nottinghampost.com/sport/football/transfer-news/nottingham-forest-transfers-richie-laryea-6448243Bowler on his way out? - Josh Bowler has only been at Bloomfield Road since his free transfer in the summer. but he is already attracting interest from one of the club's Championship rivals. Nottingham Forest are reported to have had a bid knocked back by the Seasiders for the winger who has six months left on his current deal. Steve Cook became Forest’s 83rd signing since January 2018. #NFFC But Forest are pretty low in my current popularity stakes. Crazy times in the Sherwood Forest. Meanwhile, Thomas linked with Blackpool & Portsmouth www.footballinsider247.com/sources-portsmouth-and-blackpool-in-race-for-qpr-attacker-thomas/

Yeap and I hope they finish 7th on goal difference again and the EFL get them for FFP. As for Steve Cook - in my days a hand shake was a deal but seems not the case now if Trees are involved. Forget my axe pass me the chain saw.

So what do people think are the priorities? We seem to be open to discussions about Bonne - Ipswich, Wigan & Sunderland are interested. We would probably get £1.5 - £2m for him (although we probably owe Charlton installments) We seem to similarly be open to Thomas discussions, we could get £250 - £500k - Blackpool and Portsmouth interested. We are open to offers for Dickie it seems. Oxford on a healthy sell om and owed installments but healthy profit to be had. If we end up with circa £5m to spend within FFP limits, how should we spend it? For me, if Dickie goes, we need centre back cover ASAP, Masterson not ready, Jordy sicknote - we may need two. Left back - McCallum is three weeks away - can we wait? We may well do to see what we need next season. Midfield cover I think will come from loans only. But up front if Bonne goes, I think we need a reinforcement. So depending on whether or nor Dickie leaves, I think my view on spending money is probably centre backs and then a striker. A left back would be a bonus. We need a right back / wing back badly - but I don't see that happening unless we shift one of the three we have. Anyone?

To be honest I have given up trying to work it out as there are too many variables and unknowns. Yes if Dickie goes we need to replace, AFCON is an issue. We probably have an excess in numbers in midfield so only need to recruit if we let one or 2 go. Who would we drop for a new signing etc etc. At this point where we are in the table, and players returning in the next few weeks I am fairly relaxed. We are not doing bad with what we have so either a signing has to be a step up or longer term potential. Only concern is if we get more injuries or suspensions but in reality financially we cannot afford to increase the squad size for contingency. With departures we have to make sure we are not weakening the squad so if Bonne goes or a couple of very fringe players there is no problem. Anyone else we should only sell if we can replace first - no use selling Dickie and then having another Cook situation blow up in our face. What will be will be and I doubt it will be much at all. Best option would be a couple of experienced PL loans for the season. Or maybe mad man Pearson will loan us Wells and Bentley

Provocative thought
If we include games played while out on loan during development our current CB stats (give or take a game or 2 for error but excluding internationals at under 23 level or below) are Dickie Age 25, 147 games, Barbet Age 28, 237 games Dunne Age 24 90 games Jordie Age 26, 190 games Masterson is the only one short on games but has already played 20 this season plus why he did with us when he first arrived
Cook had been there done it etc but we are not that short on age and experience when you see younger PL players with less experience breaking into teams and costing multi millions. Do we need more experience. Give youth a chance. Our problem is injury cover.
What would have happened with Gerry Francis and others teenagers of his era who went straight into the first team if we had said go on loan for a couple of seasons - we would never have seen them in a QPR shirt

Apparently we are interested along with Cardiff and Stoke (who will probably both out bid us) but as cover and one for the future...........
