Interesting read says we spent £7m on signings last season which seems a lot more than I thought! Also didn’t realise Bonne was on loan and then permanent deal agreed in January which means our spend could be close to £9m.

Yes, there is a record of who we have purchased this season as a post balance sheet event as follows: 'Dickie, Dykes, Willock, Kelman, Walsh and Bonne cost an combined total of £7,003,000 of which £1,165,500 is contingent on future events. Interestingly, we only acquired Bonne in January 2021, he was on loan before that - I don't think that was public knowledge. We wrote off £4.5m already spent on Warren Farm and then acquired Heston for £4.5m. Then we have the development cost to follow - so our owners will spend way north of £10m on a new training ground. That is a huge commitment.

Bonne signed a couple of days before the window closed so maybe his international clearance was not complete so we switched it to a loan then permanent deal - just guessing. Checked that on Wiki and when you see his playing record it does raise the question of why we signed him at all - desperation is the only word that comes to mind.
The 7 million spent looks good value when you see the list of players - with one exception (Bonne). Dickie Dykes and Willock were worth their fees and have already increased value, Kelman and Walsh are investments and we had to fight off competition so the add ons may well apply to them and Dickie. Which brings me back to Bonne .......maybe WBA want him in a swap for Charlie.

I agree very good value it just surprised me we spent that much and looking like we will or have spent a few more million this season. We have the Eze money and wages should drop again but revenue drops each year, however it does look like the Board are prepared to back Warburton for a promotion push this season which is great and shows ambitions. Clearly if we don’t achieve promotion next season then we risk losing some of our stronger players to balance books again, but we at least have some players worth good sell on value if they continue to impress - Dieng, Dickie, Chair, Willock and Dykes could be worth in excess of £50m combined next year if interest from the premier league. That’s our strategy now and replicating what Brentford have done but relies on a very good scouting network. I like the stability with Warburton, first manager since Holloway in early 2000s heading into his 3rd full season with us.

Yeah, always hard to work out just what is paid for a player and how much of the fees quoted in the press relate to add-ons. Taking the list above, the following fees were quoted in the press at the time: Dickie £1.5m - £2m Dykes £1.75m - £2m Bonne £2m Willock £750 Kelman £500k Walsh £500k So not so inaccurate it would seem. Presumably the £1m difference between the £7m and the £6m are add-ons that are now due (e.g appearances 20/21) - whereas there could be considerably more add-ons in the future - and that would mean that players have fulfilled their potential. With hindsight, the fees look pretty reasonable today - good business - but with only Bonne looking expensive. Hard to think that he could be sold this Summer when he only properly joined in January - more likely a loan out to build confidence I would think

Thank god the "Flash Harry" or "Flash Hughes" days are long gone. Cutting the cloth accordingly.

Thank god the "Flash Harry" or "Flash Hughes" days are long gone. Cutting the cloth accordingly. Couldn't agree more, even if the club spends a little to fight for promotion next season, they will either go up and it will completely cover the costs and then some or they can sell players to recover the cost. It's nice to see the club being responsible and finding up and coming players at reasonable costs that they can sell for more than they bought.

You know I like you Corndog but when I see your name, I am so reminded of one of these things. Apologies to you in advance.
