Goode signing for Brentford in preference to us... sign of the times sadly. Still, we have no 'right' to be better than any other side in the Football League and have to earn credibility and respect in the game after our shambolic FFP debacle and time in the Prem. And I think we're doing that just fine. Exactly this. Right now. Brentford are better than us. We have to change that but as it stands now, they are a more attractive proposition to him.

What the Offie said on the signing of Dykes www.qpr.co.uk/news/club-news/lyndon-dykes-is-a-ranger/Lyndon Dykes is a Ranger!Paul Morrissey @pjmorrissey77 LYNDON Dykes has joined QPR from Livingston for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old striker has signed a four-year deal with the R’s. Dykes, who was Livingston’s top goalscorer in the SPL last season, is now looking forward to getting started in west London. I like to work hard for my team-mates, I want them to know that I’m putting it in for them. “I’m buzzing, obviously!” he said. “Being at Livingston was great but to be at a club like this, I just want to put my head down now and kick on. “I am a player who works hard for the team. I like to work hard for my team-mates, I want them to know that I’m putting it in for them. I am always going to give 100%. “I am always willing to learn and hopefully I can score a few goals as well.” Dykes is also relishing the physicality of the English Championship, adding: “That’s not a worry for me! “I like that side of the game sometimes – I’m willing to get in there and rough some people up!” Mark Warburton has handed his new signing the No.9 shirt, and Dykes admitted: “It’s great as a striker when you are given that. “It’s a big thing and I am keen to get that shirt on and get out playing.” R’s boss Warburton said: “I am delighted, delighted! “He is a player who can score goals and he showed his quality against Rangers and Celtic last season. “He is a hard worker, a good finisher and I think he is going to go on to become a good international for Scotland.” Warburton also believes Dykes is a player who can grow in the coming years, adding: “He is still young and raw, and there is a lot of development potential in him. “A lot of good work has been done and he has worked very hard in Scotland, and we hope very much that we can help him move to the next level.”

From WLS www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-wls-qpr-chelsea-izzy-brown-sheffield-wednessay-nottingham-forest-loan-deal-08209987Brown looks set to join Wednesday on loanBy West London Sport 19/08/2020 Izzy Brown looks set to join Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long loan from Chelsea. West London Sport revealed last month that QPR were among clubs interested in the 23-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Luton Town. But Brown is close to completing a move to Hillsborough. Yorkshire Live reports that he is expected to finalise the move in the next 24 hours and that Wednesday have beaten Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth as well as QPR to his signing. It will be Brown’s seventh loan move since joining Chelsea, who signed him from West Bromwich Albion in 2013. He played Premier League football during a loan spell at Brighton, which was cut short by a long-term knee injury. Brown has also been on loan at Leeds, Huddersfield, Rotherham and Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem. He has a year remaining on his contract at Chelsea, who have been considering his options for the coming season. Brown, who is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also operate up front or as a winger, has made one first-team appearance for the Blues – against West Brom. His career so far has been hampered by injury problems. He joined Leeds on a season-long loan while still recovering from the anterior cruciate ligament damage which ended his time at Brighton. Brown made just one league appearance for the West Yorkshire club – as a late substitute against QPR – and managed 17 Championship starts during his season at Luton.

Middlesbrough and QPR turn attentions to Blackburn Rovers target after transfer failing Rovers find themselves facing Championship competition when it comes to acquiring centre-half targets Christian Maghoma left Tottenham in pursuit of first-team opportunities before Polish outfit Arka Gdynia Middlesbrough and QPR are now interested in pursuing Christian Maghoma, a previously reported target for Blackburn Rovers. Both clubs were keen on signing Charlie Goode from Northampton Town before Brentford revealed on Wednesday that they had signed the 25-year-old on a permanent deal. As a result, both Boro and QPR have turned their attentions elsewhere and both clubs have registered an interest with Maghoma, who is a free agent having left Arka Gydnia in May. Middlesbrough have history with Maghoma before, having tried to sign the DR Congo international when the player departed Tottenham last year and Neil Warnock is keen on bolstering his defensive line. Football Insider claimed at the end of the July that Rovers were 'on the brink' of securing a move for Maghoma, although no such move has materialised. His agent informed us that the 22-year-old is keen on a return to England following his brief spell in Poland and the defender had attracted the attention of Rangers boss Steven Gerrard with his performances in the Ekstraklasa, before they opted to pursue a deal with Leon Balogun following Wigan Athletic's administration. Mowbray, speaking to the club website on recruitment, added: “The conversations I think are around the lack of deals from a lot of clubs, but we're trying to spin some plates at this moment in time. “It's not easy to strengthen the squad in the current climate, but we know that we have positions, priority positions, where we have to strengthen."

Smyth formidable? He couldn't even get into Wycombe's L1 side except as sub most weeks. Agree the jury may be out on him but in mitigation, he got a severe muscle injury after scoring on his debut and was out for a good three months and took time to recover, so lost his place (though still ended up with 21 appearances). Wycombe play a very different brand of football to us and loans are more about getting minutes and being involved so I wouldn't judge him too harshly on that, while acknowledging it isn't that impressive. As a comparison, Dom Ball could barely get in the Rotherham side in league one and he's been a near-constant for us this year - different managers and styles make a difference. Not convinced he'll make it but he did well for us under Olly and I'd be keen to see what Warbs makes of him.

Smyth formidable? He couldn't even get into Wycombe's L1 side except as sub most weeks. Agree - BUT I said what a chance for him to step in. Possibly his last chance to prove himself at Championship level - and maybe Warburton's the man to get the most out of him. We all saw how good he could be when he first came to QPR, so here's his chance to make his mark. If he's up to it, we COULD have a formidable 'Little & Large' strike force next season. If he's not, then maybe another loan season (or sale) beckons. He's got the summer preseason to impress the manager. I'd like to see him given the chance.

