Interesting how these transfer windows get played out. Media journalists seem to categorize clubs and then generate the stories to meet the profile. Middlesbrough and QPR probably have the biggest rebuilding jobs. Especially in defence. We seem to have opposition from Middlesbrough for every player of interest. Forest have to sell so Matty Cash & Worrell, their best players, can fill a few column inches. Relegated clubs to be raided for their best players. West Ham need to sell, the club names those available, but the press want Declan Rice to move to Chelsea. QPR will be linked with any available striker. So, it goes on…. Hard to work out what is real at times. But the way I see it is that we are selling at the lower end of the Prem and those clubs need to shift players first or drive a good bargain – or both. Palace’s need will be greater if Zaha moves on. But who is going to pay their asking price? So they will hold out until the final week and then the panic cascades through the leagues. The bigger clubs know to wait for as long as possible before making bids. In that respect, I think this window going on until mid-October is a mistake and only favours the rich. I have no doubt that our owners could bankroll acquisitions (unlike many other clubs) but if we then cannot sell our trio of stars, we will break FFP and so off we go again. So we are stuck in limbo for up to 2 months.

"Queens Park Rangers are willing to pay £500,000 for Northampton Town captain Charlie Goode with Oxford United’s Rob Dickie also in their sights, according to the West London Sport. While QPR are in danger of losing their three most important attackers this summer, with Ebere Eze and Bright Osayi-Samuel potentially set to follow Jordan Hugill out of the door, Mark Warburton’s is focused firmly on the other end of the pitch. Only two teams conceded more Championship goals (a staggering 76) than Rangers in 2019/20." see: www.hitc.com/en-gb/2020/08/11/report-qpr-want-to-sign-two-football-league-captains-valued-at-3m-and-1m/

From most reports it seems we dodged a bullet on this one.... He does seems Warnock type target man. On balance, think I'd prefer Hugill back, even if only on loan.

SSN - RANGEL RELEASED BY QPR Angel Rangel’s two-year stay at QPR has come to an end. The 37-year-old Spanish full-back is to leave the Sky Bet Championship club after making 41 appearances. But Rangel will do rehabilitation work at Rangers after suffering a torn Achilles at Luton last month and undergoing surgery.
WLS - QPR linked with Livingston forward The Scottish Sun claim QPR are among Championship clubs keen on Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes. The newspaper reckon the R’s have been keeping tabs on Dykes “for months” and “appear to have stepped up their interest” after Barnsley apparently made an offer for the Australian. It comes after QPR director of football Les Ferdinand recently watched a couple of Livingston matches. Barnsley are said to have had a £1.3m bid for Dykes rejected, with Livingston reportedly demanding £2m. The Scottish Sun also say that as well as Rangers and Barnsley, there is interest from Middlesbrough and Stoke. Dykes has previously been linked with Derby County. Scottish media reports regularly link QPR and other English clubs with players north of the border.
SSN - TRIO LEAVE CHARLTON Tomer Hemed, Lewis Page and Naby Sarr have all left Charlton, the club have confirmed. Sarr made 116 appearances for the Addicks since joining in 2015, while Page spent three years at the club and Hemed enjoyed 18 outings in his solitary campaign.

Dillon Barnes, one of two goalkeepers on trial at Swindon today, playing against Coventry. Apparently, he played well and saved a penalty. Perhaps we have decided that 4 senior goalkeepers is too many... at long last. Meanwhile, it seems that Luke Freeman may well be part of the deal that takes Matty Cash to Sheffield United. Only 16 appearances for the Blades, what a waste. Meanwhile Forest sign Tyler Blackett (ex-Reading) with Lyle Taylor (Charlton) having a medical - surely one of the biggest squads in the league again next season.

Add-ons would definitely make sense, likely the only way the deal could be done considering how tight Spurs are on transfers. He'd never get a shout there and needs to be playing but they'd still want some form of value for him.
Wasn't enamoured with him last year, but easy to forget how he was coming back off a pretty horrific injury. And if he plays to the potential he had earlier in his career, the add-ons will be worth it. Warbs clearly likes him a lot and it's nice to be a player's preferred destination.
Assuming it's all true..!

I'll be pleased if he has signed - Think there is a lot more to come from him. I will celebrate when it is officially announced - too many rumours and in the know reports that have gone wrong at the last minute. The same reporter claims Chair has signed a 3 year extension. Also great news - if true. The Offie has photos of the first day back on Friday and I think I spotted Amos in one of the group shots so it looks good. Maybe the club is waiting for their new "announce the next signing' competition to be won before it announces anything. Now all we need is the rest of the Mykonos holiday group to sign extensions and we are looking up - but then we will have no transfer cash coming in to buy a striker and centre back - although the BFG was back with the rest of the squad at the training gound on Friday as well. Hope not, it doesn't close for another 3 weeks. Listening to MW's explanation on Wishio, the prize is to announce the next signing after the competition ends. That's Sept 9th. It would be a bit of a bummer for the winner if we've done all our business before then.

Medical underway: Rangers target set for move after 7-figure rival bid accepted By Wayne Veysey -17th August 2020 at 8:06am1 Lyndon Dykes is undergoing a QPR medical after Rangers pulled out of the running to sign him from Livingston this window. The Light Blues registered their interest in the striker, 24, earlier this summer but have since signed forward duo Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten. A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Dykes is now on the verge of signing for English Championship outfit QPR after they had a bid worth up to £2million accepted by Livi. Dykes did not feature for the SPL outfit in their goalless draw against Rangers yesterday afternoon although he was present at the stadium. He has been granted permission by Livi to discuss personal terms with QPR and put the finishing touches to a seven-figure transfer. Livingston previously turned down two offers for the Australian-born player, who they expect to conclude his move “over the course of the week”. The fee exceeds the £1m received from Celtic for David Fernandez in 2002. Rangers had also been keeping tabs on Dykes but subsequently turned their attention elsewhere to strengthen their attack. The Australian was one of the outstanding non-Celtic and Rangers players in the Scottish Premiership last season, scoring 12 goals and provided 10 assists in 33 appearances in all competitions. Speculation has surrounded his future after he claimed he could thrive at Rangers. Barnsley had also been keen on Dykes and table an offer for him but they have been outbid by the west London outfit.

