Comment
Luiz Felipe Scolari made six changes from the side that started at Blackburn on Sunday, as Mineiro made his first Chelsea start, while Didier Drogba was involved from the off for the first time in six weeks after injury at CFR Cluj.
Wayne Bridge captained Chelsea for the first time tonight, while Mineiro made a first start in deep-lying midfield role. Ivanovic and Alex were a new central defensive pairing.
This was the first meeting between the Blues and Burnley since April 1983, when our opponents were 3-0 winners at Turf Moor.
Didier Drogba scored a fine goal, his first of the season, before being substituted.
South Americans Juliano Belletti and Franco Di Santo both limped out of the action, meaning Chelsea had to finish with 10 men. Steven Caldwell's red card meant Burnley finished in the same way.
It was our first penalty shootout since the memorable, yet disappointing Champions League Final against Manchester United back in May.
We have not won a penalty shootout since 1998, the League Cup quarter-final against Ipswich.
