Channel hopping on the radio. I caught the end of an interview that Andros Townsend was giving about gambling addiction.
He has apparently been an addict since he went out on loan as a youngster. The changing room he joined had an incredible gambling culture and he became addicted.
He did not name the club. He apparently placed a £40k bet - and lost!
I think he is being quite brave in coming out and talking about his problems, but it does emphasize how young players are thrust into the limelight and paid huge sums of money, loads of free time and then given little protection.
Looking back he had 9 loans in 4 years as a Tottenham youngster.
QPR were the 9th loan club back in January 2013 - he was 21. He played 12 games for us scoring 2 goals.) I thought he was a pretty good loan signing at the time.
Looking at the other clubs, I would think that we are probable favourites...... (Yeovil Town, Leyton Orient, Milton Keynes Dons, Ipswich Town, Watford, Millwall, Leeds United & Birmingham City)
It could have been any on the list, but our dressing room at the time looked as follows:
Rob Green
Samba Diakite
Armand Traore
Sean Derry
Christopher Samba
Clint Hill
Ji-Sung Park
Adel Taarabt
Shaun Wright-Phillips
Jamie Mackie
Suk-Young Yun
Esteban Granero
Nedum Onouha
Jermaine Jenas
Loic Remy
Jose Bosingwa
Fabio Da Silva
Tal Ben Haim
Junior Hoilett
Bobby Zamora
Brian Murphy
Julio Cesar
Jay Bothroyde
D J Campbell
Stephane Mbia
Happy Days!
Oh, and the manager at the time of his QPR loan - Harry Redknapp!
