WBA just made an approach to us, not Phillips but Sandro until the end of the season. Good to get him off the wage bill until the summer and he would still have 12. months to run after loan.
Don't see what there is to lose by sending him to WBA. Haven't heard anything about a potential sale and if he does well it will raise his value. Also, can't hurt getting his wages off the books. No I agree Corndog, good move if no sale, thats where Diakite should of gone, on loan. 12 months at the Club, no loan, costing us.

No I meant for the 2014/15 Season but that was interesting summation of this past summer The strangest two that Summer Mac were Mutch, selling after 6 months and McCarthy not playing him, then selling him a year later. Thankfully though we did salvage pretty much all our money back on those two, breaking even maybe.

I too really do not get the apparent obsession of some on the subject of trying to get rid of Gobern. Signed as a fringe support player in case the likes of Sandro had left in the summer. Signed for nothing on a (reported) minimal salary - has not worked out or has not had the opportunity to work out as he has not played and therefore not done anything wrong or brought the club down or contributed to a mid table position. Get off his back. We all know the history of Diakite's situation. He has been out on loan so not been a total drain on finances but obviously a succession of coaches think he is not right for the team. What are we supposed to do - keep 11 players and sell the rest? Even then we cannot sell or loan or give a free if nobody wants to buy. All im saying is while we are about to get with FFP and an embargo, we need to be more cautious than ever. Diakite was on the payroll so nothing could be done there. Gobern is a very poor player in my opinion only, so poor huddersfield didnt even want to take him on, most of there fans thought it was laughable when we signed him. If you think Goberns a good player, fine. Personally I would of thought some of our youngsters were even better. Of course it is all opinions and take in the fact you think he was an acceptable buy for that club. Sorry Harr but I have not said Gobern is a good player and in fact have not seen enough of him to judge. I am just curious why there seems to be an obsession with getting rid of him in particular. We signed him for nothing so are not going to get a transfer fee If we loan him out of he goes on a free 1. will it weaken the team or squad? - no given the others we have on board now 2. will it strengthen the team or squad - certainly not 3. will it save the club a little money - yes but as I pointed out above he is on a one year deal on low wages so what we will save is a few months of salary of probably one of the lowest paid professionals in the squad. In the bigger scheme of things and FFP that's like a piss in the ocean.
I do not have the inside info on what FFP embargo of fine we may or not be getting sooner or later but if we are that worried about finances we should have kept the money from Austin, not bought Washington, stuck with Lumley as no 2 to Smithies and should not be looking to bring anyone else even on a free or loan.
The club has bigger issues to solve than Gobern

From WLS:
Good move for all concerned and will hopefully release funds for one of the players on JFH's shopping list to come in.

Sandro is good business, of course rather have sold but WBA may take him in the summer when he will still have one year left.
I guess our biggest worry now is what if we get no takers for Green between now and Tuesday?
We wont want him to play if it means he gets a new deal? So he just doesnt play unless we can loan him to another Championship club until May.

Im certainly obsessed how poor he was and we actually even got him in, even as a squad player Whilst I agree its like a wee in the ocean all these little mistakes add up, like paying Zarate thousands and not even playing him. We probably are spending the Austin money, in making sure we have a few more bodies when the embargo comes. Yes we have bigger issues for sure, making sure signings we buy are up to Championship standard still being one of them though.

From the Express and Star www.expressandstar.com/sport/west-bromwich-albion-fc/2016/01/29/sandro-having-medical-at-albion-as-loan-deal-nears-completion/?Sandro having medical at West BromBrazilian midfielder Sandro is having a medical at Albion today and could feature in tomorrow's FA Cup fourth round clash with Peterborough United. The 26-year-old is joining on loan from Queens Park Rangers until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent deal in the summer. The former Spurs man has been at the Baggies' training ground this morning, but his deal needs to be rubber-stamped by 12 noon if he's going to play against Posh tomorrow. Although the move is nearing its conclusion, Albion head coach Tony Pulis was coy about how far along proceedings were. "We're interested in Sandro but nothing's been done yet so that's ongoing," he said. "Whether we can do a deal or not we'll have to wat and see. "We're working on it if we can get a deal done we'll get a deal done." A product of Brazilian club Internacional, Sandro moved to Spurs for around £8million in 2010. QPR signed him for £10million in 2014, but he hasn't played a single game for them in 2016 and the London team are trying to cut their wage bill. He's been brought in to provide cover in midfield with James Morrison out for two months with a ruptured hamstring and Darren Fletcher a doubt for tomorrow's game with a knee problem.

Sandro going has definitely been on the cards - My opinion is that JFH is only playing people who are part of his longer term plan (unless we have no immediate alternatives) and that's why we have not seen Sandro recently. I would play him ahead of Henry but given his cost he has to go.
Of course there is the small issue of a medical and his knees so we can only hope.
If Green does not go by Tuesday I think it would be a mistake to loan him to a competitor Championship side - even if someone can afford him or least split his cost with us. He is still better than most in the Championship so why strengthen the opposition. He is not a bad no 2 or 3 goalkeeper for us though and apparently can still play 4 more games without activating the clause. So not too much harm in keeping him around in case of emergencies if another clubdoes not come in for him. Plus if he is as professional and dedicated as he has been in the past and as most people (including me) believe him to be, maybe he can pass on some knowledge to the younger keepers we have now. We have been paying players through the nose for the last 5 years but we can see the light at the end of that tunnel now - so no need to panic imo.

