From his former club, St Ives: Very like Charlie - he'll be a grafter (though he'll have to keep off the pies by the look of that early picture!).

That second goal wasn't bad, it looks as if he has a tad more speed than Charlie. Looking forward to 'seeing' him play (on the radio of course).

R sign striker from Peterborough United
Queens Park Rangers have completed the signing of striker Conor Washington from League One club Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee. The 23-year-old has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract at Loftus Road. He was targeted by Championship club QPR following the recent sale of Charlie Austin to Southampton. "I've proved I can do it at every level I've played at so far, so I don't see any reason why I can't do it here," Washington told the QPR website. "I feel I've improved as a player over the last 18 months. My mentality has changed and I'm a better player for it. AP "But I also feel there's a lot more to come from me and I believe I can properly go on to fulfil my potential at QPR." Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony said earlier this month that he had rejected bids from three clubs for Washington, who was signed from Newport County two years ago. Newport will get 20% of the transfer fee under the terms of the deal that took Washington to London Road. Washington netted 33 goals in his 94 appearances for League One side Posh, scoring 15 of them this season. "Conor is a player I've admired for a while now, so I'm delighted he's agreed to join us," said QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. "He's raw, he's hungry, he's determined. He's quick and he's versatile, which is important. Importantly, he's got the right mentality to be a QPR player."

Raw, hungry, determined. Sounds a bit like the Gladiators in the Roman Coliseum. Just joking, anyone that makes it from St. Ives, I may have met, he was on his way to Loftus Rd, with seven wives. Silly post.
But do wish him all the best of luck.

Why the hell would you play an unproven, at Championship level, striker ahead of Polter who is scoring almost every game? It would be madness. Maybe on the bench to come on for the last five minutes. I can't see him starting at all this season unless Polter gets injured.

Yep, even JFH mentioned he was a "raw" talent. He'll be a bench warmer IMO. We don't do two strikers!

Unless we have new injuries, I'd Stick with the winning team...Have Washington on the bench...Bring him on
Short of a miracle (Winning 2 out of every 3 remaining games); and short of a true implosion, which the win will have eased, we're not going down...Take things a little slowly

In line for a NI call up?! From the Belfast Telegraph www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/washington-is-in-line-for-ni-call-34380345.html?Washington is in line for NI callBy Stuart McKinley PUBLISHED 20/01/2016 Potential Northern Ireland international Conor Washington has landed a £2.8m move to Queens Park Rangers. And the 23-year-old striker could even make his international debut against Wales in March after the Irish FA confirmed that Michael O'Neill's team will play a pre-Euro 2016 friendly in Cardiff. O'Neill has been tracking Washington since discovering he qualifies for Northern Ireland through an Ulster-born grandparent. Washington's 15 goals for Peterborough in League One this season brought him to the attention of a number of clubs, but QPR were first in to hand him a three-year contract. Washington's move will also benefit a former Northern Ireland striker. His former club Newport County, now managed by Warren Feeney, will pocket £560,000 after agreeing a 20 per cent sell-on clause when he joined Posh in the summer of 2014. Northern Ireland will now play two friendlies across the Easter weekend, facing Wales on Thursday, March 24 before meeting Slovenia at Windsor Park on Monday, March 28. O'Neill said: "This game against an excellent Wales team will be a good test for us as we build towards the Euros. "We are going to have to stop the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Mesut Ozil and those types of players in the finals so facing Gareth Bale is a good benchmark to how we do that as a team."

May as well bench him then. Clearly not up to it.
Besides, the poor guy will probably be booed about 30 mins into his debut if he doesn't score.
Assume we need to buy another striker to keep Washington company on the bench.
Clever!

