CHAIRMAN'S CALL TO FANS
RANGERS chairman Chris Wright has an important statement for the fans regarding results and club finances.
Mr Wright is extremely concerned about the current situation and stresses that the continued backing of the
supporters is crucial as everyone pulls together for the good of the club.
Mr Wright says:"No one at the club is remotely happy with the situation. These are very difficult times we are going through and we’ve got to come out of it.
"We are constantly working towards improving the team and to move things forward. We are not complacent at all about the situation.
We are totally committed towards making the club successful.
"The problem on the financial side is that we have an extremely high wage structure at the club. We probably do have the highest wage bill outside the Premier League.
It is not something that we can continue with. That doesn’t mean that we will have a mass exodus of players. That would be crazy.
But we have to get some business reality and balance the books. The club has been losing considerable sums of money.
"I will take the responsibility for that. As a fan of QPR, I was desperate to see the club get back to the Premier League at the first available opportunity.
Perhaps we overstretched ourselves. Looking back to the year we were relegated, perhaps we should have held some of our money back and opted for a major rebuilding
programme by doing things slowly. But we didn’t do that and we’re probably suffering for it now. It isn’t easy in the situation we’re in
but we’re all working incredibly hard behind the scenes to make it right.
"The club belongs to the supporters. It will be the fans’ club long after the current players and myself are involved. I am very aware that the supporters
are with Rangers for their whole lives. It’s not my club. I’m just a short term custodian. So if we are in trouble, we need everyone to pull together
in the best interests of Queens Park Rangers. Under difficult circumstances, the fans have been very, very good. So I really applaud them for that."
