Thought we were the better side last night and a tad unlucky not to win. But as Warbs keeps saying, we are not taking our chances. I was pleased to see that Barbet and Manning played well on the left and we looked so much better with Manning going forward and crossing. But at the same time, I never really expected Hugill to score from any of the crosses. I think in Pugh and Hugill we have two quite unusual players. Hugill - it almost seems like a timing issue with Hugill. He is either too soon or two late and ends up scrambling or leaning back. He has scored some decent goals for us and of course he would be playing for West Ham and not QPR if he was flawless. He is quite frustrating to watch because he is so near and yet to far. We have had others up front like him in Agyemang, Bothroyde and even Washington. They lift you up and and then disappoint. Players like Austin were so much more clinical in the box. Wells was clinical, but it was all about confidence with him - good runs and poor runs of form. But back to Hugill, it seems to be a shortfall in technique. Can it be coached to fruition? What do others think? However, it seems that is what a club currently gets in return for £8m -£10m striker bids. Pugh - I think that he must be our current Marmite squad player. There are those that rate him highly and those that do not think he warrants his place in the starting 11. I do comprehend that he tracks back better than some of our other 'number 10s' and that he can be 'tidy'. But last night, I am not sure what he gave us going forward. The sort of player who makes up a lot of ground only to concede possession. Works hard 'puts in a shift' and quite useful if we are defending a lead. But not likely to find you that spark of magic to create a goal. Ideally, I would be happy to have both Hugill and Pugh on the bench to bring them on when the circumstances suit, but neither would be starting players for me. N.B. I realise that we do not have any other striking options now of course. I was hoping Chair would get 20 minutes for Pugh last night. But against that, Warbs played his experienced 'trustees' last night and got a decent performance and a goalless draw - so what do I know? But should Pugh get a contract extension in the Summer? What price would make Hugill worth purchasing in the Summer? Who else is out there that we can reasonably afford? We need strikers for next season and we are still bruised from lower league searching with Washington.....

I also would have taken Pugh off last night, but I would haave brought on Clarke!
I did think that he had a reasonable game & helped us to become more solid. The only reason to have made the change would have been to try to win the match rather than to avoid defeat.
Swansea had provided no threat until Kane came on, but it would be hard to blame him for their late flurry as he did nothing wrong! Hall & Barbet were in total control until that time.
Another player who divides opinion is Cameron. Some on LFW had him MOM while I thought he was the worst player on the pitch! He certainly did some good things, but his touch was awful at times & led to what little problems we had. My wife was concerned for my health when I felt cause to scream at him in the first half! He did improve after the break though.
Hugill worked hard & made some good runs, but as at Huddersfield, he should have scored early on.
I don't see either Pugh or Hugill as long time for us & I would prefer to buy a Lyle Taylor for the same price as Hugill would fetch. Not that there is a chance of that!
It was a game we should have won, but we could have lost late on to a possible penalty.

There's a good striker there in Hugill but he seems to be going through a confidence crisis at the moment.
At this stage of his career he's nowhere near ready for the Premier League so he's not realistically going to be on the bench at West Ham next season.
I'd like to see him back here on loan again next season with a strike partner. I do think that if he's handled right and happy he's capable of more than what we are seeing right now.
Pugh's best days are behind him, understandably so too. But he brings experience and I imagine he's a good veteran influence in the dressing room. There's always room for players like that in any club.
He is a useful bench addition and in a 46 game season you need experienced options.

I thought that Pugh was decent last night, I particularly think that he gets Manning out of trouble a lot of the time and works his socks off. That was his first 90 mins I think, give him a couple more games and we’ll see the difference. Ball for me on the other hand is very average.
Manning, now I know that I may be in the minority here but, apart from being a very good crosser of the ball, gives away possession far too often and for me this is a position that we really could improve on.
In my opinion Cameron was immense. Yes, his touch did leave a bit to be desired at times but he was so strong in the middle and for me he controlled the game.
I’m sure that Hugill will improve with more game time so no question that we should stick with him.
Kelly gives the defence much more confidence than Lumley does and he is a vast improvement.
Eze must read too many of his own write ups, although no questioning his potential his contributions do not warrant an almost guaranteed starting place. BOS is far more dangerous, improves game on game.
Still happy with what MW has delivered so far as I for one was fearing the worst in August.

the sub was a joke a fb for a fb thought if we brought on an attacking option we might have nicked it ,why did we sign Clarke from Spurs and bring Oteh back from Bradford when they can't even get on the pitch ? that was the reason why he was called back from Leeds because he was not getting any playing time now we have the same scenario I don think Spurs would be too pleased about this so I think Warburton has to make some big decisions in the future about where Clarke actually fits in going forward

However, with JFH as a pundit......at one point he referred to Hugill as 'Sharp'.

A couple of points to make - first is I do not think it is co-incidence that when we have mange duo keep a new clean sheets the team has included a few more experienced players. Pugh and Cameron are the types who you do not notice much during a game but their presence is missed when they are not there, but maybe disguised by the more attractive play of some younger players. Second - Hugill - one goal in the last 14 games ? I am sure this is a confidence issue. I have watched the full Swansea game a couple of times and replayed the very early miss from Hugill that probably would have given us the 3 points. He should have buried that chance even though he had a bit of pressure from the defender. The keep was stranded and a cool head side foot into either corner was all that was needed. Instead it was an almost close your eyes and blast it and hope it goes in attempt. An inform or confident striker would have put that away. The problem now is how to get his confidence back. With Wells gone I cannot see us resting him so he has to play his way through it. I have the feeling if he gets one then more will follow but we need them soon. Hugill notched today so hopefully that will kickstart him now.

Re Manning, he's not the best defender in the world but I think today showed that he has plenty to give going forward - we're more attacking minded with him in the team. Also I don't think Wallace is a good alternative at right back as we were still conceding from that flank with him in the team. Manning is always looking to get forward and causes problems for the opposition even if his distribution could be better. Actually, I think he defended better when he was brought into the team after McLaren left last year.
