If we sign Cameron then it would be to play centre back. That's his natural position where he played 150+ premier league games for Stoke. Although he did well as a defensive midfielder under McLaren, I think we need him at centre back with Leister (who might still leave?) and Berbel. Hall can't be relied upon yet due to injuries, so we still need another solid and reliable player for that position in my view. I've seen a few posts on message boards speculating that Leistner may leave, but am not aware of anything remotely solid beneath it. We have Hall, Furlong, Masterson and Ball as cover, I'm happy with that. But then I wouldn't have signed two midfielders on loan either......

Surely Lumley is still our number one keeper unless he is sold? I like Leistner as a leader - something we really lack - but he was desperately slow at times last season

I think that’s why they signed Rangel to be leader in defence and his experience. We are also linked to a West Ham midfielder that was on loan at Charlton last year and would imagine will be heading back to the valley over us, if there’s anything in it surely we don’t need any more midfielders.

I think that there are two key variables for QPR: 1) What is our current average weekly wage target - and who are the players exceeding that average 2) How cheap can loans be secured and or free transfers to replace the high earners. In the case of Cameron, it is probably impossible for Stoke to sell him due to his wages and his age. He has also apparently stated that he wants to return to QPR Stoke have 2 options, buy him out of his contract on a compromise, or accept what ever contribution they can raise against his wage. QPR are in a strong negotiation position for a change. He should be cheaper than he was last season. But players like Hall, Goss, Scowen and Leistner are probably some of our top earners now (once Luongo goes). If decent offers come in, I think that QPR may well snatch and bank. There were stories of unrest regarding Leistner last term, but nothing recently. Scowen lost his place, won it back but is apparently no longer head rat. Goss and Hall are the reverse of the Cameron situation. I wonder if we would accept any offer at all to avoid loans for them.

"Midfielder Massimo Luongo will not be making the trip to Austria and Warburton has explained why.
He said: “Massimo has been a loyal servant of the club for the last four years and his passion and commitment for QPR has always been there for everyone to see out on the pitch.
“Massimo’s future could now lie away from QPR and therefore it is important that we prepare for that potential eventuality. We will give opportunities in Austria to some of the club’s younger players who have come through the academy, such as Charlie Owens and Charlie Rowan.”"

No Wheeler either, as I thought we will be saying goodbye to both before we give away for free.

Owens contract ran out on 30th June, so he must have been given an extension. I expect Wheeler will be of interest to Mk Dons. Goss off to Scotland again? Kakay needs game time and with Furlong, Rangel and Ball all ahead of him, he is not going to get a sniff at QPR, so a loan I guess. Interesting that there has not been any leaks regarding Luongo interest - maybe Leeds, but much of our dealings this term has been sudden without warning. 4 weeks time the new season starts!

I doubt that Joe Lumlery would have been included in the full Scotland squad if he was of that nationality.

From WLS www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/luongo-left-out-of-qprs-pre-season-squad-ahead-of-moveLuongo left out of QPR’s pre-season squad ahead of moveBy West London Sport 06/07/2019 QPR: Massimo Luongo Massimo Luongo has been left out of QPR’s squad for their pre-season trip to Austria ahead of an expected move away from the club. West London Sport revealed last month that Rangers are looking to sell the Australian midfielder, who has a year remaining on his contract. And manager Mark Warburton confirmed on Saturday that Luongo had been omitted from the squad for the trip because his future lies elsewhere. Warburton told the club website: “Massimo has been a loyal servant of the club for the last four years and his passion and commitment for QPR has always been there for everyone to see out on the pitch. “Massimo’s future could now lie away from QPR and therefore it is important that we prepare for that potential eventuality. “We will give opportunities in Austria to some of the club’s younger players who have come through the academy, such as Charlie Owens and Charlie Rowan.” Midfielder Owens, 21, joined QPR in 2017 after being released by Tottenham. Rowan, also 21, is a defender who was signed in November. He was a free agent, having been released by Watford last summer.

So do I, and to paraphrase Ricky, the club have become very good about keeping their potential dealings quiet so we will just have to wait to find out who and where. I am quite pleased when these signings are announced and the run up has been either silent or relatively short - it feels more controlled and professional. But at the same time, the absence of any forwards arriving makes me anxious that we could end up doing last minute panic deals. If we do not bring in any other players for defence or midfield, it would not unduly worry me, but not so up front. But keep the nerve Ricky, keep the nerve!

Well we have parted company with an entire team (assuming Luongo departs). Not a bad team on paper: I wonder how much it would cost to purchase a team like that today, paying their full market value? My guess, upwards of £15m. Ingram Cousins, Baptiste, Lynch, Bidwell Wszolek, Freeman, Luongo, Wells Smith Hamed.

For the record from the Offie on 3 July re Dieng re-signing. A good move I think. you need three good keepers although one needs to go out on loan. Wouldn't surprise me if Dieng wasn't off on loan to Scotland again. www.qpr.co.uk/news/club-news/seny-dieng-signs/Seny Dieng signs until 2021Paul Morrissey @pjmorrissey77 SENY Dieng has agreed a new two-year deal at QPR, keeping him at the club until 2021. The 24-year-old goalkeeper has been with the R’s since 2017. Last season he spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Stevenage and the second half of the season in the Scottish Premier League with Dundee. Dieng made 16 appearances for the League Two side and a further 18 in Scotland with the Dark Blues. I am very happy to extend my stay. SENY DIENGAfter penning his new contract, Dieng told http://www.qpr.co.uk: “I am delighted to sign a new deal. “I have really enjoyed my time here already so am very happy to extend my stay. “My recent loan spells were vital for me. It gave me the opportunity to play regular first-team football and now I am ready to kick on here.” Following the summer arrival of Liam Kelly from Livingston as well as the presence of Joe Lumley, Dieng knows he faces a battle on his hands to secure the position between the posts at QPR but that is a test he is relishing. “They are both great goalkeepers but I am up for the challenge,” he added.

