The positive variation in our case is that the Watford plan would have built on a green belt golf course while if we could redevelop the Lynford Christie site it would really be regeneration of an existing 'stadium" . Last reports I saw said the Hammersmith Council were starting to make some more positive comments about the idea but even so it will take years to get through planning permission and a no doubt endless list of campaigns by dog walkers etc.
The Bushy Park Golf Club website says they are "closed for renovation". Is that the case, or taking advantage of a Covid break or closed to be redeveloped for industrial use and job creation? Pity - I played there in a competition 40 odd years ago and it was nice little course.

Is that the case, or taking advantage of a Covid break or closed to be redeveloped for industrial use and job creation? Pity - I played there in a competition 40 odd years ago and it was nice little course. There are several large golf courses in Bushey, but the one that is going to be redeveloped closed pre-Covid. I posted the local story because I thought it showed (again) how these plans are developed and gather momentum, and yet pretty easily defeated and scrapped. The area concerned was away from the Watford town centre, very residential, with inadequate transport links for a stadium. And yet, invariably, it is an ecological issue that leaves the idea dead in the water. My point about Brentford was that it really is an exception to the rule to find a new site in a built up area - only Arsenal and West Ham have managed to do that with railway / industrial brown sites - and lets be honest, West Ham were very lucky. Spurs have a fantastic stadium (dreadful management and team though) but look at the lengths they had to go to to develop White Hart Lane. LCS really is our only chance without a substantial geographical change. The sums of money involved in the W12 Unigate site and all the vacated BBC buildings make it impossible otherwise. Watford are hoping to extend Vicarage Road now, I suspect the Bushey project was more about getting leverage to do so as they never went public with their support of the scheme despite being named in the proposal. Watford General Hospital next door is being totally rebuilt and they are hoping to do a land grab........but even that will be a great achievement. But I think LCS will be easily obstructed, go on for years (see Warren Farm) and unless Covid sees a total collapse of office accommodation, then our options will be next to none. So over to Hammersmith and Fulham Council.........cue solicitor bills.
