With Eze's performance today his value must have gone up a million or two quid!

the72.co.uk/151351/huddersfield-town-amongst-clubs-ready-to-swoop-for-qpr-defender/Huddersfield Town are amongst the clubs ready to swoop for Queens Park Rangers defender Niko Hamalainen in the January transfer window according to Football Insider. German giants Hertha Berlin and Los Angeles FC are also believed to interested in Hamalainen who joined SPL side Kilmarnock in August on a season-long loan and has since alerted other clubs to his availability with a series of impressive performances. He appears to be surplus to requirements at QPR and with his contract expiring next summer his potential suitors are eyeing up a cheaper fee in January hoping to land the defender without having to use up a huge amount of their transfer kitty. The versatile defender, who can play at centre-back as well as left-back, has only made six appearances for the London club who are keen to recoup a fee for him as opposed to allowing him to leave in the summer on a free transfer. The Finnish international has made 16 appearances for Kilmarnock this season and is a regular starter in the side. The defender has also had loan spells in the MLS since his arrival at QPR in 2018. Hamalainen is in line to represent his country at next summer’s European Championship after their first qualification to a major finals and with international pedigree on his CV, this is another string to his bow which is attracting other clubs. Danny Cowley is looking to add further reinforcements as, despite their recent improvements, are still hoping to distance themselves further from the Championship relegation zone.

Brentford teenager Jaden Brissett on radar of Aston Villa, Charlton and QPR after sensational form for club's B side Brentford youngster Jaden Brissett, 18, is on the radar of several clubs Attacking midfielder has scored 12 goals and registered nine assists in 18 games Premier League side Aston Villa are thought to be following progress of Brissett Brentford youngster Jaden Brissett is on the radar of several clubs after his outstanding form for the Championship club's B side. The 18-year-old attacking midfielder has scored 12 goals and registered nine assists in 18 matches since the start of the campaign. Aston Villa are thought to be following the progress of Brissett, who is understood to be out of contract in the summer, while Charlton and Queens Park Rangers are also monitoring developments. Brentford youngster Jaden Brissett (left) is on the radar of several clubs after impressive form Brissett has recently returned from a loan with National League side Maidenhead United. Brissett signed an 18-month deal with Brentford last January after leaving Norwich, where he had turned down a contract offer. Brentford B is a single squad of players with aspirations of playing for the first team. They do not compete in a league structure but organise friendlies against teams from this country and abroad, as they believe these will give their players a better test than the reserve leagues. When Brissett joined Brentford, B team head coach Lars Friis said: 'We've been looking at Jaden for a while and have been really impressed by his ability during his trial period. He's a player with great potential, who can already play in a number of positions.' www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7781149/Brentford-teenager-Jaden-Brissett-radar-Aston-Villa-Charlton-QPR.html

Couple of reports we’re in talks with spurs over Eze transfer with two players coming our way in the deal! The particular Spurs source is usually reliable and was the first to announce the Amos loan deal. Amos is one of the said players coming back the other way it seems - so I think that this rumour may well be true - perhaps the leak is even Amos himself. I thought that we mat well try to sign Amos on a permanent basis and his continuing injury problems probably means that Spurs would listen to an offer.

Exclusive: Wolves make move to beat Everton to signing of £5m-valued London 23-yr-old By Pete O'Rourke - Wolves have made an approach to sign QPR star Ryan Manning in January, Football Insider can reveal. The 23-year-old has been in outstanding form for the Championship side this season after being converted into a left-back by manager Mark Warburton. A Wolves has told Football Insider the club have made contact with QPR to express their interest in signing Manning in the upcoming window. Manning is also on the radar of Everton and Newcastle United as they assess players who are potentially available and can be signed at a reasonable price. The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international is out of contract at Loftus Road next summer and his price tag in January would be around £5million. One possibility open to QPR is that they trigger the option to extend his contract by 12 months. That would fend off interest in January and tie him to the club until the summer of 2021. Like Everton and Newcastle, Wolves are in the market for a solid defender who can fill in at left-back and is capable of operating higher up the pitch and providing accurate deliveries into the box. Manning has started all 22 of QPR’s Championship matches this season at left-back – as well as both of their League Cup fixtures – after spending most of his career in midfield. Manning has shone in his new role, scoring two goals and supplying three assists as well as topping virtually all of of Rangers’ different stats charts. www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/wolves-transfer-manning-everton-newcastle-17455518

So if Eze and Manning go then its the same old crap rest of the season we have had last few years. I cannot understand why we let go of our best players if they want to stay that is.

