Flashback - Joins QPR EXCLUSIVE: GOAL ACE AUSTIN SIGNS PUBLISHED 13:09 1st August 2013 by @officialqpr Charlie pens three year deal and will wear number nine shirt ... QUEENS Park Rangers Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of prolific marksman Charlie Austin. The 24 year-old has penned a three year deal at Loftus Road, after Rangers agreed an undisclosed fee with Burnley for the striker’s services. Austin – who will wear the number nine shirt – arrives with an outstanding goalscoring record, having enjoyed goal-laden spells at Burnley and Swindon Town. In his 75 starts for the Clarets, he netted 45 goals in all competitions, whilst his overall career record equates to a strike-rate of better than one goal in every two games. R’s boss Harry Redknapp believes Austin’s fire-power will perfectly complement the attacking options he already has at his disposal, commenting: “Charlie’s an out-and-out goalscorer and we’re delighted to have him here. “He’s scored goals wherever he’s played throughout his career and I’m very confident he’ll take his game to the next level with us. “I’ve got no doubt that if we give him the right service he will score a lot of goals for us. “He’s young, he’s hungry and he’s up for the challenge of helping us get out of this division.” Austin, who could be in line to make his R’s debut against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, expressed his delight at sealing a move to West London, adding: “I’m really pleased to be here. “Harry spoke to me at length about the ambition of the club and the desire to return to the Premier League and that’s where I want to be as well with QPR. “This is a really exciting time for me and I can’t wait to pull on the QPR shirt for the first time. “I’ll come in, give my all and hopefully score the goals that ensure we have a memorable season.” Read more at www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/010813-exclusive-goal-ace-austin-signs-959838.aspx#IM1WjVMx5rzw8ZCL.99Read more: qprreport.proboards.com/thread/36692/charlie-austin-bump-joining-qpr?page=1#ixzz3xPLxLlId

If he goes for 4 Million thats giving him away, surely even with 6 months left can get 6-8 Million. Wolves player just went for double that and never even played in Prem.
As far as im concerned TF,LF , JFH , Ramsey can go too.
Run by clowns, good ol QPR, no wonder so many other teams fans hate us.

Is four million not better than the zero we would get in the summer? Yes, they may receive a better offer in a bidding war, but would Charlie agree to go to Newcastle, West Brom etc?
What I don't understand is how the board have suddenly added some realism!

The BS of Fernandes/Ferdinand Axing Ramsey because we should be challenging for promotion The failure to sell Austin in the Summer if not for 15 million...then 14, 13, 12, 11 whatever The failure to extend Austin's contract after our promotion...

Flashback 6 Years
SOUTHAMPTON OFFICIAL SITE
PUBLISHED 12:00 16th January 2016 Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Charlie Austin on a four-and-a-half-year contract. As soon as Southampton showed an interest that was the one club I wanted to go to" Charlie Austin The striker joins Saints from Queens Park Rangers, for whom he scored 18 goals in the Barclays Premier League last season – a campaign that ended with his first call-up to the senior England squad. 26-year-old Austin, who has netted 130 times since moving into professional football with Swindon Town in 2009, will join up with his new teammates next week. Les Reed, Southampton’s Executive Director of Football, said: “We are very happy to be able to welcome Charlie to the club. “Coming after Wednesday’s morale-boosting home victory, this signing is an indicator of our intent to finish the season strongly and continue the progress we’ve made in the last few years. “Charlie shares that ambition. He has a fantastic goalscoring pedigree, but remains hungry to improve and develop as a footballer – something that convinced him that Southampton is the ideal next step in his career. “Having had a taste of Premier League football and his first call-up to the England squad last season, he is determined to establish himself at the highest level of the game. “Bringing Charlie here is a show of the club’s commitment to its plan for future success through investment in talent with a desire to grow and develop.” Austin added: “I'm delighted to have got it over the line so soon into January. I can't wait to get started now. "As soon as Southampton showed an interest that was the one club I wanted to go to. "You see the progression from when I was playing against Southampton for Swindon. QPR director of football explains why £4m Charlie Austin was sold to Southampton07:55 17 January 2016 Charlie Austin came off the bench to score his eighth goal of the season on Saturday Charlie Austin came off the bench to score his eighth goal of the season on Saturday Les Ferdinand says the decision to sell Charlie Austin as one made ‘in the best financial interests of the club’. Former bricklayer Austin has only been in the professional game since 2009, when his fine form with Wessex League part-timers Poole Town earned a move to Swindon. The striker continued to find the net and moved on to Burnley before then joining QPR, where he became a fans’ favourite with 48 goals in 89 appearances. Austin, who has been out for the past month with a hamstring complaint, has scored 10 goals in 16 appearances this term and leaves Loftus Road with QPR director of football Ferdinand’s best wishes. “It’s no secret that Charlie is out of contract in the summer so this is a decision made in the best financial interests of the club,” he said. “Charlie has had a significant impact on this football club in his time here and we are hugely grateful to him for his contribution during his spell with us. “Whilst we are sorry to lose Charlie, once he expressed an interest in moving to Southampton, we could not stand in his way.” Austin, who was called up by England for the first time at the end of last season, has penned a four-and-a-half-year deal at St Mary’s. “I’m delighted to have got it over the line so soon into January,” he told the club’s official website, www.saintsfc.co.uk. “I can’t wait to get started now. “As soon as Southampton showed an interest, that was the one club I wanted to go to. “You see the progression from when I was playing against Southampton for Swindon. “For me, it was important to come to a club that’s on the up and that’s what I’ve got here.” www.london24.com/sport/football/clubs/qpr/qpr_director_of_football_explains_why_4m_charlie_austin_was_sold_to_southampton_1_4382193

I only meant the realism in accepting four million for Charlie now. Realism wasn't meant to apply to anything else! Perhaps we do now have hope that we can get rid of Green, Fer, Phillips, Sandro etc. Accepting offers for those will test this board!