Seems we just need to agree terms with Lynton - NOT a foregone conclusion*. No idea just how good he is (weren't we were all excited when we signed Connor Washington after all...), but the fact that Celtic and Rangers were after him counts for something in my book. Comments from the Livingston manager also make me think he's the 'right sort' too: “I spoke to Lyndon and told him he’ll do well down there if he embraces it like he did here. Don’t go there and think you’ve made it.
“Go and buy in to what they are doing and see if you can improve again. It’s another level but knowing his traits and personality, he’ll thrive on it.
“There are some centre halves down there who will know they are in a game."
"He goes with the good grace of the club. We're buzzing for the big man. He's embraced how we work. Every single one of us are over the moon for him. But everybody's job at the club just got that little bit harder".At 24, he's also the perfect age. Let's hope we get this over the line. * Though as an Aussie, our proximity to Earls Court must weigh heavily in our favour!

Way we play, holding the ball up, playing others in and chipping in with goals is what seems to work. Plus I like the idea of him bullying CBs - was a strength of Hugill's and frankly we're quite a 'nice' team. Bit of bite would be very welcome.

www.qpr.co.uk/news/club-news/luke-amos-completes-permanent-qpr-switch/LUKE Amos has completed a permanent transfer to QPR from Tottenham Hotspur, signing a three-year deal with the club for an undisclosed fee. The 23-year-old midfielder spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan with the R’s and is now looking forward to a sustained period in west London. Amos told http://www.qpr.co.uk: “It’s really good to be back. I think I can kick on and show everyone what I can do. I don’t think I showed half of what I am capable of last year. LUKE AMOS Share /media/40619/amos-3.jpg “Last year, I came here on loan, played games and really enjoyed the opportunity that the gaffer (Mark Warburton) gave me. “For him to bring me back and to be here for another three years – I’m really looking forward to pushing on and doing well. “It’s an amazing group here, I’ve made some really good friends – as soon as I arrived, I was made to feel very welcome. Having a good group and the opportunity to play is all you can really ask for.” He continued: “I think last year was about getting used to the level. Now that my injury is behind me and a year of Championship football is, too, I think I can kick on and show everyone what I can do. “I don’t think I showed half of what I am capable of last year. Hopefully I can impress everyone this season – I’m excited to get going.” R’s boss Warburton is pleased to secure the services of Amos, who had been at Tottenham since the age of nine, saying: “I am delighted to get this done and welcome Luke on board. “There has been a lot of good work done by Les Ferdinand and the Board, likewise at Spurs. “Luke got over a nasty knee injury to play 35 games for us last season and we saw him getting stronger and more confident as the campaign progressed. “I believe he can thrive and really kick on from here.” Warburton is looking forward to seeing Amos develop in the coming months, adding: “He plays and trains with a real intensity, he has a hunger to win and a desire to learn. “He has a real passion for the game. “With those fantastic traits Luke has enormous potential.”

From the Sydney Morning Herald. Naturally I'd like him to represent Australia! www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/qpr-bound-striker-to-choose-scotland-over-socceroos-report-20200818-p55mxu.htmlQPR-bound striker to choose Scotland over Socceroos: reportBy Vince Rugari August 18, 2020 — 7.02pm The Socceroos believe they still have a chance of tying down Lyndon Dykes despite reports the QPR-bound striker is set to pledge his international future to Scotland. Dykes is closing in on a record £2 million ($3.6 million) transfer to English Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers from Livingston, the Scottish club where he has enjoyed a breakout season. There are few Australian strikers playing consistently at a high level in Europe, and the QPR move could give Dykes a platform to challenge the likes of Adam Taggart for a regular spot in the Socceroos. But the late-blooming 24-year-old, who was born on the Gold Coast and also spent time in Canberra as a child, may never pull on the green and gold with reports from Scotland suggesting he has finally settled his international allegiance. The Scottish Sun is reporting that Dykes has told close friends he wants to play for Scotland, where his parents are originally from, rather than Australia. Dykes has publicly changed his mind several times since breaking into the senior team at Livingston, where he scored 12 goals in 33 games this season. In November, he told the Herald: "Obviously I can play for Scotland as well ... but if both of them were on the table, I'd love to play for Australia." As recently as July he told British media he was "pretty sure" but not "100 per cent" which option he would choose. A spokesperson for Football Federation Australia said it had heard nothing official from Dykes and that the Socceroos were still hopeful of winning him over. Graham Arnold's assistant, Rene Meulensteen, visited Dykes in Scotland earlier this year, watched him play and took him out for coffee to discuss where he could fit in the Australian set-up. FFA remains confident that Australia's track record of qualifying for major tournaments may yet sway Dykes from Scotland, who haven't made a World Cup appearance since 1998 and last reached the Euro finals in 1996. His sister, Hollie, represented Australia in gymnastics at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, winning two gold medals, a silver and a bronze. She said earlier this year she was trying to convince him to play for the Socceroos. "Obviously my sister wants me to go with Australia because she represented Australia, but it's not as easy as that," he told the BBC. "In future, it will come out to the public, but at the moment I am concentrating on my club football."