Not necessarily, the hope is that you make a profit on those players, improve year on year and use that money to rinse and repeat the process. And in the mean time, get good use out of them.
Microcosm of that would be...
Freeman (ÂŁ500k from Bristol City sold for ~ÂŁ5m). Our best player by a mile.
Furlong (from our youth setup, sold for ~ÂŁ1.5m).
Luongo (unsure, part of that Gladwin joint deal so ~ÂŁ2m for both, sold for ÂŁ900k).
Then the other way, you've got examples like Ilias Chair (next to nothing, straight into the U23s) and Eze (free - released from Millwall's youth and was working part-time in Tesco).
Depends how you mean same old crap, really. If you mean, Championship football and not likely to go up in the near future, yes. Otherwise, no. We were a relegation-haunted side last two seasons, with no identity and few sellable assets. Now we are an inconsistent but midtable side with more sellable assets.
Selling good players doesn't mean you have to be crap, it is about how you reinvest. Norwich sold Maddison for a LOT of money and built a promotion side. Brentford have sold off their best players almost every single season, make a profit, reinvest and still get better.

So if Eze and Manning go then its the same old crap rest of the season we have had last few years. I cannot understand why we let go of our best players if they want to stay that is. I understand your frustration, but as Bow says, it is what it is. We all have to suck it up and move on. The Financial Football Model today means that clubs either sell their best assets or flaunt the rules (like Wolves, Villa & Forrest etc.) and stick two fingers up to the establishment. A club can have the wealthiest owners in the world (and ours are loaded) but the choice is still the same. In our case though we are already on a final warning and face draconian measures if we breech again. Our owners do not want to be associated with a second tier selling club, but they too have to suck it up. So Merry Christmas and heres hoping that we are further down the cycle than others and that 2020 sees us develop and succeed.

Yeah, agree.
Same facts but other perspective on it, is that it's a modern football issue rather than just a QPR issue.
We are in a worse position because of how we acted in the last 10 years. But even if we hadn't, the Prem being what it is, football economics being what they are, if we stand still on 12,000ish attendances in the Championship, we lose money. And you get punished for losing too much.
Either you get taken over by a billionaire and you gamble (we've seen that) or you buy/develop low and sell high. There isn't any other option available. The only way round it would be if we gambled on refusing to sell the likes of Eze on the basis that we are going up. But that's not likely innit. The fee we get for him (and it needs to be good, good money) could define our outlook for years to come.

You can be taken over by a billionaire and gamble and do it right way though. Our owners, mainly TF at the time was inept in his decisions, they bought squads of old has beens in most cases and spent millions along the way. If you look at Wolves and many others recently you can get it right. Burnley managed it on far less budget. I seem to recall Bournemouth pumping in quite a lot with there Russian owners and it worked there.
I’m quite happy the way we are going about things but not everyone that throws big bucks at it gets it wrong, just that we were one of the worst case examples .

Don't disagree, but we also got it wrong under the old rules. The threat hanging over us should we err again is also from the old rules. We got it very wrong and cannot crawl out from under that stone. Bournemouth and Leicester were able to pay the fine and move on. We cannot do that. We pay for 10 years and still have the threat hanging over us. So it is what it is. No other club will have to go through what we have because the penalties have changed, but clubs will still suffer.

All true, you can take the money and invest it properly or you can do what we did, like you say. I just meant that there are two main ways of doing it. One is what we are doing and one involves a billionaire, and our personal experience hasn't been great on that front. Not everyone's is, though.