Fabs. I can agree with you regarding Grant Hall. He is worth his place in the team which is more than can be said for most of those other 13. I have seen him play a number of times and although I would not regard him as outstanding I have yet to see him make a mistake. Personally I would not expect to buy a tin of Baked Beans for 20p and have Heinz shown on the label. Honest! Also I have to accept that QPR FC these days don't do Brand name purchases. I do respect your views on our Transfer strategy even if they are obviously are not mine. Rather than keep repeating my own personal mantra on here which understandably may get on some peoples nerves perhaps I should be E mailing Les Ferdinand instead and put the following Questions to him. 1 Why did you think Chery was better than Hoilett and Luongo better than Faurlin? 2 Why have you signed players that are a lot inferior to Zamora and Barton not to mention Vargas and Isla. 3 Did you think Gobern Gladwin and JET and Tozer would be an improvement on Fer Phillips and Sandro. 4 Is Angella better than Caulker? 5 Did you think that Perch was any better than one or two of our promising youth team defenders who were starting to come through and now have been discarded 6 It seems you thought that Mackie and Konchesky were not yesterdays men and Smithies was better than McCarthy. Why? Obviously the situation changes when a club is relegated from the premiership and to some extent the bed we have made for ourselves over the years we now have to lie in it. Also there is the cloud of FFP....but the bottom line is the bottom line. I am concerned about the Spiral of decline though I am ultra confident we will not get relegated this year. In the end Charlie Austin was not replaced by a Striker from Barnoldswick Utd ...but one from Peterborough United instead. I am uneasy about this signing but could be wrong. Feel free to rub my nose in it if I am mistaken about Washington. I wont mind a bit if he turns out to be a prolific Championship goal scorer for us.

Feel free to rub my nose in it if I am mistaken about Washington. I wont mind a bit if he turns out to be a prolific Championship goal scorer for us. Thanks for your detailed response, it's much appreciated. I know your list of questions is for Les but I'll reply to them if I may. 1 Why did you think Chery was better than Hoilett and Luongo better than Faurlin? At the time we signed Chery, Hoilett was still in the wilderness and hadn't shown any of his recent form so,at that point, I would say Chery was better than Hoilett, As for Luongo, I don't think he was signed to replace Faurlin so maybe not a fair comparison. I think it more likely that he was signed with a view to replacing Sandro and I think that would be a good move.2 Why have you signed players that are a lot inferior to Zamora and Barton not to mention Vargas and Isla. To a point, I'd agree but you have to remember that Vargas and Isla were only on loan and they had expressed their desire to leave before Les took over as DoF. I would have offered Barton & Zamora another year personally.3 Did you think Gobern Gladwin and JET and Tozer would be an improvement on Fer Phillips and Sandro. No, they are not but I don't think they're that7 much worse either.4 Is Angella better than Caulker? Yes, but not by much5 Did you think that Perch was any better than one or two of our promising youth team defenders who were starting to come through and now have been discarded I really don't think they're ready, Furlong was turned inside out as Palace last season. Not sure about "discarded", Isn't Furlong out on loan?6 It seems you thought that Mackie and Konchesky were not yesterdays men and Smithies was better than McCarthy. Why? I think Mackie can add something to the team if he can stay fit. As for Konchesky, I'm not sure what the thinking was there. I'd assumed that Yun would be our starting LB this season. Having said that, I don't think Konchesky's done that badly. As for McCarthy, that's a moot point.' McCarthy had a release clause and chose to activate it. It wasn't Les's choice to get rid of him and replace him with Smithies.

Kerrins, Not that my view is any more correct than anyone else's & obviously we don't agree on some of the players named in your questions, but I thought it would be challenging to try to give my answers! 1) I regarded Chery as a replacment for Fer rather than Hoilett & feel that Luongo is our second most creative passer of the ball (behind Faurlin). I don't think either were to replace the players you mentioned. 2) Barton wouldn't sign a new contract so retaining him was not an option. Zamora may have been worth keeping but I expect Polter to score more in a season than Bobby would. No, Seb is nowhere near as good a player though! 3) Although I don't like Fer, Phillips or Sandro, they are certainly better than the three additions you mentioned. 4) YES. Karl Ready was better than Caulker! 5) I would prefer Harriman or Furlong any day. 6) IMO Smithies is better than Green & McCarthy & should have been playing all season. His record at Huddersfield was far better than McCarthy had with Reading. Just my opinion & not to be treated as fact! Of course, things changed when the club were unsucessful in selling our stars in the summer.

Fabs and Terryb interesting and detailed comment from you both. I expect this topic could be a debate for the rest of the season but meanwhile as I have been probably boring the pants off everybody since August with my adverse views on the subject maybe for now its time for me to play a different record.

Possibly might do better in correct position? Reading Peterboro fans comments some say was poor out of position and played average when in correct position. Others say had a 3 month golden spell apart from that very average. We didnt get the golden period, more of the bronze age
