Interesting to see Warnock's Boro beat Millwall 0-2 away this afternoon. Happy we got those three points under our belt at the weekend and all-but assured our survival.

Not unhappy about that side.
In the absence of a CF, chance for Oteh to shine perhaps. He's not the tallest though, perhaps he's more of a Jermaine Defoe... let's hope!

Chair & Eze playing central behind two forwards is cocceding space all over the pitch for Wigan to exploit, The Cameron ballet act was amusing as well!
I don't think I've ever come across a 3-3-2-2 formation before!
Amos or Bettache must come on for the secomnd half.

HT, 1-0 down.
We look a bit toothless, which I supposed you'd expect. Lumley has done alright, nothing he could do about the goal, Moore hammered it. Kakay doing well too, though weird he is so often left up against Moore, who has a good foot in height on him.
Cameron and Ball not having great games. Former just looks loose - missed the ball completely and fell over at one point. Ball's movement has actually been decent, but some loose passes. Up top, we just aren't getting Eze, BOS and Chair on the ball enough - Oteh hasn't been poor but the ball is not sticking high up the pitch. Which is a double issue as it is leaving all sorts of gaps, particularly wide, when Wigan break.

15 to go - at least the BBC is reporting we're pressing a bit now, with Chair having had a good effort, well saved by their keeper.

No we didn't. We have trouble scoring goals

Oh well, final score 0-1.
Can't begrudge Wigan 3pts given their situation, though thought we might have shown a bit more (well, from the various mathc text feeds and radio snippets I heard...).
I'd have been happy with two draws away at Boro and Wigan, so 3pts is fine.

Had a bit of a rally second half but it soon dropped off - thought we were poor the last 20 mins.
Thought Shodipo looked good again when he came on, and an OK showing from the lesser-spotted Jack Clarke. As Sinton pointed out on comms, frustrating seeing us have a free kick about 40 yards out, 7 mins to go, a goal down and we pass it back to Lumley.
Suppose a lot of this is quite predictable. We've scored 60 odd goals this season, but 30 of those come from two strikers - one is gone, the other is injured.

This is not intended to be critical of MW & the remainder of this season should be used to look at players.
However, I thought he picked individuals tonight rather than pick a team. The first half we were so unbalanced with only Kamne & Manning giving any width at all, but if they went forward that left Ball in midfield by himself.
Chair had our one clear chance, but like Hugill & Amos in previous games, he failed to convert when he should have. We wouldn't have deserved a point though!

Normal service resumed last night then.
Should be safe after Sundays result against Boro, but another 3 pts wouldn't go amiss.

Well even if Hull win tonight and taking Wigan out of the equation , just in case they get a reprieve, we are 7 points above with 4 games remaining.
With most of the bottom team playing each other and Barnsley facing Brentford and Leeds, really can’t see Luton or Barnsley getting more than 50 pts. Sure one of the others below us like Charlton, Stoke will only win a maximum of 2 from 4 Games giving them 52 pts.
Sheff Weds form WDLLL is almost as bad as ours since we returned, so let’s get the win anyway and we could be mathematically safe by the weekend.

Chair had our one clear chance, but like Hugill & Amos in previous games, he failed to convert when he should have. We wouldn't have deserved a point though! I see what you mean, though I find it difficult to assess cos I don't know the thinking behind the shape. Completely agree that the lack of width when we started left Ball isolated. It also dragged him allover the pitch as whenever an attack broke down it takes a lot of positional sense and discipline to sort it out. Like, whenever Manning and Kane broke forward and the attack broke down, you've then get Ball having to try and snuff out danger when Wigan countered. If they broke up a wing, you've got Ball having to drift wide, but you've also got Kakay and Barbet being sucked out into the space vacated by Kane and Manning to try and sort it out. You end up with players dragged all over the park. Fine perhaps if that's the preferred and drilled playstyle, but it clearly ain't. Is the five at the back shape a pragmatic response to how soft we were against Charlton and Barnsley? And/or is that down to personnel available? As in, if you've got ~6 defensive players available (adding in Masterson on the bench) but only Oteh available up top (who either isn't a '1' or MW doesn't see him as capable of fulfilling that) and a flexible bunch of attacking midfielders, is this shape just seen as making the best of what you've got? Or maybe it was an experiment? We looked better for switching to 4 at the back with Clarke and Shodipo on the wings (when Kane went off and Kakay slotted in at RB). Boringly I think a good chunk of it is missing the key part of the puzzle of Warburton's preferred shape - a striker capable of providing a focal point and a target for our attacking midfield talent to play off. Even at our best yesterday, it felt a bit like trying to force the attack through a funnel - fast moving, a lot of bodies but no focused conclusion. Good runs, plenty of crosses but no tip of the sword.