Eze out - disappointing if it happens as he has PL class and possible England caps written all over him with his style of play, ability and attitude, BUT it happens on our terms this Jan or this summer as he's under contract beyond that. So...Amos in? Amos is a player who we probably haven't seen the best of yet and could become a very sellable asset in a year or two (after many outstanding performances for us in the next 12-18 months?). Plus another (potentially good) player? And/or cash? For which we use to top up the little bit we have (and we do have a small kitty) to buy McKenna? McKenna supposedly strengthens our fragile defence and becomes a very sellable asset in a couple of years time for much more than we paid for him. Also, Eze's departure creates more opportunities for Chair and BOS. Therefore we don't need to replace Eze.
Manning out? Again if it happens it happens on our terms this Jan or this summer as he's under contract beyond that. Wallace in so no need to replace Manning. Maybe need a back up at LB though? Hamalainen recalled? but looking more likely to be sold as his contract is up this year. Maybe we have identified someone we can buy for a small, affordable fee? Or is there an academy player ready to make the step up? Maybe use any money from Manning sale to sign Wells permanently?
Astute business by Les Ferdinand tying Eze and Manning to longer contracts so if they go we get good deals in return me thinks. This is how we need to operate for the forseeable future if we are to stay in the Championship/challenge for promotion to PL.

QPR tracking Dundee United star Lawrence Shankland by Eric Nicolson December 30 2019, 8.00am Dundee United may have some bids for Lawrence Shankland to fend off next month, with Queen’s Park Rangers considering making an offer for the Tangerines’ star striker. The London club’s director of football, Les Ferdinand, was at Tannadice for Friday night’s Dundee derby. Other sides down south who had scouts at the 1-1 draw were Brentford, Norwich and Everton. Rangers were also represented. www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/sport/football/dundee-united/1051408/qpr-tracking-dundee-united-star-lawrence-shankland/QPR reportedly mulling over bid for Dundee United hitman Shankland A recent report has claimed that QPR are thinking about lodging a bid for Dundee United striker Lawrence Shankland (Daily Record). Loftus Road director of football Les Ferdinand was in attendance during Friday night’s Dundee derby to cast his eye over the lethal hitman. Whilst he didn’t net in the 1-1 draw, 19 goals already this season shows he knows where the net is. Ferdinand was watching Shankland for QPR on Friday. Shankland’s name has been touted with big names for the duration of 2019 after a brilliant year in the Championship and it’s no surprise to see more big names linked. QPR not the only ones watching Shankland QPR aren’t the only team to have watched Shankland during this match. Other potential suitors include Brentford, Norwich and Everton, who were all present at Friday’s match. Rangers were another team present at Tannadice. It’s QPR though who are thought to have the most serious interest though and are now considering a January bid. They’ve already got a few former SPFL men in their ranks, with Dominic Ball, Liam Kelly and Lee Wallace all arriving in London over the summer, having spent last season in Scotland. QPR have had him watched, but Dundee United won’t let Shankland go for nothing, they’ll be wanting big money. www.nottheoldfirm.com/news/qpr-reportedly-mulling-over-bid-for-dundee-united-hitman-shankland/

Thanks Terry I guess some youngsters we will bring through and occasionally we will pay a fee for one if we think we can improve them and they will improve the team and we can make some money on them along the way. I thinks it just refreshing that we are bringing youngsters through these days and buying a few, there was time when we only bought players over 30. He is very highly rated.

Just posted this on the other thread Jack Clarke to sign for QPR on Loan - Breaking News on Sky a few seconds ago Sign them young on loan , if they prove to be any good get them on a cheap transfer, develop them and sell at a profit. That's the the name of the game for us now as it was for many years in the past. Not sure why it's so difficult to understand. It will happen with Eze , probably Chair and a few others maybe in this window. The choice is sell to survive or go out of business - plus the likes of Pugh are not getting younger, BOS has not signed an extension yet. Worthwhile low cost gamble on someone who will not be breaking into Spuds team in the near future. Read more: qprreport.proboards.com/thread/45804/jack-clarke-sign-loan-breaking?page=1#ixzz6B70gJuVg