Very good move for him and I'm happy he's back in the Premier League where he deserves to be.
Congratulations on a good move Charlie and well done Southampton for actually doing what about 10 other Premier League teams are going to regret doing 6 months ago.

Good luck to the boy! He deserves his chance in a better team than we have proved to be, 18 goals in the prem playing for a crap team is some achievement. He's been professional throughout with non of those histrionics football has been accustomed to over the past few years as players try to engineer a move.
I wish him well.

On a positive note, that 4 mill will go half way to buying Dwight Gayle.
I utterly despair...!!!

Agree, dreaful bit of business to not earn anything more than what we paid for him after what he has achieved is ludicrous.
Thanks for everything Charlie, a true pro.
TF, LF, Ramsey, JFH please go too and while your at it take Gobern,Perch,Tozser, Fer and Sandro.
QPR one of the worst run Clubs in the 92.

Isn't there a finance manager who monitors players contracts? What with Green's contract as well we are not learning from our previous year's mistakes. Still 3 points today and all will be forgiven...

Always felt he would end up at Southampton and got impression that's who he was waiting for. Fits in perfectly with his personal life!
Although we had better offers last year they all came from clubs he didn't want to join or an area of the country he didn't want to live and so decided to run his contract down something the club could do nothing about after their ridiculous decision to only give him a 3 year contract. When Charlie joined the club they were in a dilemma as they had been criticised for giving certain players contracts that were far to long and too expensive. QPR did what they have made an art of and once again made a bad business decision.
Although disappointed to see Charlie leave I feel for the club this is the right decision. £4 million is better than nothing and that is what we would have received at the end of the season. Southampton were in the driving seat with this deal and could have possibly got him for less because they knew the player wanted to come and QPR wanted to sell. The club has decided to sell because they believe we have no chance of promotion and so nothing to gain from hanging on to Charlie this could obviously come back and bite them in the arse if we get relegated!

Is it official 4 million?
If theres a 20 % sell on fee and he goes for 20 million next, that would be another 4 million

Few players, managers and coaches have survived the curse of Loftus Road with even a relatively modest reputation untarnished, Charlie Austin has left with his positively enhanced.
He deserves to play for a better club than QPR, thanks and good luck Charlie.

I have no inside info but he was supposed to be talking to foreign clubs and could have signed a pre-contract with anyone outside the UK any day since 1st January. He also had the upper hand on who he would sign for so getting £4m from a team for the rump of his contract was an ok deal. I agree not getting him to extend his contract at the end of year 1 was the big mistake but we've had nearly 50 goals out of him and he's cost us nothing.
What it does show as someone said above, is that we've given up on promotion, 10 games after sacking a manager for under achieving...daft...I really hope that the money is re-invested in players that atleast mean we get some attacking football for the rest of the season.

Good luck to Charlie. Glad he's gone. Now Polter knows he's our striker and doesn't have to look over his shoulder for an injured Charlie.
Hope Charlie does well at Soton.

All our top players eventually get sold off. Phil Parkes, David Seaman, Paul Parker, Andy Sinton, Les Ferdinand, Roy Wegerle, to name a few. Sure many more. Austin single handily got us promoted via playoff game.
A brilliant striker with poacher abilities and superb knowledge of goalmouth and loved to score. He should be great for Southampton.

Le Tiss said on the TV that he was a 'steal'.
Whilst everyone on this board seems to have been 'pro Charlie' hasn't he and his Agent shafted us?
Is he only worth 30% of Jonjo Shelvey?
On the pitch after the Brighton game there he was saying 'I'm here til the end of the season'. PR spin to worry the bosses at QPR?
We will never know the real story as I never believe anything that comes out of QPR.
BUT
Someone seriously screwed up with his contract. That'll be Beard then.
Hopefully at £4 million there are appearances/sell ons/England place rebates back to QPR's coffers.

JFH just said on Bbc London , that 5-6 weeks ago Charlie said he was staying until the summer and we was planning around that. Then yesterday he told the Club he had an oppurtunity to go to Southampton and wanted to go. So the owners did the deal.

He was playing a clever game and in the end it all worked out perfectly for him. He is a steal at £4 million but would have been a bigger steal for nothing. Saw a BBC Sport tweet earlier saying there was a sell on clause and add on's that could add up to £8.5 million!

Are clubs not supposed to bid on a player through the the selling club not his agent? People say fifa are corrupt and underhand. Agents for me are worse, parasites of the gravy train that is football.