OK, Hugill looks in doubt and Eze and BOS look likely to leave. What a chance for Chair and Smyth to step in, make starting places their own and linking up with the big man up front? Could be a formidable strike force... As for the defender we missed out on, well, we still have the BFG. I don’t really rate the BFG that highly Ashdown. Fair enough, but on his day he's been brilliant - he just needs more brilliant days. Maybe an expression of faith in his worth by Warburton might be all that's needed to motivate him. But if he doesn't want to be here, he's best well away from W12...

You both make valid points but he needs to prove that he is going to be consistently above average before I get too excited about him. I feel that a lot of our supporters expect too much from him on the basis of a cracking goal he scored on his debut and the odd impressive glimpse he has shown here or at Wycombe since.

I feel that a lot of our supporters expect too much from him on the basis of a cracking goal he scored on his debut and the odd impressive glimpse he has shown here or at Wycombe since. All fairly accurate but the consistently bit has been our problem throughout the whole defence including the keepers for the last few seasons. Asking for consistently above average is great but first we just need to be consistently average or good - that alone would cut out 20 to 30 goals a season conceded and leave us comfortably in the top half of the league (assuming we keep scoring!) Part of the problem I believe is that we have been forced by injury sto keep changing things around as well as changing formations - which is fine as we need to depending on opposition and match situations. The other part of the problem I feel is that neither of our keepers really dominate their areas and do not install confidence in the defence. Getting a settled back line should help but the keeper situation maybe needs Dieng to be given a run. Yep, can't disagree. However, I think that unless Dieng signs a contract extension he will be gone. It is easy to read too much into who models the new kit, but Lumley was the higher profile photo / number one keeper. If Dieng re-signs, I think that we will move on either Kelly or Lumley as well as Barnes. But if he does not, then I think it will be another season of Lumley and Kelly alternating following spells of poor form. But as it stands, I think Lumley will start the season in goal.

Just got around to reading an interview with Ramsey about development of players and maybe needing to balance the squad with a bit of experience. One of the points he makes is that at the moment more than one thousand players are looking for clubs and we are therefore not just taking anyone who comes along, but only players who we think are better than those we have and can contribute to the squad. Along side that I was reading about Simon Francis - experienced centre half just released by Bournemouth as they cut back after relegation. He is realistic that while he wanted to play a season or 2 more for Bournemouth and finish his career there he now faces a struggle even to find a new club with so many players available. While he just wants to play a bit more football he admits he may just have to look outside the game. This just brings up the thought that if we are not able to sign a young, up and coming centre half like Dickie, there are experienced players out there who could do a good job for us for a season or two until we find the long term solution. Someone experienced and realistic like Francis could well fit that bill, probably knowing he has to take a hit on his wages but just keen to play. Yes he is getting on but so was Rangel who we have lost due to injury. So bringing in Francis in a similar fashion as a true pro fresh from PL experience, to add to a young squad that will be stretched by the fixture list, and also set an example for younger players is something worth serious consideration. I agree I remember when we bought in Razor Ruddock was not the quickest but he organised. that is what we need. You can't keep hoping to find a gem in the lower leagues, A bit of steel and Know how is less of a gamble especially with our leaky defence.

No wonder they cannot afford to buy Eze....................what a mess they have got themselves into. £5m p.a for a handful of games. SSN.WEST HAM KEEN TO OFFLOAD WILSHERE
Jack Wilshere's stay at West Ham could be set to end with the club signalling their intentions to offload the midfielder, according to The Times.
The Hammers signed the former England international from Arsenal in July 2018, but injuries have plagued his stay at the London Stadium.
Wilshere earns a reported £100,000 a week, and West Ham are said to be desperate to get the player off their wage bill.

I can't for the life of me conceive of any club that would be interested in Wilshere!
Francis could be a very good signing for a club. However, he will be put to the test as to whether he still wants to play football or not. Will he be willing to take a massive wage deduction & drop to £10k per week? If not, there are very few clubs he could join.

Could all be moot at the end of the window but if the concrete Prem interest doesn't emerge for him then it would be great to see him extend. He's leaving money on the table right now if he doesn't leave and yes, that would be dwarfed by a signing on fee somewhere else on a free - but with another good full season under his belt here, his value rises, we've made it clear we won't stand in the way of a good move and he'll arguably have better options to pick from. Free is cheaper than a fee but even what we'd be demanding of him would be oeanuts to most prem sides. Another example of what could have been and the long term nature of what we are now trying to do in terms of contracts and transfers. If McClaren hadn't binned him off to Rotherham, we could be looking at a very different situation.

Hate to see Eze go to Foolham... Me too, the Ruperts would be the absolute worst option as far as I'm concerned! However, their reported interest could help bump up his price. Of the teams allegedly interested, I'd prefer him to go to Spurs. We seem to have a good working relationship with them and Eze's sale to them would only help in that respect. That said, Daniel Levy is notoriously miserly, so praps we won't get the full £20m...

Apparently, the Eze / Fulham story includes our interest in Alfie Mawson. a bit like the potential Hugill deal though, how can we afford him? He joined Fulham from Swansea for 320m when on the verge of the England team. He is said to be on £32k per week and has had a very bad time with injuries. If he rediscovered his form and stayed free of injuries he would be a great signing, but those wages are three times our rumoured £10k p.w cap. It also prompts the question, how can Fulham afford wages like these for back up players? he is behind Ream and Hector in their pecking order.