From WLS www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-qpr-tottenham-jack-clarke-exits-likelyQPR set to seal loan deal for ClarkeBy David McIntyre 15/01/2020 QPR are today expected to seal a deal to sign winger Jack Clarke on loan from Tottenham. Spurs recently recalled Clarke, 19, from a season-long loan at his former club Leeds – and he could make his R’s debut against the Yorkshire side on Saturday. It will be QPR’s sixth loan of the season, although Matt Smith and Jan Mlakar are set to leave before the end of the month. They were signed on season-long loans in the summer but have been unable to make an impact. Both loans are expected to be terminated, enabling the players to move elsewhere during the transfer window and Rangers to explore other options. Striker Mlakar, 21, has not started a league game since arriving from Brighton. He was signed prior to QPR also bringing in forwards Jordan Hugill and Nahki Wells on season-long loans. Rangers’ priority for the transfer window is to bring in a centre-back, but they would like to buy an up-and-coming striker to act as back-up to Wells and Hugill for the rest of the season with a view to a regular place next term. A number of possible options have been looked at, including Dundee United’s Scotland international Lawrence Shankland. Midfielder Smith, 20, is highly regarded at Manchester City, who gave him a new long-term contract before sending him to Loftus Road on loan. He impressed last season on loan at FC Twente, helping them win the Dutch title, and City are keen for him to pick up more first-team experience. However, Smith has made just eight league appearances, six of them as a substitute, and has been hampered by injury problems. A number of clubs have expressed an interest in taking him on loan for the second half of the season.

QPR interested in young left back Jamie Robson PR's Les Ferdinand will watch Shankland in person vs Hibs as interest in Jamie Robson hots up QPR director of football Les Ferdinand will travel to Dundee to personally scout Lawrence Shankland this weekend. The former Newcastle and England striker has been monitoring Shankland at Dundee United and has had club scouts watch the Scotland cap a number of times already. However, as the race for Shankland's signature hots up given his red-hot form, Ferdinand has decided to mark his interest with a more personal touch and will watch at Tannadice as Dundee United take on Hibs in the Scottish Cup. Lawrence Shankland is good enough to net 50 goals this season, claims Dundee Utd teammate Appere Celtic, Rangers, Blackpool and Middlesbrough are all among a number of clubs who have registered an interest in Shankland this season. The former Ayr United man has scored an incredible 25 goals in 26 games this season for the Arabs. It is understood to be highly unlikely that Dundee United will allow the player to leave this month. So a move in the summer - potentially after he helps them to promotion - looks the most probable. We can also exclusively reveal that QPR are interested in United's left-back Jamie Robson. The defender has played 21 times this season but could be in line for a move to Loftus Road should Rangers make their move. www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/sport/18168287.qprs-les-ferdinand-will-watch-shankland-person-vs-hibs-interest-jamie-robson-hots/

Still comparatively early in the window but more and more clubs are saying it is too expensive and too difficult to do business in the January window. Rather than talk about players leaving I really want us to sign a striker. We cannot afford to keep Hugill next year and Wells must be a salary problem so we need to get at least striker in now or we will be under pressure (and blackmail prices) to get a couple in the summer
Re Eze I would be surprised if he went now unless it is a pure money thing. No point him joining another Championship club and no point going to the PL where he will either be joining a relegation threatened team or end up being loaned out or in an u21 team. He needs to keep doing what he is doing for the rest of the season and keep learning. Looking at the transfer rumours any decent PL club at the moment are looking at signings (mostly foreign players) in the 50 million bracket and with European competition experience. Eze is not at that level yet and If he goes now it will be a "one for the future(maybe)" type move.
Manning - his form has dipped - in and out of the team and after a decent start his defensive weaknesses have been exposed and has lots of competition for a midfield place. If he is unhappy with not being a regular starter I can see him moving but only to another Championship club and then it's a question if anyone will come up with our asking price. It seems that we are not under the same FFP pressure to sell this window and that puts a different light on things. A decent cup run will also help bring in some cash. The way things are shaping up I would not be too disappointed to see Manning go for a reasonable fee as long as we start to line up a full back as cover and eventually to replace Wallace. Wallace seems fit enough now he over his injury that we could get another good season out of him anyway.
10 days to go as Boris would say.