Piece on the three way competition for the keeper position from the Offie Wardy: It’s between the three of themAndy Watkins @andywa7kins GOALKEEPER coach Gavin Ward insists ‘it can only be a good thing’ for QPR to have three challenging for the number 1 spot. The arrival of Liam Kelly from Livingston provides stiff competition for Joe Lumley, who claimed the gloves for much of 2018/19 during a breakthrough season for the R's academy product. And that was before Seny Dieng who, fresh from a successful stint of his own in Scotland, signed a new contract last week to commit his future with Rangers. The goalkeepers are putting in some serious work, getting fitter day by day. GAVIN WARD
“From our point of view as a club and from my point of view as a coach, we’ve got three very good young goalkeepers aged 25 and under,” Ward told www.qpr.co.uk. “That can only be a good thing and it’s my job to improve them.” Kelly was the first of eight new players brought in by Mark Warburton so far this summer. The Scot hasn't taken long to adjust to life in England, as Ward says: “Liam’s settled in very well, he’s a good character. He’s really open to suggestions and just wants to improve. “He’s got a fantastic attitude and I’m sure he’ll be a great addition to the squad.” Meanwhile, another goalkeeper who shone north of the border was one of the R’s own. Dieng impressed whilst on loan at Dundee and was rewarded with a new two-year deal. “It was important for Seny to go away and get some game time,” Ward added. “We knew he was going to have plenty to do and he did really well. “He’s come back here, he’s got a new contract and now it’s between the three of them.” Going in the opposite direction, Rangers bid farewell to Matt Ingram who departed for Hull City. Ward wishes Ingram well, saying: “Sometimes for a goalkeeper it just doesn’t happen for you at a particular club. "I think Matt was a victim of circumstances; last year we had a bad start and the decision was made to change him. Joe came in and obviously the rest is history. “It’s a new lease of life for Matt now at Hull. I’m sure he’ll go and show us all what he’s capable of and we wish him all the best.” As for the current crop of 'keepers, the trio are busy behind the scenes on the R's pre-season training camp in Austria stepping up their preparations for the 2019/20 campaign. “As goalkeepers we work hard,” Ward said. “People don’t always see that because come game day the outfield players are doing their bit and all the work – with the goalkeepers it’s more of a mental thing. “We’re just over two weeks in now and they’re putting in some serious work, getting fitter day by day and once we get that fitness we can start looking more technically. We’ve got another four weeks so we’ve got plenty of time to do that and make sure we’re where we want to be come the start of the season.”

Been watching our dealings unfold from my hospital bed - unable to post until now! Cannot pretend that I fully understand our dealings that are clearly (again) being driven by Warburton. But I reserve judgement until the window closes. I would not be surprised to see Sir Les leave in the near future though.

I see it as:
G: Kelly/Lumley/Barnes/Dieng - we need 3; one will go out on loan.
RB: Rangel. Not sure if Kakay is in the plans, may go out on loan. Ball can play RB too may get one more in. LB: Wallace or Manning. Not sure if Hamalainen is in the plans, may go out on loan. CB: Hall (don't write him off as injury prone now he's had a good pre-season)/Barbet/Masterson/Ball/Owens. Think we are looking for one more in and trying to off-load Leistner if we do. DM: Amos/Smith/Scowen/Cameron (if we get him)/Owens. Cameron can also cover CB. Doubt if Goss is in the plans. Luongo will probably get sold before transfer deadline day. If not, bonus! ALM and ARM: BOS/Shodipo/Judge (if we can get him). Maybe one more? Doubt if Wheeler is in the plans. ACM: Eze/Chair F: Mlakar/Walker. Oteh might be loaned out if we get 1/2 more in which I suspect is the plan. As may Walker.

So, 2 weeks to go and the squad appears to stand at 28. Assuming the target is 24 or 25 what transactions are likely before the Huddersfield game? I think that incoming will be 4 more: Kane, Worrell, Hogan & Judge Outgoing (loan, exchange or sell) will be: Luongo (in exchange for Worrell?), Leistner, Goss, Hamalainen, Wheeler, Kakay and either Oteh or Walker. So 25 if we name 4 keepers, 24 if we only name 3. Perhaps some of the outgoings will be used as ways of easing the Judge deal. If the above wass to happen, then I think we will look ok, but probably wishful thinking.

Ricky,
Who is Worrell please?
Hogan has been a rumour for a while & I've read about Kane today, but I've not seen one word associating us with anyone called Worrell!
Were Chelsea pretending that they had the England strike force of Sterling & Kane? Or perhaps we thought we could convert them to goalscorers!

Ricky, Cameron has always been a defender that can cover in midfield & right back. I expect that he is the replacement for Leistner. The surprise was that we didn't play him in this position last season alongside Toni!

To be honest I don't know much about Judge apart from that he looked good four years ago! A few Ipswich fans tell me that he is their best player, but has not looked outstanding for them. What Rangers fans (perhaps the club as well) don't realise is that for the first time in years, Ipswich don't have a cash problem. This applies to this season at least due to sell on clauses for Mings & a minimum of one other player (name forgotten, but I think another centre half). Therefore, Ipswich won't sell unless we offer their valuation & I doubt that we will be doing that. Especially as their pissed off with Rangers over our approach! Personally, I would rather go with Shodipo and/or Chair.
