BASSINI WANTS CHARLTON TAKEOVER, BOLTON ALSO AN OPTION Laurence Bassini has told Sky Sports News he will decide over the weekend whether he intends to press ahead with a bid to buy Charlton Athletic, or instead attempt to resurrect a deal for Bolton. Charlton released a club statement on Friday evening saying that a process to change the owner was underway. Charlton have not confirmed the identity of the potential new owner, but a deal has been agreed by Tahnoon Nimer to sell his shares in East Street Investments. A provisional agreement for Bassini to buy the club was discussed at last week's board meeting. However, former chairman Matt Southall retains 35 per cent of the shares and has so far rejected the notice of sale, having not been told who the buyer is. Bassini's interest in Charlton, meanwhile, will also depend upon whether he wants to continue his long-running legal battle to takeover Bolton Wanderers. EFL rules state that no one person can own two clubs at the same time.

Hmmm which club shall I buy? It proves it is just a junket toy for people like that. No heart and soul investment, just bragging rights.

In my opinion, Bassini can't afford either and he just wants to be seen in the press. Its an ego trip that will end in nothing happening and both clubs suffering for it. Shame as both a decent clubs with good fans

WHY DID BASSINI WALK AWAY? Laurence Bassini says there were numerous difficulties with the Chartlon deal, including the presence of former owner Roland Duchatelet who still owns The Valley and also Charlton’s training ground. Instead Bassini is investigating whether he has a legal case to unravel the takeover of Bolton Wanderers, having now been officially signed over the shares of Inner Circle Investments, the holding company of former owner Ken Anderson that previously owned the club. It leaves as many as four other interested parties who are still in talks to buy Charlton, including former Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins who told Sky Sports News earlier this week that he had allowed an exclusivity arrangement for him to buy the club for £1m to expire. Charlton need to pay wages and other bills totalling more than £400k by the end of this week.