Lost count now but half the Belgian league seem to be Chelsea loaned out players

I agree Sandro going is good but my worry would be why is he not starting Chery more if he is looking at players for the longer term plan. Personally if we could free up a little cash and let Rob go on loan to a Championship team I would do it. I cant see us being anywhere near the playoffs at a point a game so its an income coming back in, even if its one of the top six I would do it this season. Things improved over the summer and we need to continue that even further this summer.

We are still after another Striker then as Sharky posted
Wonder if JET will be loaned out.
According to L’Équipe, Championship side QPR have had an approach for Bordeaux’s young striker Enzo Crivelli turned down.
Crivelli, 20, has become an important part of Bordeaux manager Willy Sagnol’s plans in recent months.

We're not going anywhere the rest of the season, so I'd wait until summer now and make do with what we have. Unless its a loan. But even then we're not in with a shout of the playoffs so, realistically, what kind of striker would we be hoping to get anyway?

I think Chery is not playing partly because JFH wants to play with Hoilett and Phillips as 2 wingers and partly because he still needs to improve bits of his play especially defensively and partly because with the 2 wingers we are overloaded for the rest of midfield with Fer Luongo Chery Faurlin and Henry competing for 3 places. Chery does drift in and out of the game but when he is in we have seen what he can do.
Having said that I think both Hoilett and Phillips drift in and out as well so there is not too much difference. Given their pedigrees our two wingers are not exactly ripping defences apart or getting in behind them as much as they should.
I am coming to the conclusion the best bet now is for Phillips to leave late in this window bring in Chery and Washington, dropping Poulter to the bench if we are still playing 1 up front.

Anyone know how much we're getting for a Loan Fee?
I think we shouldnt be signing now...Unless someone we really want. We're not talking promotion. And relegation is highly unlikely. So Save the money. And buy players we REALLY want (that we can afford)

So Save the money. And buy players we REALLY want (that we can afford) Why do so many QPR fans want to keep buying more players all the time? We're loaning out half the players we have as it is, we've got others picking up nice fat wages that haven't seen our bench or stepped foot on a first team bus literally in years and still others can't get a game whether they're fit or not. I expect that if you open up a cupboard in the managers office you'll probably find a player or two come tumbling out of there that we forgotten we even had. The players we buy are usually sh*te anyway and certainly rarely an improvement on who they're replacing. Just. Stop. Buying. More. Players.

West London Sport recently revealed that QPR are looking to offload the 35-year-old goalkeeper because of a clause in his contract that means he would land a new deal at Loftus Road were he to make another five appearances. Since then there has been much speculation about his future, with Liverpool among the clubs linked with him. Crystal Palace expressed some interest, while the Mirror claim Green’s former club West Ham have also done so. The Hammers did make an approach for Green during the summer transfer window but no move materialised. He left Upton Park to join QPR on a Bosman free transfer in the summer of 2012.

Boro better hope they go up, spending another 9 million on Rhodes, spent over 15 million this window? FFP will have a field day on them if they dont. I think the difference here is that Boro have not been a yoyo club like we have been and the FFP rules have changed.
We ran up against FFP the season after we were relegated the first time and came down with a massive locked in wage base. The loss we made the next season which is now under FFP dispute was as much from the locked in costs as it was from spending to go up.
In Boro's case with a bigger stadium and attendances over the last couple of years they are probably on a far better financial standing and even spending 20 or 30 million to get promoted will not result with them having anywhere near as big a loss as we had.
If they do not get promoted they would only face an embargo. But with the change in FFP rules from this season to a rolling 3 year assessment that would not be immediate and they would have the time to get things sorted to avoid even an embargo.
If they do get promoted I suppose they would be in a similar position to ours of last season - that FFP would only hit them with a fine if they are relegated - and the rules on relegated teams are changing as well. Now given the unbelievable amount of TV money they would pick up next year in the PL they would probably still come out with a profit even if they were relegated and hit with a fine. If they stay up for a couple of seasons they will be laughing all the way to the bank (unless they spend silly money like we did)
I think they know exactly where they stand and are prepared to take what is a minimal gamble.
Meanwhile we are in the ridiculous position of having to make a legal challenge to falling foul to a set of rules that have subsequently been changed because they were badly thought out and unworkable. Time will tell.

But for those who now criticise the Club for Green's contract we should remember the last line above. If Green goes now that will be three and a half years on say 40k a week which I think comes to a cost of 7 million. If he stays to the end of the season it will 4 years for 8 million (approximate numbers)
If someone 4 years ago told any PL club that they could sign an England international goalkeeper on a four year contract at a total cost of 8 million, most would say that would be a good deal. The same would be even more the case now when we see current transfer fees and salaries.
If we had paid a 5 million transfer fee for Green and 15k per week salary (total cost 8 million as well) I wonder how many of the negative comments about Green now would still have been posted.

I hope though that we have been able to structure the deal to at least cover all his costs for the rest of the season. Whether that is all in loan fee or part loan fee and partial wage cover is one for the accountants and tax advisors but I hope we are not subsidising other clubs with loans such as Sandro and Caulker.
Worse case scenario now would be if Sandro's knees go and he is sent back to his parent club for the rest of the season - if the loan deal allows it.

Personally I dont have any qualms with what we have paid Rob Green. Been a decent keeper and a model pro. Like Charlie, these guys earn there cash in my eyes, its the suckers that I dont like. Ones that could go on loan but keep refusing it and refusing it, to stew in the background and still pick up the cheque.

I would hope Liverpool are paying the full 100 % for Caulker and WBA at least 75 %. These things tend to come out at some stage through the season but nothing on either player seen to date.
