www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-qpr-seny-dieng-west-ham-1004213Another superb performance from Seny yesterday - grand command of his area and assured handling. It is going to be tough to keep him at QPR for very long - he is also a full international now as Nick London likes to remind us. £6m seems quite low - even the Sun reporting suggests he would be a bargain. But this time last year he was at Doncaster, never having played a first team game for QPR, unable to play when we returned from the first lockdown for the extended season and entering his last contracted year. Stevenage and Doncaster raved about him and he signed a new 4 year deal with QPR, but until that point he was not even in our team, third choice behind Lumley and Kelly. Once in the team he has played 37 times and established himself as the undisputed number one keeper leading to Kelly and Lumley departing on consecutive loans through frustration. If someone had said that we would be sniffing at a £6m bid for him just over 6 months later we would have thought that person crazy. Although Johansen, Field, Austin and De Wijs have turned our season around, Seny has kept us in so many games that in the past we would have lost. Post Covid, I have no idea how much he is really worth or how desperate QPR will be to cash in, but I know that I hope we get another year at least out of him so that Joe Walsh can develop as a successor. Meanwhile, Liam Kelly saved a penalty for Motherwell and apparently turned the game - he never got near one for QPR, but good news. He too is very highly rated by Motherwell. Who would be a keeper?

Reckon Hammers would be the first of many. We are looking at a future world class keeper IMHO and even Warbs has said if the price is right he will go.

What is the going rate for quality keepers transferred to the Prem in the last couple of years?
Any of the top 8-10 clubs in evident need?

No doubt he will be linked with a few clubs over the summer, even with some in eth Championship looking for promotion or quick return to the PL.
As for West Ham - they were supposed to be interested in Eze but did nothing or if they did their bid was way off the mark. I doubt this would be a good move for Dieng as he would highly likely just be going as the number 2 behind Fabrianski. Of course on a higher salary but not playing.
He signed a 4 year contract and seems level headed so I hope he stays for at least one more season. Our improved position and hope of challenging at teh top next season if we keep teh squad together maybe enough for him to want to stay rather than risk sitting on a bench somewhere else.
But the club is in teh situation that every player has his price and if offered enough we would have to let him go - even though would be a blow for th team and probably a mistake for Dieng.

Phil Parkes....Martin Allen....Andy Impey...Trevor Sinclair
And in return we've gotten Iain Dowie...Keith Rowlands...Tim Breacker and Mikolsko + Zarate!
I know who's done better from these deals

If we can get closer to £10m and a loan back to us for next season then I would take that. We probably need to sell again to strengthen the squad unless we do more loans or can pick up good players on free transfers (but along with everyone else!) but the above gives Walsh another season to learn as backup and play the odd cup game, to then be our number one for 2022/23

We would probably part company with Kelly and Lumley and have Barnes and Walsh as back up. But if West Ham get into Europe they will probably want Seny next season, although possibly only as third choice. I would like to at least see Seny witha QPR crowd behind him before he departs, but he is good enough to move up. I think Dickie and Chair both need another season. Perhaps this time next year we will be wondering if we can hold onto Field, Amos and maybe even Dykes!

Warburton's comments on the subject today are as we should expect. He doubts the source of the story, does not believe that Moyes conducts his transfer business through the press, and without naming figures says every player in the world has his price but in Dieng's case it would be our price that has to be met.
IMO If any team in the top half of the PL is interested we must demand a minimum of 10 million. On the other hand while he has proven to be one of the best in the Championship it was only 6 months or so ago that the was loan player in a lower division at Doncaster. I would expect then that any bid now would be low with more in the way of add-ons if he progresses. However if he stays another season with us and keeps up or improves his performances I think then we can be asking for big money.
The two edged sword of news though is that we have a set of players in the squad with high potential who will be a source of income in the transfer market in the next couple of years. While it will be sad to see our better players leaving it will help to keep the club going, hopefully we can develop replacements at low cost. We are in a far better situation than a couple of season ago when we had at best only one or two players who had any real sell on value but were costing us over the top in salary without delivering the goods.

I definitely agree this club is in much better shape than a few seasons ago. We are buying low and selling high, as you said it will be sad to see players go, but it will keep the club going and it's the right thing to do. It's nice to see the club being run competently and within it's means, at the same time having stability. It took long enough, but Warburton is the right man for the job, while transfers and scouting have been more than competent. It will be interesting to see what they do in the offseason, if they can keep this team together I think they could fight for promotion. If they sell Dieng for the right price, it could allow them to sign some of the loanees and hopefully they can find a competent replacement.
